Sonic 3 Level Designer Is Working On Sonic 4

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 (& Knuckles) are pretty much held up as the best 2D Sonic game ever, which may read that as just "best Sonic game ever" but that's beside the point. Sonic 3 combined Speed, platforming, puzzles and a constantly changing beautiful scenery; that would make gamers weep if they weren't destroying badniks.

I'll have to say that Sonic CD was the best Sonic game ever developed. That being said, I'm glad the original designers are working on this property. Lord knows Sonic's suffered a lot in the 3D realm. Maybe he can be saved by going back to the 2D realm. I hope they have the same great music and sound that was found in Sonic CD.

You definitely beat me to it. Sonic CD is by far my favorite Sonic game of all time. It was frenetic, and the music was amazing.

sonic cd is my favorite one, but what sonic and knuckles game did was cool :) being able to play knuckles in sonic 2 and 3 :D

.. but for me, Sonic 3 wasn't all that good. It just kinda lacked the feel, look and speed of Sonic 1 (great!) and Sonic 2 (the greatest).

Sonic 3 felt more like any other platformer at the time, set on a strange planet. I don't know, but it just didn't feel like Sonic anymore, I'm very sad to say (imagine my disappointment as a kid who just paid full-price for that) :(

For me, Sonic 1, Sonic 2 and Sonic CD are what Sonic is all about. Sonic 3 was kinda the beginning of the end. Still a good game, but it just kinda missed that whole 'Sonic' vibe and feel.

I agree Yi-Long. Sonic 3 had too many slow, tedious platforming sections, whereas Sonic 2 was fast paced from beginning to end. Another thing I liked about the level design was the sheer number of routes and secret areas that you just don't find in modern games.

Sonic 2 is slower than Sonic 3. The last 4 stages are all about jumping between platforms and not a loopty-loop in sight.
Hill Top Zone (one fast part i can think of)
Mystic Cave Zone
Oil Ocean Zone
Metropolis Zone
Extremely tedious stages.

Sonic 1 had just Sonic, Sonic 2 had Sonic and Tails following you, Sonic 3 you played just Sonic but had more power ups than just the bubble that let u take an extra hit, and had knuckles show up every now and then

Needless to say this is one game I can't wait to see how it turns out. Can't wait to get my hands on it. Been far too long since a good Sonic game came out.

Now if I can just get a good Mega Man game in the style of the MMX series I'd be perfectly off.

Beautifully designed levels sound excellent! Now if they could just fix that horrid model of Sonic that we saw in the trailer and leaked gameplay video... bring back the sprites!

sonic 3 wasn't bad at all, just changed the paced of the game. speed was the thing that really killed sonic. developers would othen have to make up in areas * slow the pace down* to full up the levels.... which you get games like sonic unleashed....lol but i'm very excited about this !!! GO SONIC

ill be picking it up, if its the right price, 9.99 sounds about right maybe even 12.99, not paying more then that,

throw in a sonic spinball add-on, and some 50 cent colour variations of sonic, {red, green gold} etc, and then a ten player online race {specially designed levels of course}
