Just imagine Street Fighter, but with no buttons, no special moves, no characters, and no story. Don’t feel sorry for Karate Champ though, it has a lot going for it, you just have to put yourself in a retro time warp".
As we celebrate Street Fighter II's 25th birthday, we look back at the fighting games that paved the way.
In episode four of our Resurrection series we go back, way back, to a time when gaming was about riding your bike to the nearest arcade with pockets full of coins. Entering the arcade one day and seeing something not seen before; a game with no buttons but four joysticks. Four joysticks and no buttons? Welcome to the world of Karate Champ.
I loved this game, with the two joysticks. The NES version was terrible though.
NZGamer: Owned a Sega MegaDrive back in the day? You might remember Streets of Rage, a side-scrolling eighties beat-em-up that managed to overcome its rather banal gameplay with a great soundtrack and a decent co-op mode. In what is surely a financially driven move (read: quick buck) Sega have decided to port their minor classic onto the iPhone.
