The PS3 Does Less Than It Did

If you haven't heard by now, a new PS3 Firmware (v3.21) Update will be released on April 1, 2010. With it comes nothing new as in added features. What this update will do though is disable a feature, the "Install Other OS" feature that was available on the PS3 systems prior to the current slimmer models.

With this Update, it might be a good time for Sony to drop the tag line "IT ONLY DOES EVERYTHING" because over the years they have removed a few features from the PS3 that some people care about.

I do believe those Ads show a PS3 slim which never had other OS support to begin with.

The majority never used it anyway so I think most of the controversy is coming from fanboys.

Sony are removing sparkles next another key features EVERY game console needs (but only the PS3 has) and NO ONE uses and very few care about.

LET'S ALL MAKE A BIG FUSS.

Sure the option is nice but what would you rather. PSN and your account being hacked with the possibility of hacking your PS3 or loose other OS a feature near no one uses on a regular basis... SINCE.

To install other os you need a computer, you can install linux on the PC to.

I wouldn't be surprised if people created this much fuss if Sony decided to remove the voice changer feature. xD

Poor Sony, they're damned if they do and damned if they don't.

If they didn't do anything regarding the piracy issue then they'd be risking the loss of millions of dollars, but because they've decided to remove any risk of that happening (thus allowing them to continue to fund AAA titles and keep the PSN free) they're STILL being burned alive.

It cracks me up how literally people take that slogan.

Pretty much everything Sony removed was due to a cost cutting measure, with the only exception probably being the Other OS feature.

If people were buying PS3's in it's early lifecycle at the rate that it's been selling for the last 1 and a half-2 years, Sony probably wouldn't have had to take away stuff like: Backwards Compatibility, 2 USB ports, Flash Card Readers etc...

Sony probably would've LOVED to keep the mentioned features in the PS3, but getting the PS3's price down and reducing already high production costs was more important for the PS3's future on the market...hell, even after removing features Sony is still taking a slight hit on PS3 sales to date.

I'm just glad I have a launch 60gig with everything included from the start. I never had any intentions of using the Other OS feature, so that's not a big deal to me.
