GTAIV DLC, The Truth Comes Out

After many years of speculation, PS3 and Windows PC's finally get the GTAIV DLC. Now many PS3 rigz will tell you that Microsoft wasted $50 million dollars on this DLC. They will also tell you that GTAIV sucks and they never wanted the DLC anyways. What are they going to do now? Everyone knows that the story in the DLC is better than what was shipped with the game. If you are a GTA fan why wouldn't you want the DLC?

This should say "If you are a GTA *IV* fan"

I'm a HUGE GTA fan and that's why I was dissapointed in GTAIV. I played it once and that was it. Didn't even try to play when the trophy patch came.

I'll be perfectly honest. IF (and that's a big if) I run out of games before next fall I'll give it a shot. Probably buy it used. Again, that's IF I finish WKC, Yakuza, GoW3, FFXIII, Red Dead Redemption before Madden kicks off the fall game releases.

That's how far I got in GTA4 before getting bored.

BoGT looks like it brings back some of the fun GTA4 was missing. I'd buy it to go parachuting and clubbing/sexing, but it's a little late. I already traded in my copy towards a good game.

i must say that i got 100 because i only had to do the flying rats and i did n't wantto see the number blocked at 97.5%

Can anybody tell me exactly what R* got out of the loan from MS then? I'm working under the assumption that they don't usually need 50millon dollar advances just to get games out to us let alone for DLC for which everything was already in place. Aslo wouldn't R* have been slightly swimming with cash post GTA4 anyway-it sold a few copies you know! I just don't see why R* would either want or need a loan which terms would hurt their profits, not may hurt but cerainly would hurt as PS3 sales were always going to take a hit with the extra wait.

So, MS got the DLC timed exclusive basically for nothing? Is that good business from R* who must know what a hot item the GTA franchise is and that they could have got money straight in their pocket rather than borrowing it from MS and by going the route they meant to have they actually damaged their bottom line. Sorry but it makes absolutely no sense. I'm certain MS would like u to believe it but I just don't think people give MS something for nothing-not after the way they acted in Japan over timed exclusives and getting games to go multiplat.

Sony got their three game deal with R*(again, if we believe what's written) when they agreed to day and date multiplat release of GTA4 which R* wanted and MS wanted to cement the franxchise on their console seeing that R* would be working with Sony for a bit in the future and as GTA is a big deal it makes sense for them to want to associate with it for future releases on their next or current hardware. I see MS motive and Sony's motive but don't see what R* ever hoped to gain by hamstringng the PS3 DLC when there was so little to choose between the sales of GTA4 on both platforms(and esp when you consider 360 lead was bigger back then too). I could buy a deal where MS freed up 50million for R*(though even a loan of that size seems excessive for what they had to make)and only got, say, 40million back meaning 10million for R* and even then MS are 10million in the black AND got their timed exclusivity with R* gettng a realistic sum for them risking their PS3 profits on the DLC.

Be honest and put yourself in R*'s shoes:why would you allow MS timed exclusivity for a sum you knew you'd get back anyway? The onyl thing I can possibly see in it is that MS didn't charge interest but that kind of figure on an investment as safe as GTA(esp with GTA4 sales and reviews)would be negligable compared to what R* would be able to make on the PS3 DLC alone if released in tandem!I'm not an analyst or economist of any kind but if anyone can tell me why R* would do this I'd be very glad to be made to understand as, right now, I jut can't see any sense in it from their side at all and as a result I don't believe it for a second.

BTW, I'll be buying the PS3 DLC(didn't get it for 360 as I have the PS3 GTA4 and at the time of TLATD IIRC you had to have the disc for the downoad, no?)when I have the time and the money but will be gettimng bona fide NEW games which we've been being hyped for in the time that passed while the DLC was pretending it was MS exclusive and I don't know how many PS3 gamers will be bothered with it at all-esp wth no cut in price or extras to sweeten the long wait-it's going up agaimnst some serious Sony exclusives as well as some massive multis around the time as well(FF13, GOW3,HR,MAG,Y3,Bioshock2 and even R*'s own RDR!)so, imo, it needs all the help it can possibly get!

The GTA4 hate still bemuses me even now-I thought the storytelling and mature approach was exactly what the series needed after the excess of San Andreas which grated on me and seems too SR looking back on it now and had R* gone any further down that road they would have turned into a parody of themselves very similar to what Saints Row ended up doing.

I still don't see what R* get out of a loan deal that would allow/force them to risk their sales on PS3-the more I think the less sense it makes. Not that anyone tells us lot the bloody truth anyway, mind!

Looking Back At 2008, An Unbelievably Incredible Year Of Video Game Releases

Huzaifa from eXputer: "2008 was home to the likes of Call of Duty: World at War, Dead Space, GTA 4, Far Cry 2, Left 4 Dead, and many other hits, which is outright remarkable."

ChasterMies3d ago

Some of these low paid video game “news” writers weren’t born before 2007.

just_looken3d ago

Here here

Those that were around before 2000's i am sure are like me that think we entered a world of non readers or those that follow without question.

I can not wait to see fallout 3 a goty game even though it was about water with non content until you add the dlc/updates then you got the performance/crashing

CrimsonWing694d ago

I don’t think anything can compare to 2023

lucasnooker4d ago

1998 - the best year in gaming! Metal gear solid, crash bandicoot 3, medievil, half life, ocarina of time, thief, tenchu, resident evil 2, Spyro, tomb raider 3, oddworld abes exodus, banjo kazooie.

It was a different breed of a gaming era. You’ll never understand what it was like back then. The aura of gaming, it was different!

KyRo4d ago (Edited 4d ago )

I second this. Gaming was a lot more varied and fun than it is today. I'm 35 so getting on compared to some here but I got to see all the changes from NES up to now but I've never felt so disappointed in any generation than I have this current gen. I was expecting more from this generation rather than prettier versions of games that came before it. Game mechanics have become so refined that alot of games feel the same and has done for a while now.

Maybe it's time to have a break for a while. I love gaming but I don't feel I get much fun in the traditional sense out of it anymore.

CrimsonWing694d ago (Edited 4d ago )

Metal Gear Solid, Resident Evil 2, Abe’s Exodus, and Ocarina of Time are the only things from that list that I liked.

Here’s the 2023 game releases that I personally liked… and big releases that I didn’t care for:

- Dead Space Remake
- Wo Long Dynatsy
- Resident Evil 4 Remake
- Diablo 4
- Fire Emblem Engage
- Hogwarts Legcay
- Street Fighter 6
- Hi-Fi Rush
- Like a Dragon: Ishin
- Octopath Traveler 2
- Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters
- Final Fanatsy XVI (actually ended up not liking this, but it was still a big deal release)
- Baldur’s Gate 3
- Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon
- Lies of P
- Mortal Kombat 1
- Marvel’s Spider-Man 2
- Starfield (Ended up hating this one, but big release)
- Super Mario Bros. Wonder
- Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (I’m an old-school Zelda fan, but didn’t really enjoy this game)
- Alan Wake 2

I mean, honestly I’ve never seen a year of major IP releases like that, ever.

Profchaos4d ago (Edited 4d ago )

Isn't it just a generational thing realistically.

I've been gaming since way back and I some of my favourite games go as far back as the late 80s for me each generation has a year or two of game changing releases one after another before an inevitable dry spell.

I kind of agree gaming had a different feel games hit different because we didn't have the internet nothing got spoiled and you really had to put in the effort to beat a puzzle which could set entire groups of people looking for a solution. But most importantly games were experimental and not as cookie cutter as today even basics like controls were not universal today r2 is shoot l2 is ads garunteed you can't deviate from that in a shooter back then it could of been square, R1 or R1 and circle nothing was standard.

But as time moves on a new generation picks up their controller they are going to be interested in different things that PS1 demo disc with the t Rex blew our primitive 16 bit brains back on launch but to kids today it's laughable.
The new gen of kids coming into to hobby seem to value different things to us there seems to be a huge focus on online play, streamers, gaming personalities, and social experiences, convience of digital downloads. To me I value none of that but that's ok like my parents not liking the band's I would listen to its just the natural cycle.

Gameseeker_Frampt3d ago

Just about every year in the 7th generation was great and something we most likely won't experience again.

2009 for example had Assassin's Creed 2, Batman: Arkham Asylum, Dragon Age: Origins, Uncharted 2, Halo 3: ODST, Killzone 2, Borderlands, Bayonetta, and Demon's Souls to name a few.

just_looken3d ago

It still amazes me we got over 7 rockstar games ps2/ps3 but 3 for the ps3/ps4/ps5

Dragon age 1-3 and mass effect 1-3 in 7ish years what a generation.
