Rumor: Leaked Sonic 4 images show old school Robotnik

Destructoid: According to a number of reports, what you are looking at are some screenshots of Sonic 4 leaked from PartnerNET and yes, that IS Dr. Robotnik in a very old school boss battle you're seeing. The new images, which we are waiting for Sega to verify, show off scenes from the leaked game footage we saw a while back. I don't care what anybody else things, this stuff looks damn hot.

This game is gonna be awesome. This time, I really feel they've got it right. The only gripe I have left is the movement of sonic. From videos i've seen, the animation looks a little slow compared to the originals and sonic seems more floaty when he jumps. But whatever. I cannot wait to hear the music. I've been listening to the old sonic music lately and its some of the best game music ever. Can't wait.

After Michael Jackson's death someone who worked on the music for Sonic 3 confirmed MJ did some of the tracks. For whatever reason he didn't want it on there (he guessed low sound quality and fidelity of the Genesis). Some of the chords in the sonic 3 tracks ended up in Stranger in Moscow I guess.

What kind of an idiot was that? Jackson was okay with Moonwalker being exclusive to the Genesis (+ Game Gear and Master System) but not putting his name on Sonic because it was on the Genesis? That makes no sense.

I'm with ShadowFlare on this one; I can't wait for this one. The last best Sonic game was Sonic & Knuckles the divided part of Sonic 3, which was equally awesome. Sonic worked in 3D for a short time in the Sonic Adventure games, but since then the series has been a mess. As a man who started on the Genesis before the SNES, I'm really looking forward to this one.

I'm a huge Sonic fan, but I hope they have more than old rehashed bosses/badniks. I guess it's ok if Episode 1 is all rehash, but Episode 2 better have new stuff. This boss is sooooo easy, I've played him in Sonic 1 millions of times and in this game it will offer no challenge.

I will be very annoyed if they don't split the regions and call Robotnik his real namesake. I'm NOT being forced to have 'Eggman' too.
I will specifically ask for a patch just for Sega to correct all the text/pixels which say 'Eggman' to 'Robotnik'.

He was Dr Kintobor, a kind doctor who was mutated by an egg, the chaos emeralds and the rings. That's what Ladybird books told me little over a decade ago anyway.

I remember when Sonic first called him Dr.Eggman in Sonic Adventure 1. The mad scientist corrected him saying that his name was Robotnik though somehow in Sonic The Hedgehog 2006 (atrocious). The scientist introduces himself as Dr.Eggman so that shows the difference between a good Sonic game and a bad one.

in the Sky sanctuary zone, only this time it was Metal Sonic piloting Robotniks hovercraft looking machine.

Sonic & Knuckles still managed to be an amazing game despite of this.

So i'm very confident that Sonic 4 will be another classic 2D Sonic game.

I agree. This Game will be amazing! They finally got it! Even though I do hope they have NEW boss types, this will be an awesome throwback. Is this the TRUE Sonic 4? Maybe not after seeing the level select screen and this boss but i'm still exited

wow that looks really great! I didn't know about any leaked footage, I'm out of the loop I suppose. Looks good though, looks like Sonic. Which I'm pretty sure is what everyone's been wanting and asking for. Thank you Sega, Sonic needs to stay 2D.

What's wrong with robotnik being called Eggman? He got a EGG Shape and he was called that for long. That's not any different than Bowser being King Koopa. I've been playing sonic since the 1st game and I never felt like they were effin up my ChildHood by calling him Eggman.

What's so old school about Robotnik (besides the reiteration of the original boss fight)? He looks just like he does in Sonic Adventure (so does Sonic). Honestly, Sega should have just called this Sonic Advance 4 or Sonic Rush 3 because that's what it seems to be so far (and because the same morons are developing it).

Also, 2D sprites would have been a better choice for Sonic due to how colorful and surreal the past level design was. Heck, if they were going to make the game 3D at all they should have made the whole environment 3D instead of just the character models (the Hedgehog Engine looks fantastic; but I guess this title is too low budget for something like that).

It looks trashy and inconsistent as it is. The only part of the art that I like even remotely are the clouds in the background. The foreground looks like it was made in photoshop in five minutes. The trees look plastic-like as if they were rendered in 3D and then pasted onto the map (and they aren't even cel-shaded like the badniks and characters!). The rocks look sharp and edgy but lack the plastic-like effect that the trees have so it makes them stick out like a sore thumb. The characters are rotated at an angle even though the view is supposed to be in 2D.

Hopefully, Sega invests enough cash into their next Sonic game so that it actually hurts them. I want to see them burn for insulting the loyal fanbase throughout these years (this game, or "Sonic 4" is the worse aggressor of them all).

I'm not a fan of these images, and if are what to be expected I'm not sure its something I would play, purely because I was expecting something along the style of the past games on the sega which would have been fantastic.

You know, really going to its roots when sonic games were good in their simplest form.

As it is, some elements on the screenshots just don't look right. Its gone from a day 1 buy to wait and see what else surfaces.

maybe we can get R-TYPE 5 , GRADIUS 6 now on ps3 with better graphics

There's going old school and then there's just completely rehashing what you have done in the past. The move to 2D I agree with but if you do that then make is the best 2D you can.

Did anyone else enjoy Sonic Adventure 2 Battle for the Gamecube. That was a good sonic 3D title, unlike the others..I was hoping they'd make a sequel along those lines.

As a true sonic fan,I can admitthe sonic adventure games were some of the best, and in order to progress as a character, sonic needs 3D, not 2D games. Sega just can't please some people, they b!tch and moan about 3D games, then they b!tch and moan about 2D games before they even release. What is so wrong with the name Eggman? What is so wrong with the art style of sonic 4? and when will you whining babies ever be satisfied?

I enjoyed Sonic and the Blackknight, I love the Sonic Rush games, Sonic Chronicles was awesome, and Unleashed was solid as was Secret Rings.

Sonic never stopped giving me what I want: a decent story (for a kids game), Speed, crazy acrobatics, smack talking, Super Sonic, and Awesome music. So what the heck is everyone's problem? I swear I wish there was a dreamcast 2, cause at least then the real sonic fans would get what they want, and don't have to worry about nagging people who never liked him in the first place, who are just waiting for something to complain about.
