Sega: All-Stars Racing Better Than Mario Kart

CC: Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing isn't the most anticipated title of all time, but producer Omar Woodley believes the title offers a better experience than the world-renowned Mario Kart.

Yeah, I'll have to see it first

mjolliffe5178d ago

What I've seen is brilliant. Plus its beautiful to look at XD

Rikitatsu5178d ago

I cannot see why it WOULDN'T be better than Mario Kart.

xskipperx825177d ago

I played the demo and this game is 6/10 at best. CONSTANT framerate issues and boring weapons. fail

Yi-Long5177d ago

... and play F-Zero GX again. Now THAT was an amazing SEGA racing game!

Commander TK5177d ago

ModNation Racers wants a word.

Sarcasm5177d ago

I think SEGA is missing the point. The reason people like Mario Kart because it has... *Gasp* Mario in it!

Baka-akaB5177d ago

Hardly , quite a few people can't stand mario , myself included .

I buy Mario Kart because it's a high quality arcade racer that didnt forget it's arcade and fun (looking at you NFS and ridge racer) .

An highly competitive title that is simple to enjoy , yet not always so simple to truly master .

Same goes with Smash bros Brawl .

Some of us buy mario kart regardless of graphical style and characters , because you wont find the same thing anywhere else , except maybe Wipeout ... and once everywhile a good clone (like crash team racing used to be , well for one game) .

SilverSlug5177d ago

and bringing up Mod Nation Racers?

Epic fail. Sorry.

darthv725177d ago (Edited 5177d ago )

it offers some system specific racers like banjo for the 360 as well as avatars. Wii seems to have Mii's but I have not heard if there are other guest racers like mario or any of the others.

This game is also on ps3 but there has been no word of guest racers on that. Be cool if there was rachet/clank or ...?

I have only played the demo on 360 and i dl the demo for ds but my kids turned it off to play another game before I could try it. I will just dl it again.

Better than mario kart....i don't know about that. MK is just about one thing: FUN! This racer is better looking but the fun factor will be put under the microscope when i get it.

I've played the demo and it's not better than Mario Kart at all. Even ModNation Racers is better than Sonic & Sega All-Stars Milkathon. I expect this game to go down in price quick just like Sega Superstars Tennis did. This is a bargain bin game.

crck5177d ago (Edited 5177d ago )

It wouldn't be hard to offer a better single player experience than Mario Kart Wii. Nintendo drained the game of just about any skill requirement. What use to be around a 50%/50% split between skill and luck is more like 20%/80% split in that game. BTW there was nothing fundamentally wrong with Sonic Tennis. It was just too shallow. If they added some depth and removed the mandatory pause in gameplay for power moves a sequel would be a fine tennis game.

hatchimatchi5177d ago

Ditto.

I hate what nintendo did with mario kart wii. Easily the worse game in the series.

Wh15ky5177d ago

No way are these clones better than the original.

And anybody banging on about the amount of luck in Mario Kart is just crap at Mario Kart. Sure your going to get struck by lightning ocassionally and hit by the blue shell every now and again, but if you're good enough you'll still pull it back and win.

I don't have a Wii anymore but my sister does and when I visit her it's always the first game I make her put on. I've spent many hours playing split screen with her, her fiance, my brother, his wife and their mates and they have never beat me, none of them, not one. Skill outweighs luck in Mario Kart, no doubt about it.

Motion5177d ago

You should check out ModNation Racers. It honestly looks like it could out-do mario cart pretty easily. And has a track editor :)

Wh15ky5177d ago

I downloaded the Mod Nation Racers Beta and played it quite a bit. Very good fun and the track editor is far more intuitive than Little Big Planets level editor, I could certainly get hours of play from that so I will be getting Mod Nation.
The controls were still not as tight as Mario Kart though. I want to see the sixaxis as a control option for Mod Nation as I prefer using the wheel for Mario Kart Wii and would like to see how the two compare.

crck5177d ago (Edited 5177d ago )

@1.5 I said SINGLE player, not playing against other people. Coming in 1st in single player is based on luck no matter how good you are. I've been playing Mario Kart since the first game on the SNES and I know what I'm doing so your comment about people complaining about Mario Kart Wii is rubbish.

You can run a track perfectly on a technical basis and still come in 10th place. Why? Because if you get hit with a blue shell. You are likely to get hit a 2nd or 3rd time or be knocked off the track entirely before you can even move again. The biggest mistake by Nintendo was raising the racer number to 12. It causes too much item congestion with stuff flying around all the time. Add that to the cheap rubberband AI and you can't get a big enough lead to compensation for being hit multiple times before you gain control again.

BTW your blanket statement about a clone never being better then the original is just stupid. If that's the case why aren't you still playing Doom or Wolfenstein?

Wh15ky5177d ago

I said "THESE games better than THE original" refering specifically to the games being discussed - sega all stars racing, modnation racers and mario kart, I assumed that would have been easy enough to understand. Mario kart has continued to dominate the kart racing genre throughout each gen since the snes days, where as the FPS genre has evolved a fair bit since the days of doom and the original wolfenstien so I'm afraid it is you sir who is coming it with the blanket statement.
And who plays mario kart for the single player mode anyway, where's the fun in that? Also there are AI opponents in split screen anyway so what does it matter? I played through the single player once to unlock all the tracks and classes other than that whats the point? the online modes and time trials are far more entertaining when playing on your own.

My favorite Mario Kart and tied for my favorite cart game along with Crash Team Racing.

ThatArtGuy5177d ago

the original CTR! It was right up there with the original SNES Mario Kart. It absolutely destroyed the N64 Mario Kart. I never did play the PS2 CTR. Is it any good?

kevco335177d ago

I'll give it a fair shot, but I'm not holding my breath...

SpaceSquirrel5177d ago

Although the demo is fun, I doubt it.

Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed Gets New Yogcast DLC, Poll Winner Still Missing

Over a year ago SART developer Sumo Digital held a poll of which Sega character fans wanted them to add as a racer. Today marks the launch of a new paid DLC character... but he was definitely not on that poll.

What a douche move

You know what to do though, when they announce the sequel...don't buy it

GSKerns3796d ago

It's funny that Transformed in itself is already a sequel and one of the DLC characters from the poll is Ryo from Shenmue... who was already playable in the first game. All they would have had to do is add in a transformation move for him.

-Foxtrot3796d ago

Lazyness at it's finest

Games are supposed to add onto the last game, not remove things.

Nintendo do this with Mario Kart, they remove characters and you never see them again.

Sonic All-Stars Racing Transformed PS3 Review by GES

PASS ME IF YOU DARE, I HAVE A SWARM OF BEES AND I’M NOT AFRAID TO USE IT!

Sonic reprises his role in this racing game as the super-fast blue hedgehog, however this time you need to prove how fast your vehicle is instead of how fast your feet are. The concept of the game is kept very simple and by doing this makes it fun and easy for the kids to play too. There is a character selection of 20 different characters from Sega’s long running line of superstars including some rather long time forgotten or little know characters. The character roster of course comprises 7 of the most well know characters from the Sega franchise including obviously Sonic, Tails and The villainous Dr. Egghead as well as a few others that I feel could have been left out to include some other know names from different Sega franchises.
