Videogamers Get Their Skates on for Winter Olympics

As top athletes from around the world gear up for the Winter Olympics in Vancouver, video gamers can also lace up the skates or strap on the snowboard in a trio of titles bringing winter sports to life. Japanese game maker Sega, which won the publishing rights fo the official 2010 Winter Olympics video games, has two releases out aimed at extending the Winter Games beyond a few weeks. Sega released "Vancouver 2010 - The Official Video Game of the Olympic Winter Games" on Jan. 12 for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC, with 14 events like alpine skiing, speed skating and snowboard cross, giving fans a taste of the real experience.

PSX Extreme writes: "It seems that every time they try to do a game based on the Olympics, everything falls to pieces. The last attempt – centered on the 2008 Summer Games in Beijing – failed miserably due to ridiculous mechanics, clunky and sometimes impossible control, lackluster technicals and an almost complete lack of pageantry and theatricality. The latter is part of what makes the Olympics great, if we've already forgotten, and while Vancouver 2010 still lacks that, Eurocom made good strides in righting many of the past wrongs."
