Leaked Video and Screens Reveal Levels in Sonic the Hedgehog 4

Just a few weeks ago Sega surprised plenty of people when they announced Sonic 4, the first numbered title in the series since 1994's Sonic 3, would be coming to PS3, Wii, and Xbox 360 in episodic form starting this summer. That announcement left plenty of questions in the minds of Sonic's many rabid fans. How much will it cost? How many levels will be included? What does he look like when he runs?

The game looks kind of stupid... it looks like the transition from Mega Man 6 to Mega Man 7. Sonic looks too big for the screen, and the gameplay looks floaty. I wasn't really interested to begin with, because "lol, Sonic cycle" but I'm even less interested now. I'll see how reviews treat it, but I'm not expecting much.

Hisiru5194d ago

The problem isn't the game, the problem is the person playing it.

Dark_Vendetta5194d ago (Edited 5194d ago )

Yeah something just doesnt feel right. Well I'll give it a try, maby it's good (at least I really hope it is). It's been a long time I played a good Sonic game ...

Edit: gotta love the "Seeegaaaa" sound

I think Sega are finally getting it right, Sonic 4 looks great. The only thing i would like them to change is make sonics animations faster. Make his legs blur round when he runs fast and make him spin really fast when he jumps. Just like the original games. Other then that it looks great

SoapShoes5194d ago

You can see a segment where he runs at full speed and his legs do blur into a circle like on the old games.

Redempteur5194d ago

Let's see

-graphics ..ok
-Number of zones ? So far 3 act by zone ( 4 zones in total ) +bonnus stage ..more than enough for it to be a good game
-sense of gravity : ok

look like sonic 1 ( MD ) first stage with more colors .. ( alright i guess )
animation need work but since this is a alpha this not a problem yet .

SO far so good ( no mention of any story related events ) [excellent]

Well done sega this path , and these design choices will lead you to my money ..

Shadow Flare5194d ago

You're right, his legs do blur. Somethings still off with the way he moves though. Its a little more floaty then it should be

OT:

Some of you might like this if your sonic fans

Smacktard5194d ago

Well okay, I'll get disagrees now but let's see how right I am when the game gets released.

But then I'm sure you'll have a ton of Sonic fans that embrace mediocrity and argue that a game with a metacritic score of 60 is "STILL A GOOD GAME!"

Geriatric Hero5194d ago

I don't know guys... Sure this is just an alpha build, but I have to say I'm more than slightly disappointed by it. The physics engine is strange and doesn't resemble the classic 2D games. The animation looks slow and still needs a lot of work. Also, Sonic's artwork should consist of hand drawn high resolution 2D sprites (right now he reminds more of Donkey Kong on the SNES than Sonic on the Genesis).

If Sega can fix these issues, I'll be first in line to buy the episodes.

PlainOldGamer5194d ago

What is SEGA doing right so far this year?

-Sonic4 Announced.

-Bringing Yakuza3 to the States (Thank God)

Keep it up SEGA. I'll be looking forward to more great announcements.

MEsoJD5194d ago

too floaty when he jumps. I'm assuming this is alpha build. A game like this needs to be fluid.

Indeed looks fantastic cannot wait for this game!

FunAndGun5194d ago

yeah, but does it have blast processing?

Nightblade5194d ago

Lmao, Blast Processing....classic, gotta love the old days...I miss them dearly

gtamike1235194d ago

I still think animations could be better.

ProjectVulcan5194d ago

Is there any reason this shouldnt run 1080/60 frames? I liked it though. However I felt it still looked a little less detailed than it could...Im realistic, Im hardly expecting uncharted 2 from a 2D sonic game, but all the textures and backgrounds should be hyper detailed

multipayer5194d ago (Edited 5194d ago )

Considering it is coming out on the wii, I think we are lucky it is even 16:9. Megaman 9 wasn't... This 3D model of sonic is also way to fugly. I wish it was more like Street Fighter Turbo HD.

Sonic’s Episodic Adventures – The History of Sonic the Hedgehog 4

Sonic the Hedgehog 4 was something many wanted to see for a very long time. Continuing the story from Sonic 3 & Knuckles, many had lofty expectations for this title. When it finally released, many were split on the project. From it’s episodic nature, different feeling controls and changes that felt strange to fans of Sonic’s classic adventures, Sonic 4 Episode I and II were divisive games to say the least.

Articuno762676d ago

I feel like if they could keep improving on the Sonic 4 physics, formula and level design they could have gone from the good Sonic 4 Ep II to something genuinely great for Sonic 4 Ep III.

lellkay2675d ago

Strange games. Definitely shouldn't have been "Sonic 4". Seeing as it re-used alot of ideas, level themes enemies and bosses etc, it really should have been called "Sonic Megamix" or something and the levels should have been named after the originals. This would have given SEGA a chance to see what fans reaction was to this style of game, before going in for "proper" Sonic 4. Sonic Mania feels far more "Sonic 4" than the actual Sonic 4 does haha
