Eurogamer gives 8 to The Darkness

There are things about The Darkness that will have you gurning with frothing appreciation and leave you in no doubt that Starbreeze is among the most talented developers in the world. Its ability to consistently inject new life into a resolutely tired genre shouldn't be underestimated. Just as Starbreeze managed with The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay, the pacing's exquisite in that the game twists and turns in new directions just when it's required.

That is unfair. First I thought 1UP is giving it too much but after buying the game hours ago, I now believe its much more than 9. 8 is a it too low for this game. Its a kool as hell, follows Riddick's quality standards and has TV shows and movies + Multiplayer!

shysun6169d ago

You better buy this game.....please.We need more games like this!

original seed6169d ago

that both 360 and PS3 fans will get to play it. Im tired of playing all sequels and its good to give Devs Props for making an original IP. Im picking this up for sure.

I agree with you MK_Red, Eurogamer can sometime be overly harsh on some of their reviews. Another good exemple is their review of RE4 for the Wii, they gave it only 7/10 while all others gave it 8, 9 and above. So as a result, Eurogamers' reviews have lost some of their relevance for me.

MK_Red6170d ago (Edited 6170d ago )

Wow, didn't know they gave RE4 Wii a 7. Gamespot gave Wii version a 9.1.
So if thats the case, Darkness could be much much better than 8 and I really hope so since I've been following this new game for months.

MOre bad news for Darkness, Gamer TV also gave it 8 (4 from 5):

I havent seen other review from them before. Waiting for Gamespot, IGN and GT reviews.

8 0ut of 10 or 4 out of 5 is not bad at all. no game has a perfect ten or i haven't seen one yet. all of them has some kind of problem. some complain about the chronicles of riddick before, (no multiplayer, too short) but i played it and the game was one of the best best game I've ever played , i don't ignore everything that i read in reviews but I'm careful and i check it out myself to see if i like it or not. thats why i like demos, cause it really helps me to make a decision . I'll buy this game asap.

shysun6169d ago

Do you guys only play 10/10 games or something?Read the reviews, they all love this game.

Daxx6170d ago

It looks like a good game. I'm going to get it no matter what the reviews say because I'm itching for a new FPS for my 360.

Sounds like a remaster of The Darkness game may be in the works

The CEO of Nightdive Studios has said in a tweet that the game is currently on the list for a modern update.

isarai261d ago

Oh I'm sold already, Nightdive does really solid remasters, and to this day I still love the darkness

Leeroyw261d ago

Mike Patton of Faith No More did the voice too. It was such a great game.

Quetzll261d ago

Had no idea and i absolutely love FNM and Patton. Gonna go back and play this game.

Snookies12261d ago

The Darkness was awesome! Here's hoping a remaster might lead to a new game!

RaidenBlack261d ago

Darkness 1 is coming to PC! .... OMG!

isarai261d ago

That honestly might be the biggest W here. Darkness with RTX would be neat to see

I_am_Batman261d ago

Excellent news. The Darkness is one of my all-time favorite games and the sequel is great too. I've just recently had a great time replaying them on my PS3. Unfortunately it's kinda hard to recommend them these days, because they're stuck on PS3 and 360 so a remaster would certainly be appreciated. Nightdive has been killing it lately.

DefenderOfDoom2261d ago

Awesome, I loved The Darkness made by Starbreeze who a lot them are now developers at Machine Games . Yes , again thank you Nightdive !

Dagexon260d ago

Now I'm hoping they remaster more of starbreeze's games. Namely the chronicles of riddick games

DefenderOfDoom2260d ago

Chronicles of Riddick Escape from Butcher Bay , is one my favorite gaming experience I ever had . Great game .!

ModsDoBetter261d ago

Excellent games.
Recently ran through The Darkness 2 on PS3 again.

I hated the switch in style when it first came out but they're both amazing games.

Although the late 2000s Turok wasn't my favorite, I would love a new entry. Open world survival with shotguns and dinosaurs. Not sure how we'd get the fusion cannon, but that would be pretty sweet too.

MadLad614d ago

Lol

All of these games are pretty much universally praised. Outside of Timeshift I literally own all of these.

Venoxn4g614d ago (Edited 614d ago )

XIII, The Darkness 2, Far Cry: Blood Dragon, Timesplitters: future perfect, Bulletstorm are awesome games

gurp14d ago

I played them all, they are all good in their own way
I used to be obsessed with FPS games
