Prince of Persia Wii Shots Misleading and False

Connor Beaton writes: "So Ubisoft have released a couple of screenshots from the Wii version of the upcoming Prince of Persia: Forgotten Sands which you can check out over at Nintendo Everything, and they're looking pretty impressive. Compared to the Wii's lacklustre graphical performance in recent releases, it's a pleasant change. At least, it would be, if these screenshots were entirely legitimate.

"If you recall, Square Enix accidentally released touched-up Final Fantasy XIII screenshots last week, and at first, I thought Ubisoft might have done the same. However, I was wrong; these are "screenshots" from the Wii version of the game, but the game isn't actually running on the Wii in these screenshots, it's running in a development environment. It's the only way to explain the crisp, vivid graphics at such a high resolution (873p, exceeding the Wii's maximum 480p/576i). So while not exactly fake or touched-up, they are misleading. Our photo manipulation expert has created a composite shot of what the game will probably look like on your Wii."

so the game can look like the shots on nintendo everything if you play it on the dolphin.

shame on ubi. but i shall have faith that the graphics are real like that. its plausible on a wii game.

it looks the same i mean 873p 1080p it doesnt matter because its straight from the game so the graphic quality what u see is exactly the same as u would get on a 480p screen

it definitely makes a difference in visuals when you're running games in 480i/480p vs. 720p/1080i/1080p

Heck, there's even a big difference when you run ps2/gamecube games in progressive scan.

The game still looks nice though.

Ubisoft has done bullshots for their Wii games in the past. Promotional pics for Red Steel and Far Cry Vengeance were overly touched up as I remember.

yes because they didnt have proper high end game engines running on the wii then they do now they got lyn engine and BGAE2 engine so graphics can be achieved now they dont need to do bullshots

it is going to have those graphics just not at the same resolution. Apparently that means slightly less vivid colors and a teeny bit more fuzzy appearance. It's still looks awesome... i don't get what the problem is.

Still... can anyone say "Sensational Headline"? Good glad you could. I mean... "misleading and false"... not only redundant but kindof flat out wrong. Since they are still shots from a wii game and nowhere did they lead us to believe these were captured right from a wii playing the game at the time.

I have a feeling that the PC version will be a direct port from this. I mean, c'mon, this is Ubisoft - the same devs that delayed Assassin's Creed 2 on PC "for adding certain extra features", yet are too lazy to add any DX10 or DX11 features.

if u look at the scans on this site u will see the graphic detail is amazing and looks every bit as good as it does on these so called misleading shots what a plonker he plays only 360 and is always defending graphics to keep people off thinking the wii can compete with 360 the fact is that the wii can compete graphically u just need devs that are pushing for the absolute best and with budgets that are realistic or comparable to the budgets u use to get graphics good on the 360 thats all dont be fooled go on youtube and type cancelled gamecube games there are games there with graphics that beat the ps3 so i think that for the most part 360 games are just what gamecube can do but upscalled in house its all a load of tosh that the wii cant do ultra high end graphics

It looks like they just put an Okami-style paper filter over the picture. That's also misleading, maybe moreso than the original shots.

Yes, it washes out a bit of the sharpness to demonstrate differences in resolution, but it also washes the color out of the pic. Getting vibrant colors out of the Wii isn't an issue.

The only problem is the output render.
But it seems legit to be a wii game, i mean it looks good due the art-style not so because of the output resolution.(I mean the leaves look like crap in higher resolution and some other 2D planes with transparent textures).

People pretend Wii isn't able to do some decent shaders. Last gen did these kinds of outputs.

Im not even gonna say "it looks good for a wii game", instead ill say this is what I expect from the Wii(minus the AA and higher resolution output)

A different Out-put doesnt mean it wont look as good as this, if the games made to run at a max of 480p it will look its best at 480p. They release game trailers for Wii games in HD does that mean they misleading? Go look at any Wii game that is running on Dolphin at an HD resolution, WITHOUT the filters there wouldn't be such a drastic difference. Upscaling a game that was made to run at a 480p resolution wont magically look better when simply upscaled, it needs to be filtered.
