If you enjoy your massively multiplayer online games, you may have noticed lately that more and more developers are opting for the free to play business model over traditional subscription fees.
So can we ever expect to see the back of subscription fees?
Blizzard Entertainment has announced the opening of beta registrations for “World of Warcraft: The War Within,” inviting players to explore new subterranean worlds beneath Azeroth.
Danish from eXputer: "Despite Blizzard's attempt to give a fresh new spin to World of Warcraft, some fans still seem to be stuck in the past."
HG writes: "Blizzard is usually pretty bad at keeping secrets, but the company somehow managed to keep this one under wraps until now. Plunderstorm is a special limited-time event that’s basically World of Warcraft’s take on the Battle Royale genre."
I think it's a western thing to not mind paying monthly fees for stuff.
But the Chinese version they pay for the number of minutes they are online. they literary pay for online gametime.
See, if the free to play mmos were really good, I could see this happening.
I agree f-t-p is much much more common now. I'm still undecided between the options (becasue of content / the way games get structured) but it does suit certain styles!
