Gamezebo: NanoStar Siege Review

When I think of deep strategy experiences, the word Facebook doesn't really come to mind. It's not that the two wouldn't be a great fit – patience-heavy gameplay and multiplayer experiences are hallmarks of both – it's just that we've never really seen the two combined with much success. Digital Chocolate is looking to change all that with NanoStar Siege, a surprisingly deep strategy game that's easy enough to learn and nearly impossible to stop playing.

FPS Games from the 90s That Need a Remake

With the release and successful sales of Goldeneye 007 on the Wii, this opens the doors for other 90s fps games to receive remakes. Gamers are already getting the return of Duke Nukem. But what about games like Jedi Knight, Red Rampage, Hexen, and Tribes? All these games could all use remakes and would look great on PS3 and 360. Nothing would be more satisfying then a remake of Jedi Knight that lets gamers slice Jar-Jar to bits in multiplayer.

Jedi Knight was an awesome SW game, I would love a remake.

NecrumSlavery4912d ago

I love the series. Jedi Knight II: Outcast is my favorite Star Wars game next to KOTOR. I was really disappointed with Jedia Academy and would love to see a Jedi Knight IV utilizing a solid FPS and TPS Lightsaber/Force mode.

Human Analog4912d ago

I 100% agree. I love Jedi Knight II: Outcast.

HolyOrangeCows4912d ago

Okay, this one is from 2001, but I'd still like to see it rebuilt using more modern shooting mechanics; Red Faction. That game was awesome.

Tangostarr4912d ago

That's still one of my favorite FPS games! The new ones aren't bad but I miss the style of the first game.

Just make and put out battlefront 3 already.

RedDead4912d ago

yes! At least a good sequel. I saw the a bunch of Bodycount footage and I have to say, I am not at all impressed.

MrChow6664912d ago (Edited 4912d ago )

black was released 2006

DeadlyFire4911d ago

Footage was taken from an early build. Way to early in my opinion. Not at all a good way to present a game. I am certain Bodycount will look alot better when they are ready to really showcase it.

Ducky4912d ago (Edited 4912d ago )

SystemShock barely meets the qualifications... right?
(Although Doom3 and DeadSpace are close to footing that bill)
Oh well, atleast Deus Ex is getting a remake. Its sad how the original's depth is hardly matched by current games.

Meh, I don't mind if they get remade, but I miss the faster-paced FPSes. The one where every room was an opportunity to run in guns a-blazing followed by a treasure hunt where you search for medpacks and ammo.

Damn you regenerating health systems!

soundslike4912d ago

god I hate regenerating health in single player modes. It makes the developers so god damn lazy and unoriginal.

Rich16314912d ago

As unrealistic as regenerating health is, I think it works well in single player but I hate it in online modes. It is really cheap there. But in single player, I find it annoying hunting for health packs.

Raf1k14912d ago

I don't know about you guys but with health packs I found that when I was low on health I'd play better due to not wanting to die. Regenerating health just lets you take cover whenever you need to and makes even hard modes easier than they should be.

soundslike4912d ago

@Raf1k1

precisely

The tension from fear of that one shot puts you in the zone, but regenerating health condenses tension into annoying 10 second bursts that make gameplay SUPER repetitive.

Jedi Knight is probably one of my favorite games of all time.

1. You actually had to make smart use of your force powers
-combining force speed and charged jumps to reach secret areas or solve puzzles. Compare this to modern gameplay "press A to trigger scripted event" that fails to really deliver the sense of using the force/magic/agility/power/etc
2. Smart level design.
-makes modern FPS singleplayer look like a JOKE. So much depth in simple ways, gave a sense of freedom while maintaining momentum
3. Progression
-You don't start off overpowered, and even at the end its still challenging.
4. and of course characters and story that don't completely suck.

Anslyn4912d ago

This.

I still remember the feeling of frantic recklessness that charging through The Falling Ship level gave me. When you break it down, it really wasn't all that complicated, but the careful execution and attention to the -right- details in its design still makes me giddy and nostalgic.

kube004912d ago

I forgot about System Shock! Horror and fps games combined, that would be a good remake.
