Activision Stock Dropping in Wake of Infinity Ward Scandal - Gamervision.com

Gamervision.com writes: "Overnight, all hell seems to have broken loose over at Infinity Ward, where some kind of scandal is brewing. We don't know all of the details yet, but it does seem like IW execs Jason Ward and Vince Zampella are no longer with the company due to some sort of human resources issue. While the gaming industry waits for more information, or a statement from either Infinity Ward or Activision, the publisher's stock is slowly dropping, which is sure to displease investors."

I don't want to jump to conclusions since no one really knows what's going on, but the investors have got to be pissed at Bobby Kotick after all this bad publicity.

Lifendz5194d ago (Edited 5194d ago )

let alone risk losing them in October. If it wasn't for Modern Warfare I wouldn't buy one single Activision game. Not one. Music games don't interest me and the Marvel Alliance games are a rental imo. Based on the numbers, the popularity of all those plastic guitar games are declining. And if I were to make the plunge into that genre it would be for Rockband since they don't seem hell bent on making me buy a new game every year.

Activision, where IW goes the gamers will follow. Bobby better kiss up and make nice nice or he and the other higher ups have quite the rude awakening coming their way.

Bnet3435194d ago

Reminds me of Tecmo stocks dropping when Itagaki left. It's sickening to hear news like this. Great developers put their asses on the line to make a great game only to get spit on the face by their publisher and then fired.

kratos1235194d ago

but you moent forget itakagi is a b&%$ he was acting like he owned the company

IdleLeeSiuLung5194d ago (Edited 5194d ago )

ATVI (Activision stock) dipped down less than 2% which is normal fluctuation in a day. There is nothing here linking the loss of IW to the stock price drop and believe me that only idiot investors would sell ATVI based on the loss of IW as if that is the sole reason to own it.

I love Infinity Ward (see my comment history), but IW doesn't make Activision.

The author should stick to games and not misleading reports of stocks!!!

Greywulf5194d ago

I don't feel bad/good about this. But You get what you put out.

sikbeta5194d ago

@Kassanova07

Is not gonna happen Pal, Blizzard is still There ready to save the Boat, that's why Kod!ck act like he can do whatever he want, man they are firing a lot of Devs, it's almost unbelievable

Anyway, Gamers FTW!!!

SilentNegotiator5194d ago

Investors don't want to see disorder amongst their companys' relationships.

jamesgtaiv5194d ago

Its like when EA tried to do a hostile take-over of Rockstar. The stocks dropped like a meteor shower. Any time theres a chance for a publisher change for any company, especially one so liquid, theres a lot of uncertainty in the air. I think IW should have kept their mouths shut to begin with and Activision shouldnt have acted like the mafia and stuck henchmen at the doors. This is like watching kids fight over who gets the money from a lemonade stand. Things like this make you wonder how any of these people got the jobs they lost today.

madjedi5193d ago

@1.5 Activision's financial lifeline is wow and the cod series, without those 2, they wouldn't have sh^t in the way of high revenue earners in their line up, the music and 150+ dollar gimmick controler based games are killing activistion.

IW's new ip they were going to make, would probably have done fairly well(assuming it's a shooter), despite mw2 being glitchy as hell, iw has made alot of good solid games, so they still have a rep as one of the better dev teams.

IW might not make up activistion, but with iw closing it seems, i see it affecting sales of future cod games and not in a positive way.

Like the old saying you Reap what you sow.

So this is just people getting mad at Activision and I think this is sad how Activision is treating there employees and I hope the people that lost there job at Infinity Ward find new jobs soon.

FragMnTagM5193d ago

It's supposed to be THEIR not there in the context of your sentence. Their meaning ownership. There meaning a place. Get it right! Like, Over there! For their: the truck is theirs... etc. etc.

Mc Nasty5194d ago (Edited 5194d ago )

The best thing to do is wait for a statement from either Infinity Ward or Activision to see whats really going on, O and one more thing, screw Bobby Kotick.

* Lets get NASTY!!!

5194d ago
LadyStardust5194d ago

Activision would never get rid of Bobby Kotick, he brings them so much money. Sure, it's at the expense of creativity, innovation, and the happiness of employees, but who cares? MONEY!

mikepmcc5194d ago

they have released a statement...nothing is being said about the lawsuits though, usually nothing is until they are through.

http://investor.activision....

jamesgtaiv5194d ago

Stardust has it about right. Greed is a major factor in any corporation. Every company has a D*ck Cheney that shoots employees in the face when they step out of line. Bobby is this companies D*ck. Im just surprised he hasnt flown a plane into the IW offices yet.

EDIT: Lol at censoring the name D*ck.

Why Is No One Making AAA Horror Games Anymore?

Saif from eXputer inquires, "Despite the everlasting popularity of the genre, why hasn't there been a good AAA horror game in a while now?"

Jin_Sakai1d 12h ago

Because the gaming industry is obsessed with live service games.

Rynxie23h ago

Because he touches himself at night to characters like lady Dimitrescu.

Crows9019h ago

You're the one still thinking about her

Rynxie19h ago

@crow

Did I give away your secret? It's okay, if you sit on your hand and numb it, you can pretend it's her playing with your little stick.

MaximusPrime_1d 11h ago

Good for me, I have no interests in horror games

-Foxtrot1d 2h ago

Even when they do it's first person trying to copy Outlast, Five Nights, P.T etc

I think the Dead Space / RE2 / RE4 Remake and the Evil Within 2 showed you can have a good story based, third person survival horror game.

jeromeface1d ago

remakes is another good reason

thesoftware73023h ago

Calisto Protocol was also fun with fantastic presentation.

FinalFantasyFanatic16h ago

I feel like we haven't had much in the way of horror games for years, I think it became rare after the PS2/PS3 gen. Maybe i'll pick up that Crow Country that recently came out, that looks good.

Venoxn4g13h ago

Crow Country needs some more love.. and more exposure

Redemption-641d ago

Because outside of a fee games, most don't sell that well

Crows9019h ago

So in other words...AAA publishers don't have creativity or passion for games.

CrimsonWing691d ago

Didn’t we have Dead Space Remake and Resident Evil 4 Remake last year?

thorstein1d ago (Edited 1d ago )

Among others

And isn't Dying Light 2 a horror game?

Scissorman1d ago

And Alan Wake 2 and Alone in the Dark.

on_line_forever8h ago

I like Alone in the dark but it's not AAA game

richardmmorales15h ago

We also had The Quarry and The Dark Pictures The Devil In Me.

N64: Recompiled — Creating Native PC Ports Is A Godsend For Game Preservation

"In a time when companies don't care about preserving games, I have high respect for the creators of projects like N64: Recompiled." - Hanzala from eXputer.

gold_drake3d ago

it is, i might be finally able to play Snowboard kids 1 full screen ha.

purple1012d ago

il beat you to the ski-lift,

framerate on snowboard kids was shocking, do you remember./?

talking of shocking framerate and kart racers style games,
Sony had a gem on ps3, with 'Modnation Racers' but again, framerate was so terrible, still fun though, indeed, when is drifting sideways not fun, the answer is never. we have not seen enough of that game, technically some people made race tracks/games in dreams and little big planet etc, but its just not the same,!!! grrrrr

morning rant over.

here, relive some ,memories. https://www.youtube.com/wat...

itBourne2d ago

The load time on ModNation where also excruciatingly long... But man oh man I wish that game took off more, so much fun! Could turn off garbage rubber banding, I had karts with 100's of stickers to design some crazy cool stuff, custom tracks. Fantastic undeappreciated game

gold_drake1d 23h ago

SK1 had a fairly good framerate. sk2 maybe not so much ha

Redgrave1d 23h ago

Some food for thought:

Would you donate your physical copy of a really rare/expensive cartridge (Conkers's BFD, Bomberman 64 Second Attack, Ogre Battle 64, the two Castlevania titles, etc) to those managing this project for the greater good of getting them preserved online for all to experience at some point?

UltimateOwnage1d 23h ago

As long as it meant they never took money from Patreon and invited a DMCA takedown / lawsuit by Nintendo to take it all away. After seeing the whole debacle with Yuzu I now question how long any of these teams can maintain game preservation efforts through emulator development, or otherwise.

franwex1d 19h ago

I mean. They may borrow them…

Profchaos1d 16h ago

Is it realistically needed though I would not personally give anyone my old carts for games that are already persevered and easily available online

Inverno1d 22h ago

The snippet of ray tracing at the end of the og trailer was low-key amazing. I found out thanks to Nerrel who also made a texture pack for MM, and i can't wait to see how much more great this game will be in the near future. With model swaps, ray tracing, retextures, and a more quicker process than decompilation, it's gonna bring new life to N64 games.

Profchaos1d 16h ago

There might need to be a bit of clarification recompilation is not the same as decompilation.

This is basically a container to excite the rom within but allows for all sorts of beat additions and tricks like new lighting effects such as ray tracing to be added.

But decompilation would ultimately be king as it allows for a widespread porting capabilities and uses the assets from games to build a native install for PC or whatever the target system is e.g Mario 64 for PC or sonic mania for psvita / wii

Activision’s new Elsewhere Entertainment studio is working on a new IP

Headquartered in Poland, Elsewhere Entertainment — an all-new internal studio at Activision — is working on a new “narrative-based and genre-defining AAA franchise.” Elsewhere includes developers credited on The Last of Us, Uncharted, Destiny, Cyberpunk, and more. Activision’s new studio announcement comes just a week after its parent company, Microsoft, closed three Bethesda studios. It also follows job postings about a new Activision IP.

The game industry confuses, closing down proven studios only open a new studio?

ThinkThink5d ago

It would certainly be strange if this news came from Bethesda, but Activision is its on monster.

Eonjay4d ago

To be fair, many Activision employees lost their jobs too during the the last few months. So it really is quite odd to see them opening another studio. All I can say is they better not do another mass layoff anytime soon or its just gonna piss everyone off. Studio description reminds me of The Initiative. The only saving grace is that they aren't claiming to be making a AAAA game lol. I guess we will check back in in 5 years to see how everything is going.

Gotta break some eggs to make an omelet.

romulus234d ago

Tango Gameworks was the omelet, so that statement fails on the face of it.

InUrFoxHole4d ago

Really? What special games did they make 🤔

romulus234d ago

@InUrFoxHole

Well, xbox was pretty adamant that Hi-Fi Rush was special, journalist and gamers seemed to agree and from my own personal experience I would say it was a great game. They also made Ghostwire: Tokyo, and the Evil Within series.

thesoftware7304d ago (Edited 4d ago )

Yeah, then the head/lead of the company left...

No hope for a good Evil within game, ghost wire was not really successful, and HI-FI alone was not enough to keep an entire studio open.

Eonjay4d ago

@thesoftware730

I think the fact that this 'wasn't enough' is a problem wouldn't you concede?

+ Show (1) more replyLast reply 4d ago
romulus234d ago

Hi-Fi Rush was a great game regardless of who left and according to Aaron Greenberg,

"Hi-Fi RUSH was a break out hit for us and our players in all key measurements and expectations. We couldn’t be happier with what the team at Tango Gameworks delivered with this surprise release."

So of course they rewarded the team for their accomplishment by firing them. They have studios that have contributed much less that they haven't closed. It is going to be very difficult for any game to be successful when it goes straight to gamepass day one.

Einhander19724d ago (Edited 4d ago )

I think this is just a publicity stunt and that this studio never actually produces a game. Someone at Microsoft was like were getting cooked in the media after they closed these studios and they came up with a plan to create some dummy studio someplace outside of the reach of the English speaking presses reach to distract people.

"Oh hey we're not closing studios we're actually creating studios"

And of course what are they working on... the type of game that gets the most popular public perception a narrative driven story based game... ya know not the thing Activision and Microsoft are known for.

4d ago Replies(2)
Einhander19724d ago

GamingFans6946m ago
They hired a bunch of people and opened a new studio for a publicity stunt?

Yea, they hired people... Who? "Oh, you know, people..." people who worked on TLOU Uncharted and Destiny of course...

It's the same crap they did with The Initiative where they were under fire for buying a bunch of studios and not forming anything except even more sketchy this time. Of course the The Initiative was formed with people mostly poached from PlayStation specifically Naughty Dog, then less than 12 months later almost everyone was back at Sony and The Initiative was rumored to have lost 80% of it's staff and the game they were working on was announced to actually be getting developed by Crystal Dynamics.

Noskypeno4d ago

The way we need to look at these buzzwords is the same that we see when a sports team brings in the best athletes in their position in hopes to bring them to look like a superteam, only to barely win half of their games or lose in the first round of the playoffs. Sometimes superteams work, but when it doesn't it just makes you question how they can't take advantage of their abilities.
