Ninety-Nine Nights II is actually as fun as it looks

GamesRadar: There was a time, about 10 years ago, when Dynasty Warriors was new and exciting. Fast-forward to the present, however, and the game has changed so little over its dozens of iterations that the very sight of it – or even any game that looks like it – is enough to send cynical gamers' eyes rolling back in their sockets. That, along with knowledge of its underwhelming 2006 predecessor, is why we were tempted to ignore the shit out of Ninety-Nine Nights II (aka N3II) when publisher Konami rolled it out during last night's press event.

Hmmm ok. It looks decidedly average to me. I don't have any expectations for it but could be good in co-op.

van-essa5141d ago

I'm hoping the game turns out well. From what I've seen so far, it's pretty much a day one purchase for me.

dangert125141d ago

is the only hack and slash that i kept on playing don't know why there wearnt much to the first in stories or quest but it was still fun except when you had a big combo going and a lil troll would poke n kill u lol

Immortal3215140d ago

I'm no graphics whore, I just call them what I see them.

I'm the difference like lust and love.

gaffyh5140d ago

I played the Dynasty Warriors demo once and realised that I hate those types of games. Constantly hacking through hundreds of enemies, moving to another area, and doing the same just isn't very exciting, and most of the time there is no story holding it together.

Please don't hype this game, as it will probably turn out to be crap and then the fanboys will have a field day.

As a Dynasty Warriors fan and someone who loved the original I cannot wait for this game.

It's like top 5 most anticipated for me.

kancerkid5140d ago

@gaffyh

If you don't care about the game or didn't like it, why are you even commenting on an article about it.

Just because you didn't like it doesn't mean there is not anyone who doesn't like it. The world doesn't revolve around you.

Yeah, that's what they all say.

A nun may look pretty sexy but get her under the covers and you understand why she's a nun in the first place...

NO Replay Value! lol

siyrobbo5141d ago

if you can get a nun in the sack, you've got some serious pulling power

005141d ago

Of course, it's Austin Powers after all.

blizzard_cool5141d ago

I'm gonna be honest here, it doesn't impress me the least :/

I was expecting something a little bit better.

Top 10 Sequels Nobody Asked For

COGconnected: Some sequels come as a result of the artists behind it truly believing an IP deserves a second chance, could be improved with just a few small tweaks, or is indeed good enough to warrant a sequel. These ones do not.

Loads of people asked for a sequel to Knack, including myself.

The first game was good fun, clearly rushed for launch, but a good launch title for PS4.

rainslacker2026d ago

Yeah, I know a lot of people who liked the game, and said they wouldn't mind a sequel which improved on the original.

SuperSonic912026d ago

Knack 2 is so much fun for couch co-op.

sprinterboy2026d ago

Great for co/op keeping the kids entertained

Platformgamer2026d ago

you stole the words from my mouth.
knack is so underrated

NotanotherReboot2026d ago

So how come "loads of people" didn't buy the game?

Teflon022025d ago

Half a milli is pretty fine for that game actually

rainslacker2025d ago

Loads of people did. Loads of people also played it on PS+.

Although, I don't really know what the actual numerical value is of a load, unless it's the kind of load that we usually see used to criticize Sony or its games.

Akarogg 2026d ago

It sold about as well as Doom on Switch

The great dunk spoke, and knack 2 was goty before it even dropped. Spaghetti. Meatballs. Puerto Rico.

Amplitude2026d ago

Knack 2 and Kane and Lynch 2 were so good
Cool article though aha mostly all true.

Still waiting for Kanye and Lynch 3 to solve that insane cliffhanger ending

PhantomS422026d ago

I will always want more Naughty Bear. Those games are like bad SyFy movies, just so awful but so fun.

Retroman2026d ago (Edited 2026d ago )

Knack 1-2 was Fantastic...,.... hope Knack 3 being developed.
Can't wait for Ratchet and clank 2
Ps4

King_Noctis2026d ago

I wonder what would happen if Knack was multiplatform. Would people defend it that much.

rainslacker2025d ago (Edited 2025d ago )

I think people probably wouldn't even pay attention to it at all. There is no denying that exclusives do get a bit of a bump in notoriety. Same could be said for any number of mid-tier game which is multi-plat. It doesn't really get that much attention outside of an announcement, maybe an occasional screen shot or marketing blurb, and then some reviews on release. Quite a few mid-tier titles that are exclusive...especially those from 1st party, get a lot more attention.

That being said, the first one was pretty fun for a launch title. The second one was really good, although still had some room to do things better.

Number of on screen characters no longer a focus

Once upon a time it was all about polygons and numbers of enemies on screen at once. Now things have shifted.

Hmm, yes, I remember Kameo being a showpiece for Xbox 360 at launch with its dazzling number of on-screen enemies, game was pretty good as well.

It seems developers are more concerned with cutting back the scope and scale in favour of linear romps that afford them more resources to make a "prettier" game.

ATi_Elite4116d ago

Ha depends on what platform you play on!

Total War Rome 2 I expect 100K Romans spilling blood on Carthage.

Planetside 2 is 2000 Players and vehicles all over the place and it's done really well

Eve Online just had like 3000 ships battling it out in a Huge war while 19,000 ships at almost the same time waged war in another part of the Eve Galaxy

Number of on screen characters is very important in MMO's and RTS games.

MysticStrummer4116d ago

Any game portraying big battles online or off should have lots of onscreen characters. The ideal zombie game would also.

Chard4116d ago (Edited 4116d ago )

Heavenly Sword was really impressive with regard to the number of enemies on screen.
Also the lead up to the final battle in Skyward Sword, and Star Wars Rogue Squadron III Rebel Strike with all those TIE fighters flying around at once.
I'd like to see continued emphasis on it, as not that many games have truly achieved large scale battle.

delboy4116d ago

Lol the real real focus in game development now days is how much more game content you can cut out from final product, and offer it as dlc.
