well ill be darned, i thought ps3 exclusives dont sell
/sarc

Forbidden_Darkness5110d ago

It also appears that FF13 on the PS3 has sold almost as much as 360s exclusive Mass Effect 2 which is no small feat at all

Solidus187-SCMilk5110d ago

Me2 is only the second game in the series. Also there is a PC version too.

HolyOrangeCows5109d ago

At first, I was like, what?
But then I realized they meant for one platform.

Awesome game. Well deserved.
And this just goes to show you the direction that the PS3 is taking.

GoW 3 is a great game and i'm enjoying it alot! This is the first GoW game i've played, so i'm a little pissed that I didn't play the old ones. I encourage anyone with a Ps3 to get it! Even if you don't have one and are considering getting one, grab this game with it!

Some may think it's because of the gameplay change up, but like i've said in the past, FF games have been selling fewer and fewer units with each new release! Good sales for both console versions, but I hope some of the haters now realize why they went multiplat. I don't expect you to agree with it, just understand.

blodulv5110d ago

You my friend, need to get to work on that and grab the GOW collection... seriously, these games never get old and revisiting them shows just how awesome those old PS2 days were.

I'm actually replaying them as we speak, and am currently at the final boss battle on GOW 1 on "God mode". I might only have stubbs for fingers left by the next time I post here, ha.

Chubear5110d ago (Edited 5110d ago )

Heavy Rain already sold 1mill o.O Oh, they're talking NA numbers... yeah, uhmmm, looking for hits with seemingly controversial heading.. and it works.

mastiffchild5110d ago

FF13 was panned, though, and the ME series, esp ME2 has got NOTHING but praise-I'm truly amazed the ME2 didn't sell as well as GOW3 in the states. Honestly, when you think that it would have outsold the first two GOW games on PS3 I think this is a little surprising.

KingME5109d ago

Okay first off, 2010 isn't even half over. Then to say "Non-nintendo" 1 million seller.

Really, aren't we reaching a bit here? Now, if it was the only million sell of 2010 thus far I could understand the shallow bragging, but it's not. This title/article is simply pathetic. I mean come on guys, really?

Besides, Final Fantasy, and Bad Company 2 are 1 million plus sellers they were released in 2010.

I guess I don't get it.

Pumbli5109d ago (Edited 5109d ago )

Considering Nintendo has sold about twice as many consoles as Sony I can easily understand why Sony would want to brag about it's game being in 3rd place in sales behind 2 Wii games.

Edit: These are US sales btw.

WhittO5109d ago (Edited 5109d ago )

I thought Heavy Rain has sold over 1 million?

Edit: ooo its US only.

Woo go GOW haha, the best experience since Uncharted 2 for me.

4Sh0w5109d ago (Edited 5109d ago )

These sales numbers are only as of the end of March 2010, in other words its possible ME2 is at 1 mil by the end of April. So when the headline states "God of War 3 the Only Non-Nintendo Million Seller of 2010" (according to NPD) its not entirely accurate because the data the site used does not include April 2010 sales data, which of course will no doubt have GoW3 beyond 1.1m with its March+April sales and of course might show ME2 at 1m+ if it can achieve at least achieve 1.1k for April. It's very likely that could be the case Vgchartz currently has ME2 at 1.25m and GoW3 at 1.39m for US sales.

GOW3 is a great game and one of Sony's biggest IP's that many were waiting for, so I expected it to sell very well, compared to a wrpg which although sells well on 360 isn't its strength, actually if anything I'd expect a wider margin, but then again I take that back, since these are only 1 month sales for GoW3 and 360 benefits from the larger install base too. Still I think ME2 has done pretty well on the 360, its at about 1.72m WW and on track to easily outsell ME1's 2.2mil sold.

On individual platforms. FFXIII and Battlefield 2 are above one million when adding PS3 and 360 sales.

Nike5110d ago (Edited 5110d ago )

Uh, Mass Effect 2 anyone?

http://www.gamasutra.com/vi...

"BioWare's Mass Effect 2 has shipped 2 million units, says publisher Electronic Arts, which claims the 'first blockbuster of 2010' in its announcement today."

Forbidden_Darkness5110d ago

Yes, it shipped 2 million games out to stores, that does not mean it sold 2 million...

Nike5110d ago

You're absolutely right. I'm sure all of those copies are just lying around in stores, even till now, just gathering dust. /s

MrMiyagi5110d ago (Edited 5110d ago )

uh my bad just re-read

N4BmpS5109d ago (Edited 5109d ago )

Yeah Idk y Forbidden darkness got so many disagrees since it's true that shipped numbers don't mean it sold that many. Essentially that means that the companies had reason(probably do to pre-orders) to ship that 2 million to stores.

Hank Hill5110d ago (Edited 5110d ago )

Those numbers are SHIPPED and they also count the PC version with the Xbox version.

Solidus187-SCMilk5110d ago (Edited 5110d ago )

but didnt it sell close to 600K in january NPD.

Edit-- It says that ME2 has sold 890,000 copies. Thats not including the PC sales or the rest of the world so that pretty good.

This is only NPD tho, so im sure there are ALOT of games that have sold over a million WW that are not nintendo games.

I got my copies of Mass Effect 2 and God of War 3 so im happy.

Icyhot5110d ago

Mass Effect 2 Sold 1.7 million on the 360 according to VGChartZ...

And this article only relates to NA NPD results not worldwide results.

facelike5110d ago

You are right, so if GoW did 1.1m in the US, and Mass Effect did 890,000 in the US, and ME did 1.7 WW, then GoW probably did approx 2 mil WW.

Sounds right to me.

Makes me wonder, if they did release Mass Effect on the PS3 along side the 360, how much more sales would Bioware have had.

KingME5109d ago (Edited 5109d ago )

"Makes me wonder, if they did release Mass Effect on the PS3 along side the 360, how much more sales would Bioware have had."

I agree, the same can be said about releasing GOW3 on the 360 uh, or was your mind even able to consider that?

Also, to be honest with you. As much as GOW3 was hyped I am totally surprised that it has not sold 4-5 million yet. Especially with the shear number of PS3 that are out there. GOW is only owned by 7% of PS3 owners according to the number of units sold vs the number of PS3s sold.

BeaArthur5110d ago

What everyone else said, shipped and sold are two totally different things. I would have thought between the PC and the 360 that ME2 would have sold a million by now.

TreMillz5109d ago (Edited 5109d ago )

He 100% right you know. 2 million shipped is as it says, "2 million shipped" big difference between shipped and sold. And still they mean on a specific platform, Mass Effect 2 sold those numbers on 360 and PC together, imagine 360 alone. And the worst thing is some of you agree with the original poster. But I'm guessing its just 360 fanboys. And yes, the other copies are on store shelves lying around, its not like they're in a bag being purcharsed are they?

The Meerkat5110d ago

I'm surprised by Mass Effect 2 not passing 1 million.
Just goes to prove that great games don't always get great sales.

Icyhot5110d ago

RPGs aren't really popular on the 360. Also, ME1 although being critically acclaimed, never really broke any sales record, so it isn't much of a shocker that ME2 didn't burn the charts....

GOW3 on the other hand was bound to sale well judging by the popularity of the previous games and hype associated. Also judging that PS3 has a smaller install base in NA compared to the 360, it's a great achievement.

ALFAxD_CENTAURO5109d ago

Mass Effect is not even RPG, is a Shooter with RPG elements.

Solidus187-SCMilk5110d ago

Also that is 890,000 copies of only the 360 version, in only the NPD area.

So if you include PC sales and the sales world wide, then It probably has pretty good sales.

The Meerkat5110d ago

Damn NPD again.

Thanks.

I thought it should have sold better than 890,000 and now I see that it has.

raztad5110d ago

@Meerkat

I'm not that surprised it didnt but I agree with: "Just goes to prove that great games don't always get great sales." That's what some people means by sales=/=quality.

Hank Hill5110d ago (Edited 5110d ago )

Looks like the PS3 has the highest selling HD exclusive this year.

EDIT: LOL, you guys disagree with facts?

Zerodin5110d ago

But in the end they're still not the king!

Forbidden_Darkness5110d ago

There almost in second place, even after being a year behind

cygnuszero5110d ago

Lol, ALMOST in 2nd place? Think again, they are still 7 million behind the 360. Look at the monthly NPD sales, do some basic math, and you'll quickly realize it will take years for them to catch up to the 360.

Really tough to argue with numbers.

Perkel5110d ago

@ Look at the monthly NPD sales, do some basic math, and you'll quickly realize it will take years for them to catch up to the 360.

yeah6 as if npd is WW sales..

dude Eu and Japan are pounding5 X360 so if is on tie in us th6en overall is in bad position

Oner5109d ago

And I wonder how many of those "7 Million" are actually WORKING consoles....if you wilfully ignore this information then you cannot hold a proper conversation about the topic, it limits your scope of the whole view and that is seriously immature. It is a fact that there are millions of broken 360's that could not be fixed thus forcing repurchases and ultimately making it a lot closer than people like you want to admit.
