SEGA: "Aliens vs Predator the fastest selling game of the year"

SEGA of Europe have just tweeted that Aliens vs. Predator is the fastest selling game of the year, in the UK. This means it beat heavy weight titles like Mass Effect and even their very own Bayonetta

I luv the alien vs. predator concept and all, but when I seen that its now a FPS, it completely turned me off...
I personally liked the arcade version back in the days where it was like a final fight/ streets of rage type of game.

This game is awesome. It is not your average fps, this is true. It is a movie based video game. It just so happens to be that it is based on the Alien thru AVP2 universe. Everything is spot on from the sounds of the weapons and creatures to the look of the maps and character models. I'm enjoying the graphical style of this game. It may not be your standard Uncharted or Mass Effect level of graphics, but who said it had to be. Diversity of video games. BTW I love sticking my alien tail thru a marines back and watching the tail come out of his mouth, nothing more satisfying and brutal.

Most complaints I have seen for this game being unbalanced are just stupid. First of all, expecting a marine to be balanced to an alien or predator, Have you seen the movies? Marines always die, well most of the time. This is why the marine is considered the weaker choice. I read some complaints about the alien being hard to use. Well duh, he can climb walls and you get disoriented. This is not a game you crack the box open and know how to instantly play.

@Perjoss is right. Games do generally sell better on the 360. Go look up the numbers if you disagree. I own both systems and I play more 360 games. I plan on buying Heavy Rain and God of War 3, all I'm trying to do is to get people to stop listening to every kid on here claiming this game is garbage when it simply isn't.

A "gamer" plays games because they like them. Not because it has better graphics than this other one. You guys can keep hating on the game while I keep enjoying every minute of it. It's your loss.

If this were any other game, I'd agree with your brainwashed fans of shooters comment.

However, this is one of those games that actually tries to be different from the rest of them. Whether or not it succeeded in the end graphics-wise, sales-wise, review-wise, or just as a good game, at least it is different from most FP games out there. I mean, it's no Mirror's Edge or (original) Chronicles of Riddick for innovation in a oversaturated genre, but it could've very easily been a lot more clone-like.

Maybe AVP2 will be better?

I'm not ashamed, I bought it it's not great but and this is a big but. I am so sick of reviews, I am choosing my own games these days on what I see in footage and word of mouth from my fellow gamers. There are too many websites and publications trying to make a name for themselves these days by dishing out harsh or undeserved scores.

This is just something to try before i swap it for heavy rain.

Guys, the reason this is selling so well is mainly because of the reputation of AVP2 on PC, which happened to be in my opinion one of the BEST fps games ever made, both single-player and multiplayer. Nearly EVERY person I know from that game bought the new one.

Alien and Aliens were great movies and many of those buying this game are more than likely big fans of the movies. If ME had the same fanbase, it too would have sold as well.

Uncharted doesnt have the fan base as the alien and predator movies combined does it not deserve to sell? Fact is ME series is better than every alien or predator game to grace consoles.

AVP doesnt belong in the same sentence as ME2 or U2 or any other great game.

AVP was hot when released in 99, unfortunatly the new AVP game looks and feels 11 years old.

What are you talking about? ME and ME2 have sold amazingly well, that I am not disagreeing with but you need to remember that the Alien franchise is huge and has sold tons of copies. For that I say they have a huge fanbase. And if you might already know, these games on that franchise are not movie games but games representing the characters, locations and other assets but not the over all story. A movie game is typically released around the time the movie is and these are just games published to hit up the fans of the Alien franchise. They are branching out the theme, not representing a movie perse. What the heck would you call me a fanboy for just acknowledging that the Alien franchise is huge?

I mean maybe a lot of people like it but I think a lot of its popularity is based on the movie franchises and not the quality of the game.

Most people play FPSs and the reason they're so popular is because they bring instant gratification. Games like ME2 or heavy rain are games in which you're going to have to work a little more or wait a little longer before some type of satisfaction for your work sets in. I would rather pull headshots off in Gears than talking for an hour with a NPC. This is the reason I stopped playing Demon Souls when I got a taste of Borderlands.

Being a great game and just plain selling to a huge fanbase are different, I do agree there. I was not saying that Aliens or any game of that franchise is better than ME, in fact, I would never say that as I am a fan of the ME series. All I was saying is that with as large as the fanbase is for the Alien games and movies, it is simply expected that it will sell well. Good game, bad game, it's not the content but the fanbase that I was simply talking about.

Why are you trying to sell your opinion as fact? In general movie titles are awful. But if you have played the previous Alien vs Predator shooters, than you would know why people are buying this one. It has the 1999 games developers and a melee combat system like Zeno Clash. I know in my head that I would rather play this any day instead of Heavy Rain. I don't enjoy quicktime events or long drawn out conversations with people who arent real. But I do enjoy the thrill of encountering a Predator on the battle field and barely being the victor.

Don't mean to offend you or anything but you shouldn't be trashing a game that people will obviouosly enjoy (and others not)

That is sad, I have ME2 and AVP, ME2 is a 10/10, AVP is a 6-7/10 at most, I finished it in just over 1 day of casual play...hardly value for money, my aliens and predator nerd fantasy was fulfilled, although barely, and now it shall stay on the bottom of my other far better recent purchases.

AVP is okay from a point where i need my shooting down alien fix(im one of the only few who bought it just to be a colonnial marine again :P), but it is no way near polished and optimized to be a total selling machine, in fact I would say it is much more poorer than the original AVP and AVP2 on pc a few years back. But oh well, good on them i guess, sometimes you can strike it lucky!

I'll admit that AvP is mediocre at best, but Heavy Rain has got to be the most over rated pile of trash ever. It's barely a game, it's Simon Says with a story. And yes, I have a PS3, and yes, Ive played the demo.

I've had the game since the 18th, and am still yet to play it thanks to Steam. What with numerous crashes during installation, problems signing in and the then having to download an update of unknown size that will take days seeing as I'm still on dial up.

I guess some here will see me as being lucky, with Steam actually saving me from the games awfulness, but I just want to play my f*cking game already!

Ign gave it a 7, Ign UK 8.5, even psm in australia gave it a 9 so please, learn about a game before calling it absolute sh!t, and learn to love old school shooters, if it weren't for them you wouldn't have the mw you all seem to love

People if you play the game and pay attention when you use the Alien you have a damn arrow right in the middle of the screen and right in front of your nose that shows you where the ground is.

I don't have many"real life" friends on my psn friends list, mostly have anyone that wanted me to ADD them, so I did. So, when I compare trophies I have noticed something very disturbing in the "gaming" community! I have most of the SONY first party blockbusters i.e. r1+2, KZ2, demons souls, motorstorm1+2, gtp, mgs4, uc2 etc.. well most on my "friends" list dont have these games at all! And they are level 5-12 in trophies! What are they playing to get so many trophies? Games like AvsP!.. I have seen people with 30+ games on their list and no sony first party games at all! so this news doesn't surprise me really!

Amen brotha, preach it!!!!! To the infant that is crying about he cant get the ps3 demo to even work. That was because last week they put out a new different demo that fixes all the problems they had with the previous one. You would have to redownload it and scrap the first one. New one worked great! So agree with you VanHalen. Its the most fun ive had with an online game in years! The children in here so frikin clueless. They are just stuck to military first person shooters. Its all they know and its all they play! I play a bit of everything as long as its a good game and AVP is frikin amazing!

I was on the fence about AVP and it is OK at best but not worth my cash.
The graphics look like DOOM 3 and the animation is clunky. I don't see anything in this game that says

Bought the game last weekend and can't really comment on it yet. I've played about 30 mins, but that was me starting and then restarting the first Marine level after getting killed repeatedly by the first alien on the Nightmare difficulty...
