Walmart takes next step in test-marketing Christian video games

Christian video and computer games may soon be appearing on Walmart shelves.

-Alpha5132d ago (Edited 5132d ago )

Hurray?

The only religious game I'd play is God of War or Assassin's Creed. These Christian games try too hard to educate, though I'd love to see some bad ass game based around the religion instead (like Assassin's Creed).

BeaArthur5132d ago

Sweet, Christian video games are my favorite genre.

Score5132d ago (Edited 5132d ago )

Christian games would set a new standard for violence...I don't think Kratos could stomach some of that imagery

Can I finally get my copy of Wii Pray?

SactoGamer5132d ago

Sure, but it'll probably require that silly finger sensor thingy to play it.

LinuxGuru5132d ago

The two comments above me are golden.

Bubbles!

Although, I wouldn't mind a game that was set during the days of the Crusades...that would be pretty intense to play as a Crusader in the King's guard or something.

AhemZasan5132d ago

The fact that the Left Behind series is considered to be "Christian" is one of the biggest reasons I totally understand people hating religion.

For some reason I don't remember reading about Jesus slaughtering "non-believers" in any actual Christian texts.

Score5132d ago

People "hate" religion because it presents here-say and folklore as if it were fact.....it is also a breeding ground for ignorance and war/violence.

AhemZasan5132d ago

Religion is just an easy way to control the ignorant. The same here-say and folklore has been spread throughout history inside and outside of religious involvement. The same can be said of rape, torture, murder and all other forms of mayhem. The fact is, the problem with religion is that humans are involved.

Score5132d ago (Edited 5132d ago )

"The fact is, the problem with religion is that humans are involved."
I do not disagree

Edit:
The biggest problem with religion is that people don't stop to think "does this make ANY sense"

AhemZasan5132d ago

How, exactly, does that differ from pretty much any widely accepted view in any society from any era of human history? Religion is included, but it's not the sole bane of human existence like so many portray it to be.

Score5132d ago (Edited 5132d ago )

What you are referring to is ignorance in general. We are all ignorant at something, at some point....The bible is a set of guidelines on how to be ignorant and remain so.

Handhelds_FTW5132d ago

is like blaming the pen or pencil as the source of spelling errors.

And its an absurd assumption in my opinion, that without religion, over night we would have world piece.

Human beings are evil, those that don't see it are the first ones to call themselves "good people". Oh how I would like to display there thoughts on a big cinema screen to the masses. Then try to hear there justifications for calling themselves "good people".

Even murderers, thieves, rapist etc. are quick to tell that they're not the worst of society or what this world has to offer.

It's my opinion is the world should blame people as the source of the world's problems, and try to stop shifting the blame on the claims of what they believe. Because what a person truly believes can't be proven by the mere words of there mouth.

Religion will always be an escape goat to those who do evil things, and unlike the world I'm not buying the pitch line that "it's there religion's fault". However, I say "no its the fault of there actions".

LeonSKennedy4Life5132d ago

Please research something before you knock it.

I'm not kidding.

Maybe God is a fairytale to most of you, but I can assure you he's not. Please do yourself a favor and research. Don't just listen to the ignorance around you. That's what I did for years.

AhemZasan5132d ago

Your statement would hold more factual weight if directed at those who use the Bible to forward their own misguided agendas rather than the actual collection of literature itself. The Bible, much like religion, is all too often blamed for the shortcomings of those who have zero actual understanding of their original intent (i.e. zealots like Lahaye and Robertson).

Mr_Bun5132d ago

You found proof of god? Nice! Seeing as you are the only person in the world with proof, would you be so kind as to share it so that we can end this "silly" debate?

Darkstorn5131d ago

@5.6-
I don't think human beings are inherently 'evil.' I think humans just seek short-term rewards too readily. Many people join religions to be a part of a society that would otherwise shun them, without thinking about the consequences of adopting a strict doctrine.

Are You Going to be Left Behind on May 21st?

Seeing as how tomorrow, May 21st, is supposed to be the Rapture and all the supposed "believers" are going to mysteriously disappear and make their way to heaven, many people are wondering "what about those that get left behind? Well, back in 2006, a rather controversial PC game was released that addressed the issue of those not included in the rapture. That game was aptly titled Left Behind.

I'll see everyone on the 22nd ;)

thorstein4724d ago

My rapture party is starting in about an hour. Thought I would look in to see what the new games of the apocalypse are going to be like.

Hasn't happened yet.

tablav4724d ago (Edited 4724d ago )

You're all fools! The end is coming, you'll see!!! You're all gonna...

Wait, what do you mean it's the 22nd now? Riiiight then. Guess I probably shouldn't have spend all my money and quit my job.

Oh well....such is life!

honestpizza4725d ago

I'm going to wear my shittiest clothes tomorrow.

Jack-H4724d ago

LOL!! yeah it's probably not the best day to break out that 3-piece suit.

honestpizza4724d ago

Or you could've put on that Armani suit and filled your pants at some point so that the person lucky enough to stumble upon the pile of clothes got a nice surprise.

yoge4725d ago

It says in the bible that no man will know when the end is coming.

blackburn104725d ago

Exactly. One man says it and suddenly it's the truth. Plus he has said it before and was wrong. Anyone noticed that no religious group even bothered to agree or disagree with him? That is to show what a joke he is.

gaden_malak4724d ago

It says in the bible that no man will know when the end is coming.

Bible also said there was a giant flood and a giant boat.

multipayer4724d ago

hey,you've played Brink...

thorstein4724d ago

So did Gilgamesh.... whooops, don't tell the fundies that their story was ripped from an earlier much more interesting version.

xTruthx4724d ago (Edited 4724d ago )

^^^^^^^ Oh :O, someone who thinks they know something because they heard it from someone else without doing any real research.

Below: Lol I think you haven't even be near a bible

Aceluffy4724d ago

The Bible also said that gay people, people that cheat and have sex before getting married, people that have sex with animals have to be killed.
Or is it...."put to death" does that have the same meaning ?

I'm all for that, but killing animals ?

No, forget it, the bible is retarded anyway

Hellsvacancy4724d ago

^^^^Like totally retarded

MidnytRain4724d ago

yoge, you nailed it.

I don't know how so many of these believers trust one moron that's been wrong many times before.

He's just another snake oil salesman posing as a religious zealot.

Anyone with a brain could have picked up a Bible and found the verse that yoge refers to.

GodofSackboy4724d ago

The bible was also written 400 years after Jesus' death by a bunch of Romans. Its a load of crap.

I wish this world could just forget religion and live happily without this God bs...

But each to his own. Beleive that stuff if you want

NYC_Gamer4724d ago

100% agree, religion has done nothing but divide people and brought along so much death in the process

seinfan4724d ago

I guess the Rylands papyrus and critical new testament scholarship are part of a conspiracy. But don't mind me, I'll let you get back to reading Dan Brown's fiction.

xstation794724d ago

I would love to know how you came about this information about romans writing the bible. If you guys want to put all your faith into scientist having all the right answers, you go right ahead. They are always disagreeing with each other and changing their minds. They claim they know whats happening 4 billion years across the universe, yet can't make up their minds on global warming

MidnytRain4724d ago

@NYC_Gamer

The Bible actually warns against forcing religion on people. Humankind causes its own strife when we blow things out of proportion and/or misinterpret things.

yea too bad the bible is also full of shit

edit: to xstation - you say "put all your faith into scientist having all the right answers" NO- not true, scientists dont have all the answers and i dont have all my faith in them. it doesnt mean i should believe Fairy Tell-esk nonsense that is written in a book written by a 19 year old. (they didnt live that long back then, he was probably 19 or younger)

DantheMan814724d ago

Making fun of other peoples religion and saying the bible is full of shit is crossing the line. You may not believe what others do, but atleast show some respect. I'm off to find another gaming news site that isn't made up of 12 year olds with their dumbass comments.

MidnytRain4724d ago

The Bible contains wisdom and answers to problems we still face today. Even an atheist could benefit from reading some of it. The book of Proverbs is the best example.

We should all sing while we wait. I will start it off

"Some things in life are bad
They can really make you mad
Other things just make you swear and curse.
When you're chewing on life's gristle
Don't grumble, give a whistle
And this'll help things turn out for the best...
And...always look on the bright side of life..."

Yes, because me making fun of people debating theism on a video game website means I hate free speech. Excellent deduction, holmes.

I liked Darksiders too. xP

Software_Lover5172d ago

A good game is a good game. If you dont want to buy the Christian themed game...............then dont buy it. That is why there are different genres of games for different people.

Darkstorn5172d ago

I'm a nonbeliever, but I think religion in games is fine, especially if it's brought up in a secular, academic manner (Bioware does it nicely, as does Irrational Games).
And I also support those mindlessly pro-God games; let the religious idealogues have their own ways to entertain themselves.

BannedForNineYears5172d ago

I couldn't help but think of a GTA in Jesus form. xD
That sounds so fun.
Especially with a karma system.
Anyway >_>
I think it'd be tight to have some Christian games, wouldn't bother me.
Moar gamez!

Editorial: Video Games Are Satanic, And That's Okay

In an article that tried to play to the fears of the general public, The Bulletin's Susan Brinkmann pointed to how some (read: "one") feel that video games are developing an anti-religion message.

Rather than try to discredit Brinkmann like some others have, Binge Gamer Dot Net's James Walker takes her to task and briefly examines religion in games before slamming the gaaming industry for being overly apologetic whenever a group gets offended by a particular game.
