Game Informer: Resonance of Fate Review

Overall, Resonance of Fate may appeal to the JRPG connoisseur who is looking for an interesting and challenging new take on combat. Others most likely will be thrown off by the silliness, steep learning curve, required grinding, and other pains – especially when there are so many recent well-rounded RPGs out there.

*Looks at the score*

Good lord! Though one score this low certainly won't make me turn my eyes away from this. I suppose a rental first will be necessary, but overall I suppose I'll still buy it.

So far I'm enjoying it, but the review does bring up some good points like the dungeon and battle environments. The battle environments do look the same. It's a little dull seeing the same thing, but they do change it up with the bunker, barrel, enemy placements and whatnot.

I wish there were save points in dungeons because I'm afraid of having to redo the entire dungeon due to the boss killing me. The first boss defeated me, and I had to redo the dungeon again. You are given the option to redo the boss fight, but I didn't have enough money to redo the boss battle. There is a suspend option, so I'm guessing that's where you save. Haven't tried it out yet.

As for as combat goes, it's pretty fun. There are many attacks and approaches you can take. The game is difficult though, and it compels you to strategize. Once you get the hang of it, it shouldn't be a problem. I was having a hard time with the dungeon in chapter 2 until I found the trick on beating those battles. I do think many will be turned off by the difficulty.

The thing I disagree with the review is the voice-acting; it's very good and Nolan North does a fantastic job. Zephyr's voice is the only one I hate.

Anyways, I just finished chapter 2 with all the side quests done, and my total playtime is at 4 hours and 30 minutes. The story hasn't taken off - it's not interesting at all. Though there has been some funny moments. Here's hoping something good happens. The gameplay has been top-notch though.

I'm pleased you can also customize your weapons and clothes very early in the game. Customizing is pretty straightforward.

It's a solid 8 so far for me. Game Informer's main target is casual gamers, so I think the score is appropriate.

Edit: Didn't realized I typed so much.

Hmm interesting analysis Homicide. Okay so far I may get this game in the weeks before Super Street Fighter IV and Monster Hunter Tri...

Sigh was hoping it would be higher. However I'm still planning on playing this game.

Scores cannot stop me from buying this game.

"Especially when there are so many recent well-rounded RPGs out there."

Really? I'd love to know where such well-rounded RPGs are hiding, because only a handful of next-gen (Japanese) RPGs are worth buying. Resonance of Fate is one of the better ones, tbh.

8 Underrated JRPG Games That You Can Play in 2021

From Xfire: "The golden era of JRPGs has long since passed, with more traditional RPGs having planted themselves firmly under the spotlight for the better part of the past two decades. However, while there's not been as many JRPG games released in recent years, there's still enough of them being released that results in certain titles slipping under the proverbial radar."

The only game I don’t own and never heard of is Fell Seal , I’ll look into it

NecrumOddBoy1177d ago

Highly recommended if you like FF Tactics. I believe it was Colin Moriarty's (Last Stand Media) GOTY last year.

Most of these are the weak story jrpgs which is why its an easy pass for myself. I don't have love to turn based or tactics battles systems but I enjoy the other aspects of jrpgs. The most important aspect to me is the story. I have put up with playing horrible battle systems and mini games that should never exist to enjoy the lengthy and amazing stories these games have. For some reason around the PS3 days they seemed to think, who cares about story just worry about battle system and crafting. So if those are the things you're looking for then this list is for you.

You must not have been playing RPGs for almost 30 years.

I’ve been trying to get back into playing JRPGs lately. With the recent release of Persona 5 Strikers, I finally decided to start playing Royal. I don’t know if I can make the time for just any JRPG though, and Persona games are always an experience and a half.

I just want a remaster of Infinite Undiscovery on Xbox Scarlett and PS5.

Father__Merrin1657d ago

Will never ever happen it sold like pants. But was an excellent jrpg imo

ScoreBunnie1657d ago

Indeed it was, it was better game that Resonance and Remnant imo. Square has struggled to make a AAA game of that caliber since. The IP needs to be sold, then again I can say that of any square franchise that isn't Romance Saga, Final Fantasy, or Dragon Quest.
