VGC: Bethesda Announces New RPG: Hunted -- Preview Inside

Today Bethesda has announced they are publishing a brand new RPG for the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 called Hunted: The Demon's Forge. VGChartz had the privilege of sitting down with the developers for an extensive first look at the game at GDC last week. Read below for a first look at this interesting new cooperative based RPG.

Great to see Bethesda still branching out more. They are quickly becoming one of my favorite publishers.

Do you think that not having a local multiplayer option is a big misstep for a game centered around coop or not really?

I'm disappointed by the lack of local, but there are so many games that don't include it these days (Lookin at you KZ2).

I dont think lack of local is as big a deal as it used to be, most people have the internet these days, and even if a friend an I want to play locally, we just hook up to whomever's internet connection we're at, at the time.

Guess it's a pain if you have no internet.

That's not the issue fishy .
It's one thing to not feature lan for games with only the usual mp modes .

But actual coop ? Come on it screams LAN play .

When you have people around (say for a fighting game , football or us football game , or racers ) , it's a shame to have a coop game laying on the shelves you'd only have access to once everyone is home .

I'm disappointed that more games don't have local co-op, but I can completely see why it's missing from games that involve fighting in peculiar environments, many mobs at once, and maintaining a set third-person camera angle. Combine that with running two instances of the same environment running off of one machine along with all the AI/Physics/Lighting duplication.

can't wait for a TES5, the last one i modded to hell, it has such a huge mods community. but you gotta admit they're not a bad publisher, this game looks promising if backed by enough funds and resources.

Bethesda is only publishing it, they aren't developing it

The Demon’s Forge™, a third-person co-op fantasy action game. Hunted is being developed at inXile Entertainment for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, and PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system and Games for Windows.

inXile Entertainment was founded in 2002 by industry veteran Brian Fargo. During his distinguished tenure in the video game business, Fargo has been behind some of the greatest fantasy game franchises of all time including The Bard’s Tale®, Baldur’s Gate®, and Fallout®. Hunted’s development is being overseen by Fargo while Michael “Maxx” Kaufman serves as the game’s Director. Previously, Kaufman served as Art Director on such titles as Kingpin™: Life of Crime™, Redneck Rampage™ and the award-winning Return to Castle Wolfenstein® at Gray Matter.

I'm aware, however this is Bethesda's game. They own the IP. inExile are just the developers. I have edited that to be clear though (I wasn't trying to be misleading in any way there).

I'm not going to get my hopes up too much. Let's not forget, they did publish both WET and Rogue Warrior. As a developer they are great, as a publisher they are hit and miss.

I wasn't saying you were being misleading. I was just reading others comments on it and a number of people seemed to think Bethesda was developing too. As Spunnups so aptly pointed out, what Bethesda develops and what Bethesda publishes can vary wildly in quality. I think as a publishing company, Bethesda is just getting started and their early titles might not be top tier games.

Looks cool, but I'm was never much into the Diablo/Gauntlet style of RPG. Sounds like it might be more like those.

i feel the opposite ... bethesda's own stuff is a gigantic yawn from me , while brink and hunted actually seems interesting (not to mention ID software)

I completely agree. Whilst I loved Morrowind, I got bored of Oblivion very quickly and was hugely let down by Fallout 3.

Brian Fargo, however, is a legend. I can't wait to see what he cooks up this generation, seeing as HEI$T was cancelled.

I really hope its not the same oblivion game with different characters and settings. Kinda like Fallout 3, but I liked that game. It just felt old.
