Project Natal Breakdancing Video

Here is a Project Natal break dancing video featuring Sean G. Aside from being pretty cool, it does show off how well Project Natal is able to track your motions, especially in a low light situation.

That would actually be a good video if 1) it stayed on the game screen and the guy dancing and 2) what translation of motion it showed was crap.

Edit@below:
*Some* of the motions were caught on screen. There was some kind of clipping going on when he tried a handstand.

KingKionic 5176d ago

It was a pretty funny vid though . Im surprised those motions picked up on screen...rofl .

Blaze9295176d ago (Edited 5176d ago )

lmao hilarious. Natal, it only does everything...including break dancing.

Ok lmao, I had to do it. aaaand here comes the million disagrees :)

GreenRingOfLife5176d ago

Project Natal is truly a revolution in gaming, I cannot wait to play it!

Well done Microsoft

captain-obvious5176d ago

lol
and they was saying that the lag on it is minor
a side the slow response (aka lag)
it freezes like 2 times in the vid

fear885176d ago

1. Somewhat accurate but with some serious lag. The motion was less fluid when both legs and arms were moving at the same time with considerable speed.

2. Will we ever see a game other than that breakout demo? I mean if it is that capable I want to see other demos and their performance. The fact that it does lag even in a simple breakout demo I cannot keep my hopes high if at all without some other demo to compare it to.

3. I did see several "Bam. There it is!" moments with that video so again still not fluid.

5176d ago
JeffGUNZ5176d ago

Microsoft already stated last week the natal they demoed was the original E3 tech and they already have the next tech natal working. This is the old natal tech, the newer and less lag is being worked on for release.

menoyou5176d ago

There is definitely some serious lag. This could completely ruin any chance Natal has of being a serious gaming device and might end up being a novelty like the Wii's motion control (which is just waggle in most cases).

Dragun6195176d ago

Does this mean we can expect a Just Dance game coming to Natal?

....That would be pretty lame.

chaosatom5176d ago

aren't impressive. They need some new stuff. I am far from sold.

IdleLeeSiuLung5176d ago

Ahhhh, that looks even better than I thought it would be. Natal translated the motions pretty well except for a slight odd clipping issue when the guy was doing a handstand. None the less AWESOME!!!

I just realized that by running the natal software on the 360, you can devote more processing power to it and reduce lag.

Basically, if your game is lag bound you can reduce it. That wouldn't be an option with a dedicated chip in the camera.

simplyRealistic185176d ago

if i wanted to dance i will play Dance Dance Revolution, stop with this crap let me see hardcore games, what next, it's going to pick up people who masturbates

Rainstorm815176d ago

Dance Hero for natal by activision....watch and see

On topic this wasnt very impressive i hope Sony or Microsoft eventually give me a reason to pick up one of these, i havent seen a reason to buy Natal or "ARC" yet.

5176d ago
captain-obvious5176d ago

@ above
butt hurt much ?
just by looking at 2 of your posts from you history i know that your a 360 fanboy
and don't compare that wii to the PS3 arc and NATAL
why ?
because the wii got it form the get go + out of the box
in here is totally different

anyway
i didn't read that text wall of yours since is all in caps and sound like your in some real bad damage control

thesummerofgeorge5176d ago (Edited 5176d ago )

Were you crying when you wrote that? Christ, grow up.

Gotta laugh at the kids out there that get a hard on over a companies profits, purely because they bought a product from them and all of a sudden they think they own shares in the company. It takes a certain kind of preteen-lonely to regurgitate that kind of BS.

superrey195176d ago

Not only was there lots of lag, if you notice the first few seconds when the dancer and the on screen avatar are both visible, you can see that the avatar doesn't even capture all of the guy's arm movements.

I don't know, while still kind of impressive, it just doesn't seem to have the precision needed for any hardcore games.

Chaos695176d ago

This is awesome, I can see Natal being implemented in game lobbies, like Halo, Call of Duty, Forza, Game room/Home... For the hardcore games I'll stick to my classic controller.

beardpapa5176d ago

Forget the clipping or lag. You guys don't seem to notice that the camera could track his digital (fingers) movements even though his body is in motion? Look at the avatar's hands! It's pretty good!

FOXDIE5176d ago

Nice lag, thats all I have to say!

insomnium5176d ago

I bet youll look JUST like your avatar while playing with Natal.

@moderators

Are you guys blind? Bungie is laughing his ass of on your expense while making multiple accounts and actually using the SAME picture as his avatar on more than one of them. Are you REALLY THIS powerless? Why won't you ip ban this joker?

Bungie5176d ago (Edited 5176d ago )

wow that was messed up

i'm sure it's not the final product , it's all about the games

EDIT: lol people still think i'm green coz of spidy avatar :)

sikbeta5176d ago

The Original E3 Demo was when the Natal-Camera Had the Chip inside and even with the Chip making all the "magic" the thing was laggy, now every Natal-move-process is Done by the x360 CPU, so I can only expect more of the same

Whether you like it or not:

wii-mote = Gimmick
PS-eye = Gimmick
natal = Gimmick

mythamp5175d ago (Edited 5175d ago )

On topic: Natal looks terrible i am afriad, this vid just shows how bad this gimmick is. So much for wii being not upto this gen's expectation, what in the hell is this?

Off topic: N4G needs bungie just like superman needs lex luthor. He is the main attraction for being such a painful distraction. But at the core I feel n4g is paid heavily by MS, I base my conclusion on the topics/articles that get the highest spotlight here, Extremely Positive M$ coverage. Bungie might actually become a thorn for MS/N4G by pushing away future customers with his annoying-ness, I foresee him being put on leash soon with rest of his accounts.

Godmars2905176d ago

But its really something for the forums, not the news page.

Al Bundy5176d ago (Edited 5176d ago )

That was some serious lag there. How can you have a hardcore gaming experience with extreme lag and no buttons? We know how the Xbox user base loves shooters and that much lag makes a shooter unplayable.

feelintheflow5176d ago

Yep, looks like this is the actual one that will be on sale later this year. Yep, he got it out of the box that will be on store shelves later this year. Or maybe the tech demo we saw for the Sony arc is the exact same game that will come out, just stick figures. Get a life.

Biggest5176d ago

Were they break dancing with the Arc in their hands, or are you just sad that Microsoft is showing how bad the Natal does break dancing? Let's make fun of Arc when they try to make it seem better than the crap both movement controllers currently are. Sadly for your 360 lovin' heart, Natal is the one talking a lot.

snipermk05176d ago (Edited 5176d ago )

Oooohh, someone's feeling is hurt. =P

Harry_Manback5176d ago

He asked a question and you give him an idiotic answer and tell him to get a life? Wow, who pissed in your cheerios?

And final build or not, there will be no buttons for the hardcore games. The lag is probably the least of our worries...

AKNAA5176d ago

"Or maybe the tech demo we saw for the Sony arc is the exact same game that will come out, just stick figures. Get a life."

stick figures?! are we talking about the awesome sword and shield tech demo with the arc?? I'll be honest with you, sony could release what they showed at E3, which was perfectly responsive and had graphic equally, er.. no better than natal's demo, sell it and I'd buy it still... why? cause sony PROVED that the arc actually works.

Al Bundy5176d ago

Whoa, easy there fella. Calm down, I didn't mean to hurt your feeling so bad. I just stated the truth. I don't care for motion controls and I'm no fanboy so you taking shots at Sony's Arc does not bother me.

feelintheflow5176d ago

As far as the slap at the arc, it was to prove a point, that what we saw at E3 is not the finished product. I personally can't wait for both peripherals. Is it MS's fault for throwing that same stupid brick breaking demo out there every day? Yep, but this is like the 4th or 5th article in the last week where they show that same build, and a certain group act like that is the final finished product all full of lag. So sure that the lag they see will be exactly what we see when it is finally available to the public. If you can't take criticism from your post, then that is your problem. I have no problem defending what I say. That guy said "lag, blah no buttons, blah" same crud we get from the SDF, and I was pointing out that he has no clue, in a sarcastic way, what the final version of the product will be. Well maybe you all don't understand sarcasm, yeah, thats probably it.

I also am sick of the XDF propping up natal as the end all be all when they have no clue what it will end up being either. To act like you know it will be awesome, or a flop, is typical fanboy drivel. So if you are not a fanboy, I apologize for treating you like one, but if truly think that the final product will be exactly what we saw a year ago, well, then I got nothing for you.

I have a good idea, how about we wait until e3 to make some sort of educated judgement on how the arc or natal will be. Since none of you, nor myself, have played with either, it is an act of futility to comment on it in an educated fashion.

Biggest5176d ago (Edited 5176d ago )

You don't seem to notice what you're doing. I believe it's called deflection. You're annoyed by us laughing at something that is dear to you. So you try to point out something that you feel is equally hurtful. Truth is, it isn't. I don't want either one no matter how not horrible they may become. By the way. . . Try to deflect with something on equal terms. Right now you're saying "Yeah but, look at how crappy that thing from last year is" when we're laughing at something from last week.
And for your other point/s: I CAN talk about this type of thing being a flop. Well, a better word would be crap. It may not flop. It was on late-night tv already. People may actually buy it. But it will be crap. It will contain crap. How do I know? Someone else has already tried it. Now they're trying it another way. All of these strange ways of play that people are talking about are just that. Strange. Did you ever think about why most people play video games to the point of posting in threads like this? Because they probably suck at the physical stuff. I wonder how many people here are active in a pro/semi-pro sport. I would think none. I wonder how many people in the world, aside from pro athletes (and not even all of them), can sustain total or partial body movement in a game that requires precision and attention for long periods of time. The answer is none. Go pick up and yard stick right now and pretend it's a rifle. Hold it as you would at the ready for 15 minutes. You're going to hate it. I use that physical example because I know a bit about it. Just the yard stick was over 9 pounds. So what are we left with? A gimmick that has already been tried. Which sucks and is crap. Sorry. You can always blame Sony developers for not being able to come up with games for it. But given the track records of the competing teams for each platform, I'd venture to say that if Sony hasn't been able to do it then Microsoft won't be able to find someone to pay to do it either.

feelintheflow5176d ago

you still fail to grasp what I was talking about. Not deflection. Deflection would be me trying to change the subject, my point was to say that you can't judge natal, since all that is out there right now, is the e3 demo, just like you can't say that the same thing that happened at e3 last year with the arc is what will come out. What you don't seem to understand is that the demo that is still floating around for Natal, is the same e3 build. Is that stupid, yep, but thats what it is, including the video made a week ago, it was using the same build/hardware from E3 last year. MS already said that is what has been making the rounds and the new updated hardware/software will be shown at a later date. Is it a lie, who knows, thats why I don't make judgments on something I haven't played yet. That is why I wasn't judging the arc, I was pointing out that what you saw last year is not what you will see when it is released. It doesn't surprise me that most of the children on this site took it as a slap at Sony, that is what always happens when they don't have anything rational to say. "They just say, you love it and we laughed cuz you love it and it sucks". I didn't know I was talking to people who work in the industry and have played the final version of Natal, or Arc, or whatever they will call both of those things.

Take a look at my past posts and you will see, I have never claimed that I love Natal, do I look forward to the possibilities, yep, do I waste my time arguing with guys like you who have no clue what Natal will be, but summarily call it crap? Yep, I do. Not sure why. Could be cuz I am board. So pay attention to what I said if you are going to try and call me out on it. But I know, we live in cyber world where a guy like you can yammer on about how I am deflecting and blah blah blah, with no real world repercussions. My past posts, if you took the time to look at them, would show you that I have fun poking fun at people who are closed minded about one company or the other. I actually enjoy all three consoles. I am enjoying Heavy Rain, but once again, you would know that if you took the time to look into who you are trying to argue with. But I know, thats logical, and you probably will say, "why do I care about your past posts", and your right you don't need to care, although it would show a touch of maturity on your part to delve into the mind of the person you are trying to bash, when you have no idea what he or she is truly trying to say.

Kinect Technical Specifications & Xbox 360 Requirements Revealed

The most notable reveal would perhaps by the requirements of the Xbox 360 console itself. While Microsoft has insisted since the original unveiling of Kinect at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) in 2009, then known as Project NATAL, that the device would be compatible with all Xbox 360 consoles, the revelation of a dedicated port included on the newly redesigned Xbox 360 model has sparked rumours of incompatibility, which were quickly debunked.

odd, i was led to believe it lacked an internal processor and so also needed a core to itself, if not 1-2 processing threads.

Wikkid6665054d ago

The article says nothing about whether the processor is internal or it uses the 360s.

darthv725053d ago

Also, the notion of a dedicated port really lends nothing to the idea of older units being incompatible. I believe the kinect port is a custom usb port (think the original xbox controller ports) but one that will feed power and data.

Older models will require a splitter that will run off a single usb port (prob the back one) that will work for the data but not the power. That is why they keep saying it will have an external power for those systems.

As for the processor, combo of both makes sense. Using 360 cpu/gpu power to help calculate the finished product on screen along with the cpu in the kinect.

Remember people...this is not a cheap usb web cam (like the original live vision).

Inside_out5054d ago (Edited 5054d ago )

They say they are using 10-15% of one 360 P4 cores. I know that the Kinect we see today is a watered down version of the patented tech they bought and own. Maybe one day the " real " tech will be cost effective. It still is very impressive tech even without a super computer running it.

wicked5054d ago

No, the previous artical said they removed a processor, but I would guess that it had more than 1 to start with. So it will have some form of processor still within it. Arm9 or Cortex M3, all dirt cheap now but powerful.

IdleLeeSiuLung5054d ago

Does it matter? They showed Forza Kinect that looked amazing working with Kinect real time!

callahan095054d ago

Are you just talking about how the graphics are able to look amazing while working with Kinect? If that's what you're talking about, ok. The game itself, though, well... I think I'll stick with the real Forza, with an Xbox 360 control pad. The limited-control Kinect Forza they showed doesn't look like it's worth any attention, in my opinion. Why would anyone want to control a car like that, with hands held out and holding onto nothing, with no control over acceleration or braking? Just seems totally pointless to me.

CrawFail5053d ago

lol real time? I don't quite think it was real time.

Bigpappy5053d ago

You guy know that the motion tech is from prime sense right? Please go to their web site primesense.com,and have a look at what they say the tech can do. It can read fingers well enough to type with each finger and can be used while sitting. No one ever said it has to scan the entire body to work. What we have seen from kinect so far is not all it is capable of.

Reading these specs and trying to compare them to PSeye is pointless, because they are different types of cameras and provide completely differnt types of info to the consoles (Kinect is a 3D camera and provides 3D images. PSeye is a 2D camera and provides 2D images). Per Primsense, the camera is capable of providing video at 60fps, but the 3D is 30fps. The specs for 2 players active is for full body scans. There are no specs given for people sitting and just using their hands.

This tech is obviously a work in progress and has yet to be fleshed out. I suggest all you N4G Kinect experts, research before you post you doom and gloom so you atleast have solid facts for you skepticism. You can also relax and see what M$ does with the tech insteat of pretending to know more that the people developing the tech.

IdleLeeSiuLung5052d ago

The game was available for people to try on the show floor at E3 so yes it was real time. Wetter you like it for Forza or not wasn't my point.

That is up to the developer to figure out.

Apolloeye5054d ago

So pretty much the same spec as the PS Eye, although I thought the eye went up to 120 Hertz...

Theonik5054d ago

The eye goes to 60Hz i think. Regardless the eye should be capable to do any Kinect shown so far with less lag. (they revolve on a 2D axis and only use the depth tracking to separate players.) I am really disappointed by the tech and how it is utilised thus far.

shoddy5053d ago

More or less powerful we need to see the product.
So far it seem the pseye can do anything kinect can do.
2d 3d I not yet see the advantage.

IHateYouFanboys5053d ago

no, the PSEye cannot do 3D tracking. Kinect can.

the PSEye does 2D motion recognition, Kinect does 3D motion tracking. they are COMPLETELY DIFFERENT things.

Sheikh Yerbouti5053d ago

Going from alkaline to lithium was a significant step for batteries, but at the end of the day it is just a battery. PSEye and Kinect are kind of the same way. At the end of the day it is a game camera - with camera games.

IHateYouFanboys5053d ago

@Sheikh Yerbouti: your example is not really on the same scale of difference as PSEye/Kinect.

a better example using batteries would be the jump from standard batteries to rechargable batteries. theyre both doing the same thing - being batteries - but one of them does things that the other one cannot possibly do, which is be recharged and used again. it does everything the standard battery does, and more.

Kinect does everything the PSEye does (2D motion recognition), and more (3D motion tracking). no amount of software updates can change the hardware in the PSEye, and the hardware is not capable of 3D motion tracking as it lacks infra-red.

IaMs125053d ago

Yes i see your point but how you guys feel about the PS3 can be said the same way.

The PS3 may produce better graphics and be more powerful then the Xbox360, but by the end of they day its still only a console. Also inferior to PC :)

PirosThe4th5053d ago

... PSeye can do 3d as you say... even eyetoy... they used shadows and other stuff to recognize it.
Move is also 3d...

Sheikh Yerbouti5053d ago

Lithium batteries are rechargeable batteries.

Kinect isn't a true 3D camera - it can't render a picture of your butt if you are always facing front. It makes an approximate 3D model using visual cues. The PSEye can do the same, although it will be cruder.

Plus, just because the technology is different, doesn't necessarily mean gameplay will be.

@lams12
Yes, you're right. Similarly Kinect will have some good games, different from PSEye, only if Microsoft makes them. But they haven't made games too different from the PSEye.

Theonik5053d ago

Which is what i meant from the start. None of the games they have shown so far could not have been on the PS Eye.

Love that you're quoting something and you're getting disagrees.

Sheikh Yerbouti5053d ago (Edited 5053d ago )

Only room for two anyway when you think about it...
but it can keep track of six people during a game in regards to facial recognition. I think that's impressive.

I would love to have Kinect built into my laptop, so only I can get in even without a password. Why is Microsoft wasting this on the XBox again?

Ilikegames765053d ago

still couldn't play it sitting down. Honestly, some guys are so easily impressed by copy cat technology.

blackpanther255053d ago

i was at the engadget show and kudo showed its 3d tracking and when two people where on screen......one person would be red while the other would be green.......but as soon as a third person steped into the camera view two people automatically turned gray and it couldnt read their movements well.

what i took away from that event is that the kinect is pretty kool but for right now it can only work with two people(they could still be working on it)

Hey Microsoft, Where Are The Core Games For Kinect?

Meodia writes, "So about a year ago when Project Natal was first starting off, many Xbox 360 and even other gamers were worried about the future of their console. A local shovelware dumping ground didn't sound quite appealing and Natal looked like it would serve extra servings of it. But Microsoft reassured us, holding our hands and telling us that everything would be alright. Since then, nothing has changed. After that "conference" at E3, we were shown nothing but how to please little girls."

Obviously Kinect is a casual device designed for those gamers first and foremost and that is the message MS wanted to send at E3 much to the angst of the core. And they have been saying all year that is what to expect.

I am going to give it some time because I don't think MS are going to ignore their core for long. And in the mean time enjoy my controller on games like Gears 3, Reach, Fable 3, Kingdoms, Black Ops, etc etc on the 360.. Not even going to mention my plate for the other systems I own.. Imperator5065d ago (Edited 5065d ago )

Child of Eden is a multiplat, and do you have any gameplay vids of Sonic (I honestly want to see how it works).

@Orange Juice, Ah, I see. Looks kinda simple though. wouldn't really call it a core game.

@Arnon, if that's the case then Kinect really does have the edge in that game... but that's just one game. MS needs to show a LOT more.
