WorthPlaying: S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat Review

WorthPlaying writes: "GSC's S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series is something of a work in progress. Its challenges have swung between satisfying hardcore survivalists and trying to entice newcomers to its world. To anyone who tried upgrading from a starting pistol in the first game, Shadows of Chernobyl or survived the opening area of the prequel, Clear Sky, you know what I'm talking about. With the third game, Call of Pripyat, GSC may have found a middle ground that still has that irradiated touch while easing in new players from outside of its fan base."

I never even heard of this game until I saw this review.

Its a great game, a bit system demanding as the engine is not too well coded, runs good in DX11 though. I couldn't put it down, beat it in 3 days.

Aphe5218d ago

Thanks for letting us know. It had been bugging me for a while, I thought to myself 'Has TheGrimBunny heard of this game? I'd better check'

TheIneffableBob5218d ago

Call of Pripyat is much better optimized than Clear Sky. It looks just as good, if not better, too. With my 2 year old 8800 GTS 512 (plus 3 year old Core 2 Duo E6600 and 4GB of RAM), I get 40 to 60 FPS at near max settings at 1680x1050. Very smooth gameplay experience.

This is how amazing the game can look.

Same here. Beat it in three days. But I played ALL day for three days. GREAT GAME. Wish they would port it to consoles so console only kiddies can take a whack at it.

I think this series is very under-rated and under-appreciated. It's much better than most reviewers are willing to give it. Sure it has bugs, but the rest of the rich gameplay features make up for it.

And also, let's keep in mind that this is done by a small indie developer, probably with limited budget. And since it's a PC exclusive and not as popular as many multiplat games, there might not be big profits for them.

I admire GSC for sticking with the PC through thick and thin. They have my utmost respect, unlike some other sellouts I happen to know. *cough*Crytek*cough*

@ Bob - An 8800 GTS did that? WOW. It's better optimized than I thought.

The STALKER team is making good money from this game and the series.
NO licensing fees no Games for windows crap. small developer and publisher so the profits are huge.

Best game out right now. The graphics are amazing even though the engine is old it produces some of the best textures, lighting, and environment.

I've had shadow of chernobyl for a while but only really started playing it now, its really good, it's probably thhe best post apocalyptic game i've played, I havn't played the original Fallout's but it is ALOT better than F3

Although the late 2000s Turok wasn't my favorite, I would love a new entry. Open world survival with shotguns and dinosaurs. Not sure how we'd get the fusion cannon, but that would be pretty sweet too.

MadLad633d ago

Lol

All of these games are pretty much universally praised. Outside of Timeshift I literally own all of these.

Venoxn4g633d ago (Edited 633d ago )

XIII, The Darkness 2, Far Cry: Blood Dragon, Timesplitters: future perfect, Bulletstorm are awesome games

I played them all, they are all good in their own way
I used to be obsessed with FPS games
