GamesLatest: Puzzle Chronicles review

Puzzle RPG seems to be the new trend nowadays on the handheld gaming devices, and when GamesLatest saw a puzzle RPG published by Konami and coming from the puzzle RPG creators, they were thrilled to load it up and give it a try. The developers, Infinitive Interactive (of Puzzle Quest), worked hard on coming up with an intriguing storyline, full of twists, side quests and RPG gameplay elements, but the end result is not that good. They managed to enhance the usual colour-matching falling blocks mechanics, but after some playing time, you can't help but feel the shortcomings of such formula.

IGN: Puzzle Chronicles Review

Puzzle Quest super fans will be able to look past Chronicles' awful visuals and enjoy the fantasy puzzling it offers on the inside. But it is ugly as sin and doesn't do anything remarkably different from its inspiration. If Puzzle Quest is a super hot girl, Puzzle Chronicles is her homely friend with a nice personality.

GameSpot: Puzzle Chronicles Review

The campaign here is lengthy but not very satisfying, and 30 bucks is a steep asking price for a game whose appearance and repetitive nature make it feel like it ought to be priced as a standard downloadable release. Your hero may seem unstoppable in his struggle to overthrow an evil emperor, but he can't toss Puzzle Quest off of its throne as the enduring king of this genre.
