To be honest, I was expecting Dante's to sell a few more than The 40th Day...

Carlton Banks5101d ago

I thought it sold 2 million O_o

Redrum0595101d ago

MassEffect2 wouldv sold 3 million minimum if it went multiplat, the audience for that great rpg just isn't on the 360 fanbase. EA has no choice bit to bring it over to the PS3 if they want sells. With all the ME2 ads on tv and they still managed to sell very little (on 2 platforms) just proves that 360 fans are more familiar with the fps, halo, and gears. EA needs this game on PS3 if they want sales to shoot to the roof.

DaTruth5101d ago

VGChartz at its best! 2 million first week; Yeah right!

Anyone gonna tell me they're anything but random guesses!

ravinash5101d ago (Edited 5101d ago )

how many copies of dragon age was sold.
Same company, similar game.
The main differences are that it was a new IP and it was on the PS3 as well.
I'm sure if EA and Bioware looked at the numbers and saw that proportionately ME2 would get this many sales because dragon age sale had this many percent of the total sales to PS3.
If it were high enough then that would only push them further into the idea of creating a PS3 version.

The game is already on the Unreal engine, so it would be just a matter of converting it, fine tuning it for the PS3 and BluRay and testing it. So they have already done most of the investment when the created the game.

trikster405101d ago

Dragon Age sold over 3 million on all platforms, but it did come out during Christmas. Not sure ME2 would have hit 3 millions just by adding the PS3 user base, but it definitely would have sold at least 750k more units.

lord_of_balrogs5100d ago (Edited 5100d ago )

Redrum, so if ME2 was on the PS3 it would of sold 1.4 million more? The RPG audience is more on the 360 then the PS3. Dragon Age sold twice as much more on the 360 so I doubt ME2 would of sold more on the PS3 over the 360.

It is a damn shame that a game that scores so high at Metacritic does only 1.6 Million across two consoles. (talking about Mass Effect 2)

I guess quality doesn't sell games anymore. This is why game developers are still creating such garbage and getting away with billions of dollars in sells.

Minimox165101d ago

did you know a game called "Call of Duty MW 2"?

FURY__UNLEASHED5100d ago (Edited 5100d ago )

Uncharted 2 has the same metascore and it's only on ONE console (PS3) but literally sold double the amount of units as ME2. So much for "360 exclusives ALWAYS sell more than PS3 exclusives."

Uncharted 2 sold well over 3 million.
Mass Effect 2 sold 1.6 million.

Both are great games, I'm just keeping the 360 fanboys in line by providing logic that busts their stupid myths like the one about 360 exclusives selling more than PS3 exclusives.

SuperM5101d ago

bullsh1t. If mass effect wasnt so good it wouldnt sell as much as it did. Look at dante's inferno. Game was only decent and it hasnt even sold a million. If it was high quality it would have sold alot more.

Lou-Cipher5101d ago

Im not trying to say that 1.6 isn't alot, but for a game that is sitting at 96 on Metacritic (one of the highest rated games this gen)it should be well above that.

Compare Mass Effect 2(96@Meta) to Final Fatasy 13 (83@Meta)and you will see just how much quality gets rewarded compared to advertising.

FF13 sold 3 times as much as Mass Effect 2 did with a significantly smaller score. you can say the same about alot of games.

Game developers have relized that they dont need to make great games anymore to make money, they only need to make mediocre games with big advertisements to make money. It sucks, but it is so very true.

f4nb0i5101d ago (Edited 5101d ago )

Doesnt the article say 1.6 Million sales on ****PC****? So way over that for the total sales including 360?

-edit -> source seems to suggest total :-O

raztad5101d ago

@Luo-Cipher

Bro you are overlooking a little detail: FFXIII is on PS3 along with the xbox while ME is PC/xbox only.

EA is a multiplat company, and heavily support the PS platform, I dont see it allowing such a high quality franchise to underperform (sales-wise) restricting it to the PC/xbox realm.

IdleLeeSiuLung5101d ago

in addition to what raztad said, FF is an established franchise with a huge following spanning over a decade. You can't compare a newly established franchise like ME to that.

In fact, I would be wondering what is going on with FF if it didn't sell more.

I'm done with EA...own ME1...BUT...did not buy ME2...no matter how amazing it looks...No more EA titles for me...I hope they lose everything...Pay for Demo's...trying to stop used games...Greedy scum...Why should EA get any part of a re-sale...they already made their money...this will hurt them in the long run...I HOPE...

Ubi-soft is very close to losing my money too...I know, 1 person, but I refuse to hand over my name, address, date of berth, male female, where I live, postal code, how often I play, how many games I own, how many brand this and that...NOW, they want people to pay for demo's...I bought SC C and you have to join U-play, an ubi-soft invasion of privacy group, to unlock weapons, an entire multi-player mode and other " freebies"...Here where I live, they can't ask you those questions on a job interview...Done with these clowns...

Jerk1205101d ago

Hey, yeah, let's try to ruin an amazing company like BioWare.

kneon5101d ago

Actually charging for online for used games makes some sense from a business perspective. When they work out the budget for a game they have to factor in the lifetime cost of keeping the game servers running for online play. For most games the gamer will buy the game and play it for a few weeks or months and then move on, only occasionally going back online. But with used games that stretches out the online usage. They didn't get any extra for the used game but they have to provide more online service than they would have if it had not been re-sold.

The only question for me is whether the amount they are charging is fair for the value they provide the customer.

A better solution would be to reduce the initial price of the game and charge for online separately. But I know what will happen then, they would drop the price $5 and charge $10 for online to make up the revenue lost to all those who didn't pay for online.

brazilianbumpincher5101d ago

That the majortity of the 360 user base are fps fans, look at the highest selling games and there all shooters, people on this thread are acting all shocked I'm confused

Christopher5101d ago (Edited 5101d ago )

I'm surprised because it's a great game and is available on PC and 360. I expected an easy 3 million for ME2 in its first quarter, but it seems to be if it isn't a shooter or a keynote title (FF, GoW, Halo), it won't do the 3m+ numbers.

Jack Klugman5101d ago (Edited 5101d ago )

the highest selling game on the ps3 is a shooter. enough with that. are you expecting halo numbers? what kind of numbers do rpgs usually pull in on any console?? people on this thread are acting all shocked like that is a bad number for an rpg.

Christopher5101d ago (Edited 5101d ago )

It's not about highest selling or game type, ME2 is a great game and deserves better sales, IMHO. That's all. Problem is, just being a great game with a AAA budget won't cut it nowadays. Especially to see it sell only half a million higher than the fairly lackluster Army of Two: The 40th Day.

Consoldtobots5101d ago

thats because they thought it would outsell every PS3 exclusive this year.

the NPD result showing 800k from the 360 was acurrate with the PC version picking up the remainder. so, 1.6 million sold with a shipped 2 million is damn good. Still the game hasn't broke a million on consoles so.

DaTruth5101d ago (Edited 5101d ago )

Notice the difference between PS3 owners and 360 owners!

PS3 owners: Why did this awesome game only sell this much!

360 owners: Lolz, only 1.6 million! This game is teh flopshow! Thought this game was suppose to sell teh ten million day one. All teh hype!

And they hate PS3 fanboys?

Syronicus5100d ago

No wonder why there are so many rumors of ME2 comming to PS3... Hardly any xboxfans supported the game.

i espected mass effect 2 sell more true say i haven't even got it i'm jjust waiting for another price drop on it ^_^

Lucreto5101d ago

I held off buying it as well just in case the rumours of a PS3 version is true.

If nothing comes out of E3 or Gamescom I will buy it then.

dangert125101d ago

think ms will try hard to keep it better of getting it for the 360 if you got the 1st one anway cause the 1st one deofo ain't going on ps3

Lucreto5101d ago

If Ninja Gaiden 1 and 2 got a port even though they were published by MS. I expect EA could find a way to do the same.

vasilisk5101d ago (Edited 5101d ago )

ms will not try hard to keep it.

http://www.ps3center.net//n...

890K is far from a system seller, so it won't hurt them as much sales-wise, mostly their image.
It will definitely come to the ps3

@Lucreto

The publisher of a certain game on a certain platform is not binding to which platforms the game will appear. MS could publish the Xbox version and EA can publish the PS3 version. It all comes down to IP rights and those belong to EA. Remember the orange box? EA published the PS3 version. It is common for an IP to have different publishers across different platforms

Lucreto5101d ago (Edited 5101d ago )

Thats true. I remember Grandia in the PS1 era had 3 different published for the game and Demon Souls was published by Atlas but Namco is publishing it in Europe.

On a unrelated note. FF XIII outsold ME2. Some people are not going to like that.

On VGchartz (Yes I know Lolvgchartz)

FF XIII sold 3.56 million in the US and EU in 8 weeks and according to the story here ME 2 sold 1.6 million in the two regions in 10 weeks.

That being said they could have cause up in the 7 weeks since.

Edit: I just say the link in the post above so I can revise the figures with the US numbers and vgchartz EU sales.

FF XIII sold 2.6 million not 3.56 million I have above.

VG chartz have overstated th US numbers by 230,000 and the PS3 numbers by 170,000.

Solidus187-SCMilk5101d ago (Edited 5101d ago )

with out the possibility to do the import feature with your ME1 character.

Those are pretty good sales for Me2, NOt crazy or anything but pretty good.

I misread it and thought it said Mass Effect did 1.6M on PC.

"WHAT!" I thought.

Its OK, I read it properly now.

piroh5101d ago (Edited 5101d ago )

"Mass Effect 2 has sold 1.6 million units on the PC (including digital downloads) and Xbox 360"
i was expecting mass effect sold more, according to vgchartz all the sales was for xbox version, there really are pirates, they need port the game to ps3 next time

(i think 1.59 million for xbox and 10 000 for pc version)

cmrbe5101d ago

did this number by it self on the PS3 in the same timeframe and yet x360 fans were calling it a flop lol

Nike5100d ago

LittleBigPlanet sold 3 million copies in about 1 year, 8 months (these figures were announced just recently).

Mass Effect 2 sold 1.6 million copies in less than 5 months (figures above for all to see).

You seem to think it sold that much in the same time frame. Do you have proof to back up your words?

HolyOrangeCows5101d ago

-_-

VGChartz doesn't keep up with PC sales because most of it is digital and those stiffs refuse to reveal their sales numbers.

Theonik5101d ago

Makes sense tbh. You wouldn't like it if you realised how much money DD makes in comparison to conventional media by eliminating distribution costs. Hence how steam can afford such great discounts all the time.

Spiderman5101d ago (Edited 5101d ago )

10,000 for PC only ? Sure lol

Considering battlefied bad company 2 has like 2 million unique PC players i guarentee ME2 sold at least 500,000 on PC and 1mill+ on 360.

piroh5101d ago (Edited 5101d ago )

cmrbe - if we are comparing first Mass effect to LittleBigPlanet, then ME sold 2.2 million, LBP sold 3.36 million

HolyOrangeCows - those sales from EA are combined PC (retail+digital) and xbox so PC sold almost nothing i think

Spiderman - it's combined and according to VGchartz.com almost all the sales are for xbox version
http://www.vgchartz.com/gam...

Spiderman5101d ago

VG Chartz dont track PC game sales..

vasilisk5101d ago

couldn't be more wrong...
http://www.ps3center.net//n...

890K for X360
710K left for the PC version.

champ215101d ago

Bought the PC version along with 3 other friends.

4Sh0w5101d ago (Edited 5101d ago )

Its confirmed by NPD that ME2 sold 890k in the US on 360 by the end of March 31st.= http://www.gamasutra.com/vi...

lol, and I highly doubt it didn't sell a decent amount in the rest of the world for Q1....in fact it was the best seller in the UK when it launched for 2 weeks in a row until Bioshock2 was released.
http://www.joystiq.com/2010...

That leaves all of Europe, and other territories besides Japan(not released in Japan) in which vg chartz listed ME2 sales at approxmitely 440k at the end of March= http://www.vgchartz.com/gam... so that would put 360 sales for ME2 at 1.3mil at the end of Q1 worldwide, so if EA's is saying its 1.6mil ww for both 360 and PC then thats less than 300k for PC sales total.

piroh5101d ago

this is what i meant
EA next time bring the game to PS3, you can be only profitable

Solidus187-SCMilk5101d ago (Edited 5101d ago )

that number for 360 doesn't include the rest of the world. So your PC number is off.

But 1.6 million total so far is pretty good.

EDit-- how cany people disagree with that guy up there when they know they are wrong.

So far ME2 has sole 890K on 360 in north America alone. The other 800K is made up of PC sales and some 360 sales from europe.

the last thing any playstation avatar goomba should be talking about is game sales.. not coming to the ps3 you can bet on that..

The 7 Best Western RPGs: Immersive Adventures

RPGs are often huge, sprawling endeavours. With limited playtime, we have to choose wisely, so here's the best western RPGs available today.

SimpleSlave24d ago

"I started playing games yesterday" the List... Meh!

How about a few RPGs that deserve some love instead?
1 - Alpha Protocol - Now on GOG
2 - else Heart.Break()
3 - Shadowrun Trilogy
4 - Wasteland 2
5 - UnderRail
6 - Tyranny
7 - Torment: Tides of Numenera

And for a bonus game that flew under the radar:
8 - Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden

DustMan24d ago

Loved Alpha Protocol in all it's glorious jank. Great game.

SimpleSlave23d ago (Edited 23d ago )

Not only glorious jank, but the idea that the story can completely change depending on what you do, or say, or side with, makes it one of the most forward thinking games ever. The amount of story permutation is the equivalent of a Hitman level but in Story Form. And it wasn't just that the story changed, no, it was that you met completely new characters, or missed them, depending on your choices. Made Mass Effect feel static in comparison.

Alpha Protocol was absolutely glorious, indeed. And it was, and still is, more Next Gen than most anything out there these days. In this regard at least.

Pity.

EA Hopes to Use Generative AI to Drive Monetization and Make Development 30% More Efficient

EA is already dying a painful death..

peppeaccardo53d ago

i have a better idea .. why the whole exec team doesn't get replaced by chat bots ?

just_looken53d ago

Though i agree the ai thing is already in other forms of media there have been ai translations/scripts/voice over and even full ai commercials aired on tv. Ubisoft has created a ai game creator story/vo/music except the building of the game

The new unreal engine has auto terrain creation tools

In the world of greed in which it is winning without any major blow back ai is our future.

everyone want's biden dead on the mic or a criminal instead of a woman and now we are getting ai everything because no one will stop watching/playing ai created media.

GamerRN53d ago

Maybe they should just focus on making good games?

Just a thought...

Kiryu199252d ago

Exactly EA are just pure evil. When they are beating Bank of America to be voted the worst company to work for that’s saying a lot

Good thing I don’t buy their games day one and wait for deep deep sale years after launch (the select few games I am actually interested in)

Gaming is making so much money yet the greed of these companies is never ending

CEO’s and people on board making millions yet cutting jobs to those who are actually making the products

Knightofelemia53d ago (Edited 53d ago )

EA is still a shady shitty company even with or without the help of Skynet. All they will use AI for is new ways to milk loot boxes and come up with the same sports title with a different year on the label. They are one company I truly do hate with a passion. They single handedly ruined some great franchise with their death touch. ME, Dead Space, Alice Returns, Dante's Inferno.

EA layoffs followed by 'Generative AI to Drive Monetization'

I knew it. Wonder what AI salary looks like? Nothing.

ChasterMies53d ago

I having a feeling that most of the layoffs in the industry are based on the idea that AI will do the same job for less.

DarXyde52d ago

Very likely, yes.

Made worse by the fact that the execs aren't changing their compensations.

My deepest fear at this point is that we are now in the capitalism endgame.

At this point, we really should just burn AI to the ground. Executives cannot be trusted to do the right thing.
How are those people expected to support families if everything gets automated?

Barlos53d ago (Edited 53d ago )

And take away creativity, and people's jobs as we've been seeing. Got it.

No thanks. I want my games created by people, not AI.

CobraKai53d ago

Exactly. If or when games start becoming more AI than people, im done with gaming. AI and companies like EA can suck donkey d***k.

just_looken53d ago

Though i agree remember this is no ps3/360 era were we got up to 3 games in one generation from on developer like gears/halo/bioware/sony/ms

The people today are pro esg/sweet baby for the most part AAA gaming is imploding right now.

We should be stepping back re evaluate everything as a whole this year xmen 97 written/directed by a woman that is nuts and its also being made by a group reshaping bodies to be less sexual like wtf. A dam famous cartoon from the 90's is being rebuilt with millions spent to be worse in everyway.

Gaming/movies/tv shows made today are worse than what we had 7years ago ai won't change this but that ai is also being made by these groups so either way we are screwed.
https://www.youtube.com/wat...

Eonjay52d ago

Don't be of afraid of women. Sexy characters in games and movies still exist. Got my Stellar Blade on preorder!!! Everything all the time doesn't need to be sexual...that's stupid, childish and dull.

Chocoburger53d ago (Edited 53d ago )

EA doesn't want to lose their title of worst gaming company ever, always trying their best to remain the champs!
What's sad is that they have so much potential to be a decent publisher.

SSX Tricky / SSX 3
Def Jam Vendetta / Fight for New York
NBA Street
NFL Steet
Mirror's Edge
Bad Company
Burnout 3 / 4 / 5

Remember when EA used to be awesome? It's all over with now. Unpolished, if not out-right broken games these days. Endless monetization and gambling in their sports games, and let's not forget wasting hours of your life trying to unlock characters or equipment using "surprise boxes!"
