Deserves every sale it gets. This game blew my mind!!

Cyrax_875197d ago

I remember people saying it'll flop hard and the lifetime sales literally wouldn't pass 80,000 copies worldwide. How do you take your crow?

deadreckoning6665197d ago (Edited 5197d ago )

Damn, and that was with NO TV advertising. Word of mouth is working very well for Sony this generation :) The stereotype that PS3 gamers don't buy games is long gone.

@Dance- The people who say VgChartz is unreliable are the people whos "favored" console gets stomped on in sales. I've personally always thought VgChartz to be very reliable actually.

silvacrest5197d ago

this is pretty good
even i managed to buy it online and i really wasn't going to until GOW3

UnwanteDreamz5197d ago

I second that. I only got 4 hrs of sleep last night thanks to HR.

gaffyh5197d ago (Edited 5197d ago )

LOL how many times can Pachter and Neogaf be wrong? haha.

Pachter is awesome, but he is almost always wrong about the games industry. Neogaf seem to hate every PS3 exclusive game, they were saying this wouldn't even sell 100k, and would flop hard.

Edit: Just realized it's VGC...

PrimordialSoupBase5197d ago

While I hate the game itself, I'm glad this kind of content did well. I applaud Quantic and Sony for the risk.

5197d ago
StanLee5197d ago

Okay, so NOW VGChartz is a solid source, right?! LOL. I'm sure Heavy Rain did well as it's number 1 in the UK but you fools are such hypocrites it's disgusting.

starvinbull5197d ago

The article entitled "why heavy rain is destined to fail" springs to mind.

Hellsvacancy5197d ago (Edited 5197d ago )

Im 1 of those 500K woop woop woop, I SO RULE

Congrats and thanks to all involved in elevating this niche genre.

STFU! 360 loyalists never trashed this game or wanted it to fail. You're acting like it put up Mass Effect 2 numbers? In case you didn't know, the company made Indigo Prophecy which was made on xbox. This company is not a Sony exclusive company. This game is similar to ME2 because the decisions you make determine the outcome, but on a different scale. It felt a little like Shenmue. 360 owners would've loved to have this game on their consoles just as much as PS3 loyalists would've loved to have Mass Effect 2. The only losers here are the idiots that pledge loyalty to a particular console. Read every comment here and the only negative one is from guy that said he hopes games don't move in this direction because he likes action games. I am sure 360 owners can appreciate this game for what it is since Indigo Prophecy was another great title. Leave your fanboy rants in the OPEN ZONE

captain-obvious5197d ago

now i got to say
thats really really good

solidt125197d ago

Wow, I got it day one and I love the game but i didn't think it would do those numbers. Well deserved.

C-R-E-A-M5197d ago

Im suprised. I got a ps3 but i let this game pass. Its not my type... Im just waiting for gow3...Still the sales are amazing for a brand new ip pple that pple said it would flop.

Blaze9295197d ago

so no one is complaining that the source is VG Chartz all a sudden? LOL

doG_beLIEfs5197d ago (Edited 5197d ago )

Yes, VGchartz IS unreliable, but let me explain.

VGchartz UNDERESTIMATES PS3 console sales or exclusives. Don't take my word for it...compare what they say to actual sales and almost everytime they are UNDER what was really sold and end up having to adjust their figures accordingly. That is why mostly PS fans have labeled them unreliable. So if VGchartz says this PS3 title sold "x" amount in all likelihood the actual sales are HIGHER.

So what does this mean? If VGchartz has "x" amount sold, you can be pretty confident that the actual numbers are HIGHER.

So if anything, Heavy Rain has sold more than a half a million copies WW by now.

Blew that one up eh those who are fans of 360 and hate PS3?

EDIT

Aside from UNERestimating PS3 sales, VGC is known for OVERestimating 360 sales....that is not conjecture....that is a FACT.

Aquanox5197d ago

And in other news, Mass Effect 2 sold 2 million in week one.

There must be a reason why 360 exclusives tend to sell massively more.

SnuggleBandit5197d ago (Edited 5197d ago )

1.Take your old bull crap that ain't true outta here...the open zone is that way ---->

2.You are really showing your and all of the 360 fanboys' insecurity

3.Mass effect 2 is sitting at 1.5 million right now LMAO (over four weeks later) It didn't even hit ONE million in a week.....

captain-obvious5197d ago

@1.21
http://www.vgchartz.com/gam...

ME2 is almost 1.5 to date
the hell are you smokin ?

TheLog5197d ago

Not my cup of tea. I rather have precise control over my character than pressing a botton and the cpu will decide where it will move. I think majority people buy consoles to play a game not somewhat watch a game. Half a mill is still a good number, congrats to them. I hope more companies will take more bold approach to games in future.

nix5197d ago (Edited 5197d ago )

the game is amazing... people.. everyone should buy it! q:

@log:
dude.. it depends on what you want. i like games which has story in it. i want some form of story so that it gives me reason to hack n slash or shoot my way forward. the story in this game is mind blowing. the story is gripping. it's got suspense. it's a thriller. though sitting through a thriller for 11 hours is too much to ask for. but it's all worth it. and with around 18 (official) different epilogues, it's a different experience with everyone.

plus i think you are one of those people who are waiting for natal where you don't have to press any buttons.

baum5197d ago (Edited 5197d ago )

Why do you have to reveal your insecurity? You're only pwning yourself. This is not a popular genre, unlike shooters like Mass Effect 2 (well, third person shooter with touches of RPG, to be precise ;D). I expected less than a million for a game in its lifetime given its exclusivity status and that it's kinda niche, but half a million in one week is just amazing and brings a ray of hope for the industry as it gets flooded with shovelware and shooters.

Oh, and no, not all 360 exclusives are huge successes. Banjo Kazooie, Infinite Undiscovery.... well, do your research, the 360 is filled with exclusive flops, especially in japan. Titles that succeed on 360 are usually overrated and massively hyped games. I bet you don't think the 360 gets free passes from the media, all the reviews 360 exclusives get are honestly not influenced by duffel bags ;)

BTW, you're drinking too much of that Halo branded cool aid, leave some for the rest of us.

Raf1k15197d ago

Apparently VGChartz is a site that usually creates underestimated sales figures for PS3 games so doesn't it make sense that if that's true this may also be an underestimation meaning PS3 fans have more to be happy about?

TheLog5197d ago (Edited 5197d ago )

@nix

I like story in my games too im intrested in this game at first but its just too much QTEish for me. If only the QTE was optional then im sold. People and the devs said there is not much QTE but when i see demo, its everwhere. Hmmm maby i go to youtube for story hehe.

Regarding Natal Khehehe you are right but im not really waiting for it. More like wanting to see what it has to offer. Im only sold when i see it in action. Looks like E3 gonna be it.

SoX FireBlade5197d ago

best selling original ip on ps3 ?

5197d ago
DarkTower8055197d ago

With these amazing opening sales I'm sure Sony is giving the green light for more of these type of games.

Quantic Dream, you rock and give us more.

RedPawn5197d ago

So what did Mass Effect 1 sell in it's 1st week? New IP, not a sequel, sorry?

5197d ago
doG_beLIEfs5197d ago

I remember many articles about VGC having to round their PS number UP when official figures come out and rounding 360 numbers DOWN when official figures come out.

So if by stating FACTS makes me a moron IYO, then so be it.

But with the likes of POG and WeWon on this site I would bet that YO is in the minority, yours and others like you.

This is just MO, but when PS fans such as myself post, we use FACTS a hellof alot more than the other side.

sikbeta5197d ago

Great Game, Definitely Deserve the Sales, DC this time Made something Huge and didn't F*cked Up like with Indigo/F

Congrats to DC, QD and the People that bought The Game

Gamers FTW!!!

BYE5197d ago

Honestly, I never expected this game to flop, given the huge amount of people that were lusting for it even long before the release.

zeeshan5197d ago (Edited 5197d ago )

@Aquanox: So now your are so desperate to downplay this that you are trying to compare a game that could define a new genre, an experiment and a new IP to an established IP and on top of that you are trying to manipulate the sales figures of ME2. Get a freggin' life and welcome to my ignore list.

It is VGC and that means the numbers are wrong and the original numbers must be far better. Lets wait to hear from NPD guys at least when it comes to the US sales. I am sure it'll do great when you count the Worldwide sales.

DaTruth5197d ago (Edited 5197d ago )

Guys, don't start the party yet! It's just VGChartz!

This just in; Deadly Premonition sells 2 mil in one week in Fantasy La La Land!

Looking at the comments above, seems 360 fanboys can insult anyone they want and Ps3 owners get comment deleted and sent to the open zone for anything that can be construed as insulting to 360 owners.

And now that I've called it out, guess I'll see you guys in a week!

FamilyGuy5197d ago (Edited 5197d ago )

But they don't usually OVERestimate the sales of PS3 games so this is even better news.

Yeah, I just hope the developer is happy with the sales, ie expected around or less than this. The shortages/fact it was understocked would indicate as much but you never know. Hopefully they get more presses right away before they loose a crap load of possible sales to game rental store.

Saaking5197d ago

Wow, I honestly didn't expect this game to be over 200k. It's is such an incredible game. It deserves every single copy sold. I've played it over three times over now. Seriously guys, if you haven't played it go get it. You will not be disappointed.

Consoldtobots5196d ago

lol somebody got aquaNOXed out.

hagla5196d ago

You are forgetting that Mass Effect 2 isn't exclusive... It did sell 2 million in it's first week but that was xbox 360 and PC combined sales... z-hayden is right, the xbox 360 version is sitting at 1.47 million copies sold to date...

That being said, what are you smoking captain-obvious?

jeseth5196d ago

What a roller coaster. F'ING INTENSE .... the game gets you so worked up you find yourself getting anxious and nervous which makes some of the split second decisions get screwed up, thusly affecting your outcome.

What an incredible game! Bravo Quantic Dream, Bravo!

for a new ip and the level of uniqueness that this game has, this is really good. this game is a success if it hits a million later on this year...

on topic:

this is another slap on the bots face!! another AAA game for ps3!! maaan will AAA games ever stop from coming to PS3??

i predict heavy rain will see around 2 millions in its life if not more!!

ps3 is all about innovation and having the balls to take risks!!

Chubear5197d ago

The 360 fanbase will support games like ODST and the PS3 fanbase will support games like Heavy Rain. Uhmmm, yeah, I can live with that lol

RedDragan5197d ago

I wonder if this is one of those games where word of mouth will encourage many more to go and buy it even if they never intended to do so...

perhaps there are more suprises in store for Quantic Dream regarding sales of this title, I am certainly telling the guys in work to make this a definite purchase.

RedDragan5197d ago

This is the best game I have ever played. I have never conneced with characters like that in my life, not even in movies!

Well done Quantic Dream, you have a real juggernaught of a game here!

movements5197d ago

Not too shabby at all. Congrats, Quantic.

1233605197d ago

i can,t get it in our area at all,its sold out completely, all the store managers would say is they under estimated its sales, asda didn,t receive any at all due to supplys being shiped else where.which was a total pain when the intercom in store speaker was telling you to pick it up.me being one of the suckers who asked the sales desk to be told no its sold out every where at the moment isn,t it.happiness to anger in a second was what the spotty face twat had to deal with.

Please stop comparing video games to movies

"Many video games catch not only great commercial attention but remarkable critical attention as well. We have seen games like Heavy Rain, The Last of Us Part II, and even entries in the Metal Gear series described as fantastic interactive experiences, even heralded in the same way as Hollywood's greatest films.

I would suggest that not only is this an unfair comparison but also a harmful one. Video games, by their very nature, are an intricately different medium and should be weighed against one another rather than another form of media," Phillip writes for GF365.

Fist4achin1285d ago

Yes, please stop. They're better than most hollywood drivel nowadays.

BLAKHOODe1285d ago

I think Hollywood films will becoming increasingly more like video games in the future, especially as the world embraces the "new normal" from the pandemic. It makes sense, as games like Spider-Man: Miles Morales showcase just how realistically we're reaching in graphical capabilities, as well as showcase extreme action sequences in spectacular ways. And as time goes by, it'll get easier and cheaper to produce such "art", as well as create new star "actors" that never age, never die, never complain, never gets involved in scandals, etc. Technology is amazing and we're only just getting a taste of what it'll eventually be.

sourOG1285d ago

No. Some games are like movies.

medman1284d ago (Edited 1284d ago )

No. For the money spent, a quality game provides far more entertainment value than a quality movie. Especially when looking at what is going on in the world, and how a studio can attempt to pilfer from consumers by charging 30 dollars for Mulan via streaming. Ridiculous. There is no comparison....games all day.

Have you played Detroit? While it’s my personal favorite, I fully understand many preferring Heavy Rain more. I’m glad you enjoyed Heavy Rain too.

bouzebbal1442d ago

def. one of my top 3 best experiences on PS3

ClayRules20121442d ago

bouzebbal

That’s awesome to hear! What’re the other 2 best experiences?

akaFullMetal1442d ago

Great game, need to get started on Detroit soon.

ClayRules20121442d ago

Glad you enjoyed the game! Yes, Detroit is a masterpiece of a game, and their best work to date “in my opinion”

ClayRules20121442d ago

Wow, 10 years...and yet, still one of the best/most emotional/thrilling gaming experiences I’ve ever had.

So grateful to Sony for believing in Quantic Dream’s vision for this game, and giving them a chance. I’ll never forget David Cage saying “We want to challenge the player, but not with the controller, but mentally, with their decisions of “How far would you go to save someone you love” Well, they broke my emotional gamer heart lol.

My teenage son refuses to play this game, because I’ve told him in little detail the emotional impact it had on me all those years ago. Maybe one day he will.

Still have my origami crane they teach you how to make when you're installing for the first time.

it's been 10 years? wow, that was so fast, I feel like this console gen went fast as well although it hasn't. I really look forward to the PS5 this holiday season though.
