PSInsider - White Knight Chronicles review

The review basically covers a few highlights and opinions that will be in the full video review; coming shortly.

Opening Paragraph: "White Knight Chronicles is a great game. The single player sometimes feel a bit more tedious than difficult, but there is plenty to explore. The story is entertaining and has a variety of twists and a moderate amount of predictability. Many of the cutscenes are very long, but the effects that go into some of them are truly amazing and definitely worth watching. The online ties right into the single player campaign. It uses the single player maps and all items you that collect or create in either place(mp/sp) is a marketable good. It grants the game the advanatage of long term replayability."

124 hours into the game now. Online is so different from the single player. Monster Hunter + FF 12 combination.

I can't fricking wait for White Knight Chronicles 2.

Myst5181d ago

Same can't wait for the 2nd, though primarily to know more about the story than anything else.

I should probably get my GR up a bit more as well as my levels...

D3adcell5181d ago

I am going to have to get this, the online seems really cool and unique.

ClownBelt5181d ago

Currently GR 9 with 1 rebirth and farming elementals for some Cracked bust in order to make Spirit Sword. I think my town level is 4 or 5.

Coded-Dude5181d ago (Edited 5181d ago )

Indeed the story is good. I can't wait to get dug into the online part a little more. I've barely scratched the surface....

GR - 2 or 3
Town level - 4 or 5

FamilyGuy5181d ago (Edited 5181d ago )

The more I get into this game the more I'm liking it and my opinion of it is only going up.

After watching this... I don't know what it is, a trailer or commercial or something. http://www.youtube.com/watc... After watching it and getting back online and playing I feel like this is currently the PS3s Monster Hunter.

Real-time, action rpg, huge swords, great level system; combo creation and armor making that's visible in battle, large monsters and co-op play?
Yeah, it's friggin Monster Hunter on PS3 and people really need to check it out.

Redempteur5181d ago

i agree

questing with 3 other people is really fun
and the graphics are good
definitly a good game ..and i can't wait for the sequel

AridSpider5181d ago

hatchimatchi5181d ago

I love this game, I haven't done much online but I really enjoy the single player campaign.

Coded-Dude5181d ago

I thought the storyline was excellent....the boss battles were okay, and the knight's combat system was a little disappointing. Other than that, I LOVE IT!

Myst5181d ago

After a while I forgot to mention something that kept me from playing this game anymore. The freezing issues, now I have stated this on the GeoNet message boards but it seems when playing through the storyline whenever I tried to open the map the game would freeze. This happened again last night in the plains, and a while ago on the last dungeon. Honestly it's a fun game I'd play it more, just need a patch for that...

D3adcell5181d ago

Is the freezing something that is an issue for everyone or just happening to you? Could it be your PS3?

Redempteur5181d ago

my game doesn't freeze when i use the full map on the story mode ...
i'm pretty sre this bugs isn't widespread .

BUt if the users that got it report it then it might get patched at some point ...

AS long as it's not a bug that prevent you from finishing the game ...it's not that ad given that the game was built with patches and dlcs in mind

JasonXE5181d ago

froze on me a few times too

AridSpider5181d ago

might wanna return and get a new copy?

Blaze9295181d ago

yeah try exchanging for a new copy if warranty isnt up

Myst5180d ago

Thanks guys late response and all went to an Anime+Gaming Convention thingy. Yeah I'll see if it's possible. I've still got the recipt thankfully and I'll just go to GS tomorrow and exchange it. If this does fix the problem I can finally play without worry of opening the map.

I hope this one was better then the last one. It wasn't that bad of a game, but i kind of had high hopes

Misterhbk4608d ago

I picked it up and I'm loving it so far. Haven't gone online yet though. Then again, I was a fa of the first despite what reviewers and others said so my opinion may not be the best to judge off of for you, since you didn't like the first.

gameguidedog4608d ago

It's pretty damn cool actually, plus it comes with most of the first one anyway. :)

JerryMatters4608d ago

scepter4608d ago

White Knight Chronicles 2 Developer Interview (COIN-OP TV)

COIN-OP TV interview with Miki Takahashi one of the Producers on White Knight Chronicles II. This interview explores the differences between the original game and the sequel and also explains what upgrades went into the localization of the license.

MaideninBlack4623d ago

Most anticipated game of the year for me!

DA_SHREDDER4623d ago (Edited 4623d ago )

If playing WKC1 on this disc feels like a totally different then the laster iteration then I'm really intrigued. Not that WKC1 was bad, it just felt rushed and in need of alot of filling in the blanks. I'm a bit skeptical, but I hope this game ends up being good cause I really want Level 5 to prove how talented they really are.

btw, the way this lady talks is so darn cute, I just wanna hug the crap out of her.

dragonyght4623d ago

its was pretty good it just felt like a ps2 game they port to ps3 and up the graphic and nothing else i mean it felt like a very low budget game it could had been different story if sony put AAA budget behind it they good a pretty good thing going the specially the online

JAMurida4622d ago

IMO, Level 5 has already proved how talented they are with WKC 1. I mean yes the game has it's glitches/flaws and what not, but thats to be expected in a new IP/game. And what's better is pretty much everything that was wrong with the first is corrected in the second game, along with adding improvements to make it better, (like being able to make your own knight and customize it to your liking). THAT is what you call a "sequel". Fix problems with the first game and add new features that compliment the existing ones and make the game better.

And yes, the lady was pretty cute, lol.

JAMurida4623d ago

@MaideninBlack

For once on this site, I COMPLETELY agree with someone.

mediastudies4623d ago

Robert you're covering JRPGs now? Have you been talking to TechGaming's Deagle or what?

BTW- Thanks for the interview. May have to pick this one up.

pennyman4623d ago

ahh COIN-OP TV covers a variety of console games (and some pc) I did get most of these questions from Deagle of Tech Gaming tho :)

tiffac0084623d ago (Edited 4623d ago )

I'm definitely getting this game. WKC by no means perfect but I still enjoyed it nonetheless.

TBM4623d ago

i enjoyed the first one a lot even though it wasnt perfect. i still have my save file, but i think imma start over since part 2 battle system will be in part 1. this is awesome news to me.

pennyman4623d ago

thx for the comments/checking out the video -- feel free to share on your blogs/twitter

White Knight Chronicles Worldwide Shipments Top 1 Million

Level-5′s MMORPG for the PS3 may not have been a runaway success like other system exclusives but the White Knight Chronicles series has accumulated a loyal following. these is great to hear since the sequel is coming soon to america and europe ( and its already out in japan)

WildArmed4766d ago

Aye, Looking forward to the sequel.
Probably will replay WKC1 w/ the new combat system and stuff to get a better feel of the system.

Was a great game; that is if you chose to invest time into the MP.

The SP campaign was pretty weak, but like I've said again and again (I sound like a broken record) the MP was the saving grace for this awesome game.

Easily one of my best investments in games for the PS3

chidori6664767d ago

average game IMO.

Story is simplistic..and same old rescue the princess..

the game It could be better. However, it's still a "ok" game.

kevnb4766d ago

but the gameplay was terrible.

NaiNaiNai4767d ago

I have it right now.

Haven't played it in a few days. Kinda got bored after fighting the giant wolf demon lady thing. lol.

But I'll start playing again soon. I get the same feeling from this like when I played blue dragon.

WildArmed4766d ago

lol, You won't really get much out of the Single Player.

I highly encourage you to invest some time into the MP.
It was the saving grace for the game (imo)

Spent quite a good number of hours into the MP <3

Great game, looking forward to the sequel!

TheDivine4766d ago (Edited 4766d ago )

I loved blue dragon and hated wkc but i get what you mean niether quite lived up to the potential. White knight sucked badly, i was expecting an epic ff12 like game and got a slow fake mmorpg. The second looks great though hopefully its better. I heard they sped up combat so thats def good. Il plow through it though just so im up to speed for the second but i feel like i wasted 15 bux on this game. Again though if you like mmos youl dig wkc.

NaiNaiNai4766d ago

well I've tried getting online, but it tells me my character isn't allow online and then kicks me.

WildArmed4766d ago

Oh really?
Are you playing an imported version? (Jap)
Because I think you need a JP PSN account to get online.
Thou it shouldn't give you any issues if you are using the International Version.

Azianphil884767d ago

congratz to Sony and especially Level 5 on their milestone.
I'm looking forward to their sequel here in America.

BoNeSaW234767d ago

Title should read: White Knight Chronicles Franchise Has Only Sold 1 Million Worlwide!

Pretty poor for a having 4 games under it's belt. I have never played it and apparently most other gamers haven't either. I was excited before it launched because the PS3 didn't have many RPG's until I read reviews and watched videos of the boring ass combat. I'll pass on this series.
