I think it's a western thing to not mind paying monthly fees for stuff.

But the Chinese version they pay for the number of minutes they are online. they literary pay for online gametime.

I won't pay a subscription fee. HOWEVER I just DLed the free version of BattleForge.. $45 later I am still playing the "free" game.

I think that pay by the minute or hour wouldn't seem that bad, especially if you are a more casual player, but only if it were to have a cap, like once you hit $15 you aren't charged any more that month. I think that would keep a lot more people who don't log in every day from canceling accounts.

I agree f-t-p is much much more common now. I'm still undecided between the options (becasue of content / the way games get structured) but it does suit certain styles!
