Takeuchi: Lost Planet 2 faced difficult content cuts

Since the Xbox 360's DVD drive offers the least amount of storage space -- compared to the Blu-ray drive on the PlayStation 3 -- it's easiest to assume that disc space was the cause of the cut content, and not an additional issue. However, in a note to Joystiq, Capcom described the process as standard practice.

"I know our main user base is a bunch of brainwashed idiots,"

That's a rather stupid comment to make. How much sense would it make if I said the Playstation's main user base were a bunch of simple minded sheep that ride Sony's jock to no end?

I'm a PSWii60 owner but I know damage control when I see it from all of them.

5191d ago
Simon_Brezhnev5191d ago

Oh well not getting it sick of a lot of multiplatform games cutting part of the games and charging it as DLC. Well Scamcom and Scamco already been cheating people i bet the DLC is already on the disc. So i wouldnt trust nothing Capcom says.

ukilnme5191d ago

"BTW I also own a 360, but i am able to think for myself, unlike the majority of 360 owners."

I'm in the minority here, I'm a PS3 owner that isn't full of it.

kaveti66165191d ago

Oh man. People say to me, "Hey kaveti, how come you don't call out the 360 fanboys for being idiots." I'm so sorry that there are more Sony fanboys on this site, because it makes me look biased when I call them out most of the time. But I have to do it again. The Sony fanboy Lou-Cipher thinks his sh*t smells better than that of 360 fanboys. Let me remind you all again that being a fanboy, regardless of what company you're a fanboy of, means that you are worthless. Your opinion is corrupted by your desire to make smart consumer purchases and be praised by others for making smart consumer purchases, and bash other people who make purchases that differ from yours.

Basically, you guys are walking fallacies. Stop wasting space on this thread with your useless comments.

The 360 has space limitations with the DVD-9. We get it. The world gets it. I'm saying it right now, but the way I'm saying it doesn't sound half as arrogant and idiotic as when someone like Saaking says it. Even if everything Saaking said was right, people would still disagree with him because he is an idiot. Same goes for We Won. Even if someone like Why Dis or Bungie was right about something, people would still disagree with him because he is an idiot. So, next time you try to say something, don't act so biased about it. We don't think your sh*t smells good.

DMason5191d ago

Have a +bubble. You've just perfectly described my feelings towards most of the extremists on this site. I honestly couldnt have said it better my self. The problem is that the people that agree with the Saakings of the world wear blinders and cannot bring themselves to liking anything else in the world of gaming.

Carlton Banks5191d ago

Then why did they say it in the first place?

FamilyGuy5191d ago

"This time, truly, the content that was cut was significant and at the end, we had to wrestle with disc space,"

Pistolero5191d ago

Stuff always gets cut from games....this is nothing new....the DVD format is still enough for 98% of the games this generation....even if an occasional game does need more space they can just use a second disc if it is that important.

Microsoft Xbox 3605191d ago

Thanks for pointing that out FamilyGuy. These guys are truly a bunch of idiots.

Swiftfox5191d ago

We shall know if there is any truth to these words when DLC is released and we spend a good sum of money for a code to unlock pre-existing content already on the disc.

Things are cut due to editing processes. Things don't work right, an area that throws off pacing etc. Simply cutting content with the goal to resell it to line your own pocket is unacceptable.

The-Warranty5191d ago

Why did Dmason change he headline?

sikbeta5191d ago

I just Don't care and let see how much of DLC is "offered" for this game, not talking about skins of cr@p like that I'm talking about the same thing is happening with RE5 and those "episodes" and such...

SilentNegotiator5191d ago

"This time, truly, the content that was cut was significant and at the end, we had to wrestle with disc space,"
-Takeuchi

He means that it's standard practice to sell DLC, not that it's Standard practice to cut original content in favor of DLC (Though, it is among greedier devs).

Fix the title. NOTHING in this article provides evidence for "Lost Planet 2 Cuts NOT Result of Xbox 360 Storage", and it should be the original title anyway.

rroded5191d ago

like they need a reason for charging us more for dlc that shoulda been in the game...

SilentNegotiator5191d ago

"You've just perfectly described my feelings towards most of the extremists on this site. I honestly couldnt have said it better my self. The problem is that the people that agree with the Saakings of the world wear blinders and cannot bring themselves to liking anything else in the world of gaming"

You're such a fanboy, you change the title (To something not at all said in the article and in fact the opposite) of articles and hope no one notices.

You calling people extremists? GTFO.

Anon19745191d ago

So the game's producer flat out says "More troubling than any development problems was having to keep cutting out content.
We included a lot in this release, and by the end it became a battle with the disc capacity..."

He didn't actually mean they battled with disc capacity...like he said. What he meant to say was "Editing the amount of content released with the final version of any game is a standard practice during game development."

So, we had to cut because of the 360's disc limitations...er...I mean editing is a standard process. Whew! Covered that pretty well, didn't I? Microsoft would be some pissed if we admitted that games have to be gimped due to DVD restrictions...but let's just keep that between me and you, trusty interviewer. Nudge, nudge. :)

DMason5191d ago (Edited 5191d ago )

Angry? You sound like it. You're upset that this was approved. Look at the top article on this site, it has a quote that was never said and completly taken out of context. Are you crying about that title? No. Why? Im sure theres a good reason.

Additionally, if you knew anything about submitting an article (which you dont cause youre a trainee) you would know that once its approved the title cannot be changed. That is up to a mod.

"Since the Xbox 360's DVD drive offers the least amount of storage space -- compared to the Blu-ray drive on the PlayStation 3 -- it's easiest to assume that disc space was the cause of the cut content, and not an additional issue. However, in a note to Joystiq, Capcom described the process as standard practice. Editing the amount of content released with the final version of any game is a standard practice during game development. Edits to the initial concept of a game can come from a number of sources including the amount of time given to develop the title, hardware constraints, story elements, or other factors that can detract from the experience.

Read the article.

@Parapraxis, Silent Negotiator, Family Guy- The fact that you're complaining doesnt mean a thing. Especially since all of you are known for your bias towards anything not Sony. If this was an opposite article, you wouldnt be making a peep.

Parapraxis5191d ago (Edited 5191d ago )

DMason, your interpretation is rather irrelevant.
1) You use the original heading of the article, regardless of whether or not it makes you butthurt.
2) You are refusing to acknowledge the words of Capcom themselves.

Unfortunately, for you, people can only come to a few conclusions, you are either delusional, illiterate or just too stubborn to accept what the devs themselves say.
Pick your poison.

You made the choice to change the heading.
Deal with it. ;)

SilentNegotiator5191d ago

"Read the article"

Take your own advice:
"This time, truly, the content that was cut was significant and at the end, we had to wrestle with disc space"

menoyou5191d ago

*cough cough* BULLS*** *cough cough*

FamilyGuy5191d ago (Edited 5191d ago )

Whether that's true or not doesn't matter because at least THAT title was the ACTUAL title of the article, not one completely made up by the contributor (you, in this case).

I have know idea how this got approved with that fake title.

AKNAA5191d ago

"it's easiest to assume that disc space was the cause of the cut content"

Fool me once, shame on you. fool me twice, shame on me...
At first I was like, F@#$Kin 360! always holding us back and sh1t. but now that Super SF4 and RE5 SE is coming out... On one DVD disc still! its quite clear that capcom is Really, really, reaLLY F#@king us over with this DLC bullsh1t!.... man, I use to admire their work too...:(

FamilyGuy5191d ago

You don't know a single thing about me. Titles been changed so whatever.

PS3 fans are upset because they don't like people debunking their misinformation spreading. This game has become a touchy subject because of the perceived "Special Treatment" from Capcom when it comes to the exclusive content(on top of the frustration based on how MSFT's year is shaping up).

I somewhat disagree with *kaveti6616* for obvious reasons lol(but agree with most of his comment) What he's saying is nothing different from what I'm saying all the time. It's all you can do because the PS3 fanboys have overran this site. It's black and white here on N4Gs and any differing opinions *not in Sony's favor* can never be a shade of Grey. kaveti6616 acts like I track PS3 articles spewing mindless lies to spite the PS3 as PS3 fans do in 360 articles.

My REP is based on PS3 fans tracking 360 articles(or related) and not liking what I say in them. It's going to be 2007/2008 again when it comes to the SDF.

Anyways back to LP2

Most 360 fans didn't bother with original LP2 cutting stuff out article because it was misleading and there has been a flood of desperate anti 360 articles since X10. Most people seen the flood of BS articles and knew better(15 of them a day now, submitted 5 or 6 times)

If I were a PS3 fan waiting for LP2 I'd be more worried about the PS3 version matching the 360 version's performance not what they threw away in the development process.

Rainstorm815191d ago (Edited 5191d ago )

Do you honestly think 360 fan extremists (like yourself) are any different?

N4G is littered with fanboys from both sides, that spam the disagree button no matter how true and fact based your statement is.

Alot of people act as if you cant enjoy both consoles as if you have to choose sides. ITS A PIECE OF ELECTRONICS NOT POLITICS!!!! I dont choose sides with Vizio , Samsung, or LG over TV's, why do it with a console.

You pretend to be righteous but you Troll PS3 articles just like PS3 extremists troll 360 articles with no interest in the game or console. You ARE the very thing you claim to hate.

The fact of the matter is capcom said they cut content due to disc limitations & now its Damage control time for Capcom.

PS3 and X360 users should Unite because we all are going to get the short end of the stick when it comes to the paid DLC (if they charge for it which im sure they will)

Whether its Mass Effect 2, Uncharted 2, Alan Wake or God of War 3, Im a Gamer and i like to play great games. You (& any other fanboys reading) should try and do the same and get the Hate out of your blood

Microsoft: Hey Capcom, How much money will it take to take back earlier statements?

Capcom: Its to late, we already told the general public that the 360 is holding the PS3 & PC back due to last gen technology.

Microsoft: Silly Capcom, don't you know that we have Xbox only owners absolutely brainwashed. Here, take this money and act like you never said anything. That is the beauty of the 360 user base, is they believe anything we say, no matter how absurd. Hahahaha

Wrathman5191d ago

grasp at straws much?

me thinks so.

nextgen5191d ago

I think capcom and others like having to cut content to fit on the crapbox360. Then they can charge ps3 owners money for dlc that should already be on the disk.

blitz06235191d ago

No need for Damage Control. Everyone knows the 360 discs cuts potential of A TON of games.

the original quote

"This time, truly, the content that was cut was significant and at the end, we had to wrestle with disc space,"

To me that says they were forced to cut content due to the disc space and no other factor.

DMason5191d ago

Well thats because you are a fanboy that only owns one system. The only reason you see it that way is because you're biased.

Carlton Banks5191d ago

How is he a fanboy? Its what Capcom said themselves.

Raoh5191d ago

this, coming from someone who posted an article and changed the heading, fanboy ...

LOL

YoMeViet5191d ago

ya its pretty sad, he even made the "NOT" in all caps...really now...

DMason5191d ago (Edited 5191d ago )

Are you mad that it got approved? Its a summary about what was said in the interview. I understand that the PS3 fanboys of the site are extremely upset because it contradicts an earlier article, but the proof is in this article. Just because the title of this article does not match the title of the original article, the content is still the same.

In the article "Xbox Cuts Made Us Weep. Enjoy Buying DLC!" , the quoted title was completely taken out of context. Capcom never said "Enjoy Buying DLC" but the article was still approved and no one was upset over that. So whats with the pot calling the kettle black here?

This goes to show that anything on this site can get approved. And you will always have opposite sides pissed off about it. How many times do you see biased articles on this site? Always. 50 articles a day.

@Raoh and Carlton- I was talking about Lou before his comment was deleted.

@YoMieViet- And its sad that only PS3 fanboys are complaining about the article. Its actually hilarious to see them all come out of the woodwork, getting extremely mad. Every single person complaining coincedentally only owns a PS3. Including Family Guy, Silent Negotiator, YoMieVet, Parapraxis, etc.

beardpapa5191d ago

From the news about content cut found at Sankaku complex to this sudden one from joystiq, it definitely does sound like damage control since well... the talk about content cut being standard practice sounds very much like PR talk.

mastiffchild5191d ago

Dmason-I'm not a fan of the headline for the original piece either but you have to address the fact that the Joystiq piece you posted is clear as mud.

The quotes within could support either view here and we all, whatever system we own or prefer, know that BOTH practises happen. Content is cut because of dev choice, deadline, story concerns-all of that's true but it's also true that devs often don't want the extra cost and hassle of a second disc for 360 games and the first quote from Capcom in your posted article still supports this being the case here. That they also go on to say it's industry practise to cut stuff for various other reasons doesn't negate the first quote, does it?

I don't want to align myself with either being the truth as Capcom have been caught talking BS already over this gens DLC(when, frankly they should be more bothered about the way games like DMC4,RE5,DV and BC, among others they've foisted at us, all suck)and anyne unfortunate enough to have paid for a downloadable key to unlock the worlds most cumbersome, pointless multiplayer mode in gaming history will know this only too well-same with those DLC SF4 cossies.

IMO the truth here could be either thing-it could well still be that, in this case the 360's DVD storage issues have forced the cut OR Capcom are being a little clever-we cannot be sure as both things DO happen. However, to criticise other posters for pointng out the contradictory nature of the article by calling them blind fanboys is unfair when the article allows for their interpretation just as much as yours and I see little reason for anyone to say there's proof of either being the case conclusively.

I can't be arsed checking what people's leanings are on N4G and it doesn't often bother me either way(unless we see pure idiocy and name calling and both sides are equally capable of that)but the only thing I know is a bit unfair is that arcade 360 owners aren't even going to get the chance to see how important the cut content is to LP2-whether t's down to Capcom's greed or MSs choice of disc drive. So IF the content was cut because of DVD9 those of us who paid more for our 360 or bought PS3s will have to pay more to find out what the content is while those of us unfortunate enough, in this instance, to hvave bought an arcade 360 just won't ever see it. Neither seems very fair to me and you have to question the wisdom of Capcom saying that signifigant content will be missing from the retail game AT ALL don't you?

As I say-we aren't going to know for certain just what happened here and won't even when the DLC goes on sale but I'm left feeling that it wopuld be better if Capcom went to two discs rather than this even if the price was pushed up a little considering some 360 owners are being left out of content that's seemingly so important to the game-unlike usual, extra DLC that you make the choice to be able to get or not be able to get when you bought your 360 model of choice. Saying the content was signifigant in nature and not just size makes Capcom seem like they're saying the content SHOULD be part of the initial game and if so they should be finding a way to get it to all HD console gamers and not as paid for or even FREE DLC.

Gamers, no gamers, should be left out of content considered to be important in this way and whether MS should help Capcom do this or whether it has nothing to do with DVD9 I still think it should be made available to us all purely because of the way Capcom suggest we view it's importance. If they're saying that just to boost it's DLC sales then they'e truly out of order for seemingly passing the blame to MS and their decisions over DVD9 and it isn't like other companies don't put out games on two or three discs, is it?

Whatever the truth this is another instance where the gamer loses out either way while the industry types involved mince their words until any truth would be unrecognisable. Why Capcom would appear to come out blaming MS/DVD9 in the first place, though, is an odd, odd decision in my eyes whatever the truth might be-it's a PR mess whatever the reasoning behind it anyway.

Going back to this article, however, I dn't think it's nearly possible from it's content to confirm or deny either PoV people have on this issue so we shouldn't be getting so hot and bothered about it in that regard but moreso that whatever's happened gamers lose out.

CrippleH5191d ago

Either way it's bad. Cutting content that could have been in the game then selling it as DLC is just as bad.

DoucheVader5190d ago (Edited 5190d ago )

Well it just goes to show how low the bar is set for developers because of the 360.

At the end of the day, if I am not mistaken, devs and publishers are not going to opt for a 2nd disc on the 360 because that eats into their profits unless they make an arrangement with Microsoft.

So thanks again Microsoft for effing things up for everyone.

"Cutting content that could have been in the game then selling it as DLC is just as bad."

Honestly I see this as becoming more typical then I am comfortable with. How many times have we not been privy to this information?
