Offset is the one that really pushes the boat out, almost certainly the sort of game that would require waiting for another generation of hardware even beyond GTX4 series

No, because the auther said "that will CRUSH your current system", not "push your current system to the limit". Those games are being simultaneously dev'd for 360/PS3, and coming out soon, so the PC versions will be fine on current rigs.

The same could be said about Crysis 2, which really makes this article pointless. Project Offset is really the only game on that list that might have merit in his article.

BF3 is Frostbite 2.0, DX11 in its full glory.

Offset, it looks amazing, wish it would get a release, something tells me its just going to be a consumer larrabee promotion whenever that is, first gen larrabee was canned for gamers.

I'm pretty sure BF3 will be a pc exclusive, so expect a more advanced engine than BC2 since consoles won't have to be taken into account.

Hate to say it dude, but karan above me is right.
A $500 PC can do everything the ps3 does, and much much more.

A $500 PC can
- do everything on the internet
- Run every application under the sun, except mac.
- play games as well, but probably better than any console
- record TV for no extra money
- play online for free

The only thing consoles can do is to play their platform specific exclusives. For everything else, a $500 PC wins.

I am not saying consoles are bad.
However, in 2010, we have to admit that the ps3 hardware is 5 years old. We can buy that hardware, or better, at the PC shop, for much less.

That's just the truth, there, but don't let it worry you.It doesn't make the 360 or the ps3 bad by any means.

Well we need better looking better games to push the hardware. What will Nvidia and Ati do if there is no progresss in Software. Selling us more and more powerful hardware wont work without the software to give us a reason.

I already got a backlog of "Games to play" when I get my new hardware up and ready. I only intend to play these games at the very best possible.

Of course, until that time comes. I'll be hitting up my PS3, 360, and PSP respectively along with other hobbies outside of gaming. I'm anticipating another 8800GT from Nvidia when they get their boots on the ground with 480GTX.

The only thing those games will crush is my iPad. My current comp will cruise through them. My issue with PC gaming right now isn't the hardware requirements, its that the so called "nextgen" games looks a lot like the last gen. I can barely tell the differences between Crysis and Crysis 2.

Hell if it weren't for the consoles limited RAM and inability to consistently display high res textures, my PS3 and Killzone 2 would top the visuals in most of those games.

Microsoft and Sony already sold the consoles at losses.

256-512mb was pretty big 4years back, anything more would have only added more losses no one woud have liked to pay 700-800usd for a console. Sure RAM is cheap today even a 100usd GPU maybe found with 1gb of ram.

One of the reasons why consoles cant do 1080 in all their games is because of the RAM issues. The framebuffer is just too small. Also the Gpus are weak too handle Hi res textures and AA at such resolutions, which are a joke for even mid ranged PCs of today.

Hence RAM alone isnt the culprit here for true 1080p gaming consoles would have needed better GPUs too.

An example of RAM holding back GPUs would be getting a single 7800gtx with 256mb RAM benchmarking it with any game at 1080p with 2x-4x aa, for sure the 256mb ram will hold it back, add in a second 7800gtx for a SLI setup. You doubled the GPU power there however the 256MB ram will hold the setup back framerates wont improve much at all.

More GPU muscle would help. But RAM is clearly an issue in every game I've seen, everything from Meta Gear Solid 4 to Killzone 2 would benefit greatly if only the PS3 packed more RAM. Just look at the high res Snake running around in that low res world and you can tell where the devs blew their texture budget.

I'm not asking for true 1080p @ 60 FPS with 8X AA here. All I want is some visual consistency similar to PC games.

I expect the new consoles to have AT LEAST 16 processors(to make sure it doubles i7), 4 gfx(this is too much, only 3), and 8 gb of ram.

could you list the parts for the 7500usd pc? back in 2006? id love to see one at that price.

I built one that cost me a 1000usd when ps3 was 600usd. To date that rig i made puts the PS3 to shame on every multiplat and their isnt a PS3 exclusive either that looks better then what that rig can still do.

I'm not worried about Crysis 2 as it is nothing but a console port on steroids when it hits the PC.

Stalker 2 will require an upgrade if you don't already have one as the Stalker series has the best graphics all around. Watch out for Arma II Operation Arrowhead for great graphics.

Forged by Chaos uses the Cryengine 2 so automatically it's in the running. Doom 4 is another to push graphics. Dead Space 2 maybe.

Sometime around 2020 Half Life 3 will blow your minds. LOL

I recently got High res texture mods for Witcher(1.5gig in total), imo its a different game after the mods. Hence that makes a huge difference.

I am not following.It was only implied that the shift in setting could be as a result of the game being developed on the console. The fact is that in-door and urban setting do, indeed, have better FPS in the original Crysis compared to areas of trees and vegetation. :)

Two of the games Crysis 2 and BattleField 3 will be avalible on consoles as well, and the people making crysis 2 are using the PS3 as the lead design. The other 2 games will come and go with out anybody really noticing. Everyone needs to face facts Game Developers make there games for console gamers because we are the ones driving the industry, we are the ones pushing innovation, and we are the ones that buy games on a regular basis.

The number one game being played on PC right now is Farmville, what's that tell u.
PC's have the potential to have alot more power than say a PS3 or 360, but the average person has a middle of the road pc and those are not as good as either home console for games.

PC games sales cannot be counted, because most of it are digital sales which are not released. No you are right not many pc games has won GOTY, i can't really defend that one, other than saying pc gamers and console gamers play very different kind of games.
Yes, farmville is the leader, with about 70 million players. World of warcraft, warcraf III and counter strike are being played more online than any console game, only Halo 3 are close here.
Yes not everyone can have those good graphics, and that is the problem, people buy overpriced pc, instead of a getting a decent pc to a fair price.

All in all, i do not say PC is a better gaming experience, i just say that if you invest enough it has far better graphics, and that there are still a lot of pc players.

Anybody saying the PC version of Crysis 2 is gimped are stupid lets get to the facts right

Crytek Frankfurt Headquarters and Main studio are making the PC version
Crytek UK (formerly Free Radical) are making the PS3 and 360

No version of the game will be ported to either platform
Also Crytek have said they will try and get everything they can out of the PS3 and 360 with CryEngine 3 and also make the PC version even more stunning but improve performance

Intel released Project Offset already, I know they wanted to release it with Larrabee but that failed for the time being
