Square Enix Exploring Final Fantasy IX On PSN

Square-Enix are sure getting a lot of use out of Twitter, as yet again, questions that have been on fans minds are getting some answers via the official Square-Enix Members account.

This time the topic of Final Fantasy IX came up.

Square Enix would be foolish to not explore all of the PSOne classics for PSN. I swear just about every title would take over the top 10 PSN if so.

Bring Final Fantasy Origins, Xenogears and Vagrant Story to the US PSN for fuksake! They'd make millions easy if they'd finally get their heads out of their asses long enough to do it.

least favorite ff's, bad character design, forgettable story and characters, horrible implementation of the job system, with all that being said, really good gameplay, the magic/weapon/ability system was really fun and rewarding, combat was solid. And the chocobo Minigame was really good. Oh and it had a really good soundtrack. The only character worth mentioning from 9 is Vivi.

To each his own i guess, but how can it have a bad job system if there wasnt one? each character was good at something and was stuck at being good at that something. End game Vivi won't be hitting physically for 9999 because he wasn't meant to.

This is where i think 9 shines, there wasn't a case of everyone being nearly identical end game . Even in FF6, although everyone can learn just about everything as far s magic goes, they all had different skill sets which made them worth using, unlike 7 and 8

FFIX is my favorite out of the PS1 FF games. I enjoyed the medieval setting, and the story was pretty charming. I would buy it again in a heartbeat.

If they put this and Chrono Cross up on PSN I can finally retire my PSOne game disks.

I'll be sad, because I've held onto them, RE 2, MGS, Soul Reaver, FF VII and VIII for years. Occasionally popping them out for a romp of nostalgia. But I will be infinitely happy that I will be able to have them all on my PSP.

You should really pick it up and play it again. May want to start from the beginning else you'll have forgotten stuff. It's definitely my favourite out of the ones I've played (7,8,9,10,10-2).

I only recently finished FF8; I must say these games are pretty timeless.

.. I beat FFIX a while ago... but the end of the 2nd or 3rd disc is scratched beyond repair. I barely managed to trick the game into skipping the cutscene that it was stuck on to let me onto the next disc, but it was pretty much luck. That’s mainly what keeps me from playing it again.. otherwise, I think it’s my 2nd favorite FF.

Well I think it's inevitable. Seeing as VII and VIII were released on the Playstation Network. I sure hope so. Most underrated FF game by far.

Thats the FF I play less than any other, so when they add it for dl on PSN I would have the opportunity to spent some time with it :)
Some things I remember is that I didn't like the limits most of them was not worth it at least in the way FFVII & VIII was (Omnislash,Lionheart etc.. huge dmg) also only Garnet and her sister can use summon spells and the summons was not especially worth it also as I remember (at least most of them), but what I truly like was that the summons for the 1st time on an FF game was part of the story every1 remember FMV with Odin,Bahamut,Alexander the FMV was the most spectacular thing the ppl back then at 1999 have seen, I still remember the Coca Cola TV spots with the game on JPN I remember it like now ;P also nice thing about the game was the various skills you can learn from each item you equip I like it that :) I am the type of guy that prefer anime-style-character-design so, I am against ppl who say that it was more childish and FFVIII is better etc.. So that's one more thing I like about the game the design of characters/towns.
After FFIX they must release Xenogears & Legend of Dragoon this 2 games is must have for any JRPG fan I still w8 to see that..

While I like 7-9 about equal (with Tactics being my favorite ps1 FF, and FF6 being my favorite overall), I liked that the limits weren't overdone in FF9. Omnislash and Lionheart were both stupid in how powerful they were, and made all but very specific fights a complete joke (Ruby/Emerald Weapon in 7, although they didn't require the skill by any means, and Omni Weapon in 8).

Out of every Final Fantasy game I own (1, 2, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13), Final Fantasy IX was the most memorable one I played, and had one of the best scores I've ever heard in Final Fantasy.

next to FF tactics and FF6 ( my two fav of the series ) this one was my fav, loved almost everything about it, the story was pretty good, had one of the most memorable endings of FF games on ps1 and up.

Only thing i didnt like was the last summon monster, Ark.
Pretty useless and very long animation, even without the boost on and it never did over 9999 damage, Useless when you could just do something else that was just as strong end game. It being Dark elemental didnt help it either

As for IX, great Final Fantasy and great send off to the Playstation era before...well, let's just say I'm not a big fan of recent Final Fantasies.
