BlazBlue Portable Review - PlayStation LifeStyle

PSLS writes:

BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger was one of the best 2D fighters to hit current generation consoles last year. The game is created by the much-acclaimed developers of the Guilty Gear series, Arc System Works. Has the PSP adaptation of Arc System Works' stunning high definition 2D fighting game replicated the elements which made BlazBlue one of the best fighters on the market?

Blazblue Deciphered: History of the World

GameXplain Says: "The Blazblue series is not like most fighting games. Where Tekken, Street Fighter, and Mortal Kombat are all based around fighting tournaments in order to bring their menagerie of fighters together, Blazblue tells a wholly different story. It is a complex tale filled with many foreign terms and a web of interpersonal relationships between the fighters, there for those who want to become immersed in this crazy world. For the gamers who just want a solid fighting system and the ability to challenge other people online, Blazblue has that. There may not be as many characters as Super Street Fighter IV, but none of them play alike. Fighting enthusiasts can spend hours trying to master each one, but it's the story that gives Blazblue a truly unique flavor for many. Even during combat the dialog between characters gives a sense of relationships, story, and even past events. The original game had a tale that even casual fighters could get into though its labyrinthine natur...

I need this cuz the game made no sense to me

Kalowest4726d ago

The story in BB is not hard to follow.

Redempteur4726d ago

it isn't ..
but the world itself goes way over the casual fighter mecanics.

Kalowest4726d ago

The story in BB is awesome, and comical (kaka calls Litchi "Boobie Lady", and picks on Noel Vermillion for being flat-chested.)

Looking forward to what they do with CS 2 on the 3DS.

BlazBlue exists because Guilty Gear fans are 'too old'

When BlazBlue was first announced, Guilty Gear fans rejoiced. They rightfully guessed that the new series was the new iteration of Guilty Gear, but with all new characters and a tweaked engine. Still, some of Guilty Gear's hardcore fans have been holding out for another entry in the series. It doesn't look like that's ever going to happen, and the reason why might surprise you.

"The generation of Guilty Gear players has become a certain age – maybe a little bit too old for playing games. So making that reset brings in a new generation of fighting game players. Then they will be with us for the next few years".

Ageism at its finest...

GG R.I.P.

Japanese devs are so out of touch with gamers it hurts. I stopped playing fighting games 'cause of terrible Tekken 6, boring Street Fighter IV(personal opinion), retarded Soul Calibur IV, dumbed down KoF and lack of GG. Instead of giving what made them great they try to give me a shadow of former greatness. Bravo.

Guilty Gear is possibly the best fighting series ever made. BlazBlue was great and all, but I'd kill for another GG.

killalot1004795d ago

I agree with him that street fight 3rd strike is the best fighter ever. just my opinion

supremacy4795d ago

Going by that, than...i wonder what mortal kombat and street fighter fans must be.

Dinos..

Look it isn't about the fans being of certain age, its about the franchise being good and selling well.

Well that's a bit their point . MK and sf had universal success and appeal period .

Many years after and with a community that was always fringe at best , how were they supposed to go ?

They can hardly count on all GG fans coming back for each game , and those werent enough .
It was going the kof and dodo's way (even if in kof's case , the blame was mostly on snk and the quality of the games) .

With two blazblue games declined on 3 platforms so far , they are already outperforming GG with over 1.2 millions sold . Along with arcade success .

Still i believe we'll get a new GG game someday . Even if i wouldnt be surprised they try reviving it in a crossover with blazblue first

You do realize they both are pretty much based on the same concept right?

Again this is a poor excuse on their behalf, namco, sega, capcom every compnay i know still has their old franchises around despite some minor bumps here and there.

I mean what makes them sure that a new franchise will outperform a well known one?

Sure they have sold fairly well thus far, but it is also something that happens with certain release dates, and looking at whats happening in the market and how much competition you have around when you decide to release a certain product.

I am willing to bet that if a new GG is to be released now in one of those dry seasons fighters tend to have it will sell reasonably well if well spread through multiple platforms and arcades.

That much is obvious. Blueblaze probably also sold for less of what GG used to sell for a few years back.

Talking about all this, it makes me wish that Sammy vs capcom game never got canned.
