Ryan Davis writes, "That Dante's Inferno is almost proudly derivative of Sony's God of War series isn't inherently a bad thing, but its lack of unique accomplishments makes for a hollow experience.
Between Darksiders and Dante's Inferno, there's been an awful lot of chatter in early 2010 about the relative virtues of originality in games. The proliferation of new, often very specific gameplay ideas is intrinsic to game development, but these are both games that are particularly unapologetic about where their inspiration comes from. Darksiders is a whole-cloth tribute to The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time--and, by association, all of the main Zelda games released since--which applies a darker, bloodier motif to that very specific gameplay formula. Similarly, Dante's Inferno takes the God of War format and swaps out a brutal, heavy-metal take on Greek mythology with a brutal, heavy-metal take on the medieval vision of Hell.
There are good video game protagonists, and there are bad video game protagonists.
I disagree that max is unlikable. Chloe is infinitely more unlikable in my opinion.
Most of these aren't even that bad. Especially comparing to others like Squall "Whatever" Leonhart, Forspoken's Frey, and the guy from Atomic Heart.
i had to stop reading after the "blatant misogyny" in the Dantes inferno section.
i actually liked Max haha.
the forspoken chick is missing tho
Grab your katana, and slice your way through this list featuring the best hack and slash games the PlayStation 3 had to offer.
Dante's inferno... an excellent GoW inspired game. So sad the sequels will never be.
heavenly sword was such a short, but amazing game. that game should be prime material to be made into a download only remaster.
I really enjoyed Castlevania, but struggled to get into it again reattempting it a few years back. I still think it does another of things well; story, presentation, level varietily and art style at least. Gameplay maybe has not stood test of time unfortunately which makes it a chore to get through.
Dante's Inferno at 4K 60FPS!
Sad this may never get the sequel it deserves. It's still one of the best GoW clones around.
I would love to revisit my old PS3 games played at a higher framerate and resolution. UC2, TLOU, GOW3, KZ2 & 3, Demon Souls
In other words a 4/10? Seems a bit low to me but I haven't played it so I can't say much.
Take reviews with a grain of salt. Play it yourself ( rent it ) and go from that experience. I for one love this game. Is it the best? No is is not. Is it the score this one person gave in "his opinion". No, it is not again. Look how many of these so called " reviewers " gave CODMW2 a 10. Then turns out CODMW2 is nothing new at all. It is freakin COD4 all over again. Wow, big time game breaking there huh? Again, play it yourself. You just might be totally surprised as I was. Just think if you took everyone's "opinion " as fact. What a shallow world you would live in. Play the game.
...but the thing that gets me is why does GOW, Dante's Inferno, Darksiders etc... get scrutinized for being similar when there are hundreds of bloody fps's out there that are not doing anything spectacularly different either?!!!
I guess if you get to shoot a gun, these games get a free ride....gimme a break!
