I just bought it the other day too, have never played them before and let me tell you.. It is worth every penny! I don't know why I never played them before. The graphics are impressive upscaled to HD, the story and gameplay mechanics are great too. I have watched all of the behind the scenes footage from the disk for GOW2 and it was really cool too. Can't wait for GOW3!

Those screen shots look so much better in game in GOW3 than the CG cutscenes from GOW2.

That's a HUGE leap forward in just 3 years. LMAO, 360 fans actually called it GOW 2.5. Man, do they look foolish now.

If you haven't played the first two GOW games, then get the collection. GOWII actually looks better than some early 360 games and even some games released today. It's a must have for any gamer (seriously 2 epic games for just 30 bucks? insane deal).

Starchild, have you seen the GameTrailer footage? I ask because I had basically the same impression until I saw that footage. Screenshots do not do this game justice.

Once you see the new build in motion, you'll understand the hype. Especially when scale is factored in. It really does look stunning.

Personally, I NEVER doubted God of war 3. On Gametrailers, they had HD videos of the E3 demo during E3 2009 and those videos showed GOW3 looking JUST AS GOOD as Uncharted 2.

I never saw the gow games for their detail and graphics. I saw them for their scale. The brutality part of the gameplay and story were big parts but for me it was all about the scale. The size of everything around you and how the screen adjusted to display even more environment at the right times.

First time facing off against rhodes or seeing the steeds of time off in the distance and then being able to run up on them. Simply amazing. It goes to show that the ps3 gow game will be continuing the scale of the ps2 versions while upping the ante graphically. Gameplay is classic kratos, scale is classic gow. You can't go wrong with that.

Yeah, the last 2 screenshots with gaia and hades are from the cgi cinematics on PS2.

The PS3 counterparts are ingame and look much better then the PS2 cgi!

I played it for the 1st time 2 weeks ago, the PS2 version on my b/c PS3. Yeah there are some parts that do look like old graphics.

However there are scenes that are really quite spectacular to look at. (1st Titan you see - Kronos I think with his hairy chest was beautiful)

And I actually would say the proper GoW2 has better graphics than the imposter GoW2 (Gears of War 2 - horrible looking game)

There really is a huge difference between this generation of consoles and the last - and that is just looking at things from a graphical standpoint. The audio in games this gen is also a huge leap forward, with full surround and higher bit/sample rates. Crazy to see that in-game GoW III footage looks so much better than GoW II CGI!

Regardless of this comparison, nothing is better than seeing it in action. The demo alone, albeit it being an older build looks so great in action. Ripping off the cyclops eye out of socket once Kratos has no more use of his existence is so tastefully done. All that blood splatter sticking on Kratos' body is such a nice touch.

people don't understand just how much of an improvement the PS3 is over the PS2.

i'm fortunate in that i bought a PS3 within three months of launch, so i have a fully BC 60gig, so i think the PS3 is the best console ever (i can play PS1, PS2 AND PS3 games on one machine; how is that NOT awesome?).

the 360 just doesnt have a dedicated first party studio such as sony.. sony has been in the game for a while and have loyalist from the get go... the 360 most of its exclusive games are usual converts of PC games or 3rd party studio turning into first while the game might be on the 360 alone aka alan wake.. it was not made from the ground up for the 360 so that goes to show the game its not exactly speced for the 360 .. .really..

secondly..360 is not a hard act to master so it doesnt really challenge developers so u since anything is sort of accepted not much will stand out unlike the ps3 which all knw is generally harder to programme for so those to say " u knw what i wanna make a brilliant looking ps3 exclusive.." once they understand that challenging system the rewards are big.. and sony on the other hand has been pushing its first party studios and investing heavily on them unlike MS.. and i must say i am impressed from naughty dog, to quantic dreams, to santa monica (sony), to GG.. brilliant studios on sonys platform and they deliver.. some beautiful looking stuff..

so until MS actually takes a step like sony to fund making a good game engine and stop freaking relying on 3rd party studios we wont see anything exactly like this on the 360 .... Reach looks good but i dont even think that game engine is was the 360 exactly as per say.. since from what we knw bungie is done after reach .. and will move to ther things and mind u ... they are not exactly a 100 percent first party studio ... so i dout they would make the engine just for the 360... and NO. I find no matter how much better Sony developers improve on their games they will never get the sales that will equal the amount of quality that reflects. The game I'm looking at is L4D2 being pretty much the same game a year later selling millions followed by anything Halo so far, the Froza series, Ninja Gaiden 2..etc.

To Sony it was about providing diversity and art that truly seperates them from the rest. That is the importance of games like ICO and HR to Sony. Money is really very much not important to them with regards to these art games.

Uneda hasen't even sold more than 1.5 million copies of his games and yet he is highly regarded in the industry. As high as Kojima and KY. Thats respect you can't buy or get buy selling millions upon millions of game copies.

As for quality. Your logic fails in that you still don't understand that the x360 and PS3 userbase are generally very very different. Thats why alot of us don't see alot of things eye eye. For example, to x360 fans its woth it to pay for good online service like live while to PS3 fans its not. PS fans a 33% failure rate is not acceptable but x360 fans its alright with the 3 year warrenty.

Time and time again we have seen that x360 fans flock to any FPS in droves. Thats generally the x360 userbase. Now even with a game like ME2 which got 96 on meta hasen't sold a fraction of Gears 2 or Halo 3 or MWF2 sales on day one. In fact, i will be surprise if ME2 even get 3.5 million on the x360 alone by the end of the year.

PS fans are generally open to diversity.

What you're talking about is subjectivity with a little on perspective, the reason why I say this because subjectivity is unique while perspective how people see things or expect things.

What I was talking about is that while Microsoft developers dish out the same games or very similar to their predecessors get really high reviews. As with Sony games if they manage to achieve a high quality game - quality is defined by graphics, game-play, audio, & value based on facts a.k.a. objectivity perspective - will get lower reviews with lower sales.

As with user-base comment this to me is subjectivity/perspective because for example the online services the consumer inertia - view on a company/person is fixed based on previous experiences - will be hard to over come once made. This basically means if players had bad experiences last generation with Sony's online console they will look at the next console with that negative fixation even if valid evidence says otherwise. In the end what many people will see is "customer inertia" vs. "customer inertia". I for example had bad experiences with Rogers with my cell phone, I'm now with Telus so my "inertia" will prevent me from going back to Rogers again for my cell phone needs based on my experiences previously even if evidence suggests otherwise (because I already changed and don't want to do it again so I resist going through the process again). Many pro Microsoft will say Sony's online sucks because of some bad experience and vice versa.

In the end it's the power to lack change once doing something. With subjectivity/perspective try to see this as truth vs fact; truth (perception) - what one sees - and fact - what one knows - can simplify what I typed. I can count the number of vehicles on my street, but not the number of thoughts in everyone's head. The expectation creates the truth, and what people fall in love with.

The rendering technique to make GOW3 look this good is to use a single SPE in conjunction with the RSX GPU to accelerate the GPU to match and possibly surpass the 360's Xenos GPU. Here is the technique at its alpha stages.

In case some people didn't understand, this tech demo, like GOW3, ran at 720p, rendering 1.4 Million triangles per frame at 60fps. By comparison, Uncharted 2 renders 1.2 Million triangles per frame at 30fps. Now you know how much GOW3 has actually passed U2 by.

Im surprised that God of War 3 actually looks this good. I have played Killzone 2 and Uncharted 2 and love them and if I played any other game it would look really poor and left a bad taste in my mouth as it didn't feel that the price should be the same as those games. Im not including MGS4 or inFAMOUS cos those games are amazing.

Any ways from what I have seen GOW3 looks better than Uncharted 2 which is an amazing feat as Uncharted 2 was only released like 4-5 months ago and God of War 3 just looks EPIC in its scale.

The leap from PS2 to PS3 i like Super nintendo to Gamecube. When Sony delivers a new console is because they are offering something that is significantly superior than its predecesor in every possible way.

Not sure what the author is trying to say that those shots are "pre rendered" compared to "in game.' Both of those shots come from QTE movies and not actual gameplay. QTE events always look better than gameplay. And I seen the game in action and the jump is not that big.

Seriously, Im not trying to rip on Alan Wake (and if it wasnt for Red Dead Redemption, Id have already pre-ordered the game), but how could you seriously think that the graphics behind Alan is superior to GOWIII? The action on screen compared to Alan Wake alone shows how superior it is IMO. 50 enemies on screen, no loading at all,a scale that we have never seen in video games period, and visuals that quite frankly scare from how impressive they are. IMO, its not even a competition.

I doubt that you've even played the demo. nah, you didn't play the demo because you are a pathetic fanboy. If you weren't such a fanboy and actually did some research you would know that there are different bosses like hades and posiden. As for the move set, there are new weapons for kratos to use like the gaunlets and a few new attacks like the move where kratos grabs an enemy and rams him through the others.

the QTE's graphics and the graphics from the actual gameplay are the same. also, If you took the time to look at the article(which you obviously didn't)you would see there is a huge jump in graphics.

Please, give GOW3 credit where credit is due. This is a GOW3 post and leave it at that. If you don't have a PS3 or not interested in the title, why troll a PS3 only article. It goes both ways so that was uncalled for.

I think single console owners are really missing the best of both worlds.

I Cant recall any screen tearing in any of the God of War 3 Footage I've seen so far. I'm not saying there is no screen tearing in GOW 3(Probably not) but I have not seen any as of this moment.

Sooo yeah hoping they fix all that screen tearing before release, or they will take off points in the reviews.... or will they?

Alan Wake looks amazing...but it doesn't touch KZ2, none the less U2 or even Heavy Rain and FINALLY not GOWIII (doesn't touch graphically - i'm sure Alan Wake will be one of the top games this year ) =/

I had heard of screen tearing before and seen screenshots of it in games, but that was the first time I ever actually noticed it on a running game.

I thought it must have been the video because my PC wasn't playing it well. That must have been the worst screen tearing in videogame history; The entire screen broke in half like an old projector reel!

Still though, Alan Wake looks like a good game, but dark, foggy backgrounds with 2 enemies is the epitome of smokescreens! Compared to 50 enemies and massive scale titans moving in the background, looking off the side of a mountain!

I only just got round to playing God of War 2 (thanks to the Collection) and thought it was awesome. It puts games like Dante's Inferno to shame for me, the set pieces were incredible and the story ended in such a "OMGWTFHAPPENSNEXT???&quo t; kinda way.

If I had played it on PS2, it would have literally blown me away. The E3 demo was amazing too, certainly pushed GoW3 from "will buy eventually" to a day one purchase for me.

And I too am gobsmacked at how far games have come graphically this gen. Several WOW moments from when I 1st played my 360, then GT5 prologue, then Uncharted, then Killzone 2 etc etc...

*new epic scale combat like NEVER BEFORE

*new set of moves including charge and controlling a cyclops!

*new boss fights and enemies who now vary their strategies depending on your situation (if you get hold of a cyclops it looked clear the "infantry" from a testudo to defend themselves more successfully)

*MOAR GOD OF WAR!!!

Alan Wake looks like a fantastic game, and the graphics look great in its own right. But to say that they trump God of War 3's graphics, you gotta be kidding me. Have you not seen the footage on gametrailers?

You're either blind or blatantly biased. God of War 3 is in another league. An earlier review is quoted as saying the graphics are "beyond belief". Get your eyes checked and stop posting nonsense.

I agree with some posts that the amount of action going on in GoW3 is so much more than Alan Wake. Give the credit where its due.

Gonna be honest, the game looks awesome, but it certainly doesn't have the WOW factor like when the Ninja Gaiden demo dropped on the original Xbox - now THAT was a jump in graphical fidelity.

This game actually doesn't look as slick as Bayonetta. Get off your Sony dildo and do some comparisons before you spray your periods all over my post.

EDIT: I've played both the Bayonetta and the GoWIII demo on my 65" professionally calibrated Panasonic Plasma, so graphical fidelity between games becomes incredibly apparent, especially in color use. If you have something equal or better to compare the games on, please let me know if I'm missing something here, but I still think Bayonetta looks better - richer colors, higher detail.

I played the Darksiders demo after I watched the GOW III footage and lets just say the graphics looked like sh!t in comparison.

By the way, Darksiders is a great game, I will buy it soon.

PS3 exclusives are making it harder and harder to stomach the visuals in other games.

Played the demo and the originals. I love the story but maybe its just im not a fan of the hack and slash too much. The graphics do look great.(Nothing IMO the 360 couldnt do though) The best graphics for this game are when they zoom towards Kratos' face, the detail there is real real nice.
