GameShard: Command & Conquer 4 Review

GameShard has just reviewed Command & Conquer 4: Tiberium Twilight:

"It's hard not to come away from C&C4 without a feeling of bitter disappointment. Perhaps it's because, as a C&C veteran, the change of focus feels so alien and unwelcome to me, as it must to many fans. But I suspect its really because the mechanics of C&C4 feel uneven and broken, and whilst C&C was never a game of intricate strategies it really feels like EA have utterly missed the point with this one. The denoument of the Tiberium saga is a sorry one, robbed of the charm, flair, and impact that it should have had."

10 Potentially Great Games That Were Dead On Arrival

Every era is recognised as much for its failures as its successes, from the ones which deliver on their promises perfectly, to the likes of Ride to Hell: Retribution. The sad thing about video games is that the vast majority of such let-downs are the disappointing kind. Even when it’s so dire the developers might as well be mocking your very existence, you can realise how they might have succeeded. Put in enough hours or look far enough into the behind the scenes work, and you can just about see the great game developers were trying to bring to life, even in the absolute worst of games. The shovelware tie-in for Batman Begins might have been dreck of the worst kind but you could at least see the beginnings of ideas which would make it into Arkham Asylum.

You might have heard his work on CW’s Supernatural. His best work was in Warhawk as gave its vibrant atmosphere that suit it’s military theme. They may only get appreciation from a small group of gamers, but their importance is imperative. They can save a game, make a great game epic or leave good game feeling undone. While I have never personally listened to soundtracks on their own, I know the soundtracks of my favorite games very well and often hear it it my sleep or throughout the day. It's similar to the nostalgic feeling that songs conjure up years later. If I hear a track I spent countless hours of my life listening to, I am immediately transported back to that time.

Some games have good music but others i can care less for.

It really depends. Much of it is just there to enhance the scene, slow for sad, fast for excitment, whatever, and you never really get to hear it. But the truly memorable songs really do something for a game. The Halo theme is very recognizable, and the song that's playing as you go into into Mexico in RDR works wonderfully.
