Destructoid: Supreme Commander 2 Preview

If there is a genre out there that has sat pretty stagnant, it's probably the RTS. In most cases you're put on a flat map, given a bunch of soldiers, told to build something and then told to defeat someone by some general in a room. Personal stories are out the window, and becoming invested in what is actually a war that kills thousands of people is almost impossible thanks to your God-like disconnection from the battlefield. In short, while the rest of gaming has moved onto epic storylines and truly powerful tales, the RTS, which is a genre ripe for telling epic stories, has pretty much done nothing.

Square Enix and Gas Powered Games are hoping to change all this with Supreme Commander 2. By bringing together Square Enix's well known love of story driven gaming and Gas Powered's epic RTS heritage the two are hoping to make an RTS like you've never seen before.

Awesome, i'm so psyched for this game. Need more Supcom 2 news...

Any RTS fans should check this puppy out, and even Demigod while you wait, they just released more more Demigods via update, it's a great game with a lot of replayability.

Cheers BIoodmask, keep up the good work.

Letros5211d ago

Loved Demigod, played that for a few month's straight until I moved on to HoN, thinking of revisiting...

Read the article, "To tell the truth, moving into the 360 version of the game straight from the PC version was like hitting a brick wall made out of glorious PC user interfaces."

Why even bother...I mean they still try RTS on consoles, sales cannot be that good...

Nihilism5211d ago

Dude you need to play Demigod again, there are 2 more demigods and they both rock, one is a bad ass lightning wielding minoatur on a pedestal of blue flames... and one is this lizard assassin, who didn't sound good on paper, but may just be my new fav.

It sucks that they weren't included at launch, but they game the game a whole new life

Letros5211d ago

I suppose I'll reinstall it again, I had a hard time playing 4v4 and 5v5 because someone's ping was always spiking nonstop, kinda turned me off, but 3v3 on Cataract was a blast.

March is officially RTS month...Sup Com 2...Chaos Rising...Napoleon TW...ugh not enough time.

TehCell5211d ago

This game is preety bland and boring. Age of Empires 3 is so much better, but Microsoft closed Ensemble. After the millions of gold account money, they still closed a studio.

Nihilism5211d ago (Edited 5211d ago )

So....you think a game that has not been released is boring...your psychic abilities astound me, and as far as RTS goes, age of empires is at the bottom of the food chain

TehCell5211d ago

Well man, thats like your opinion man.

History of Real-Time Strategy: The Downfall (2004 - 2010)

VGChatz's Taneli Palola: "There's no question that during these years the overall popularity of the genre took a significant hit, as most games within it specialized even further by adding new elements from other types of games into their gameplay loops and consequently became increasingly niche as the years wore on.

However, this doesn't in any way mean that the period was devoid of great games. Quite the contrary, in fact. Arguably some of the greatest RTS titles ever made came out around this time, and much of this was because many developers were increasingly familiar and comfortable with adding new twists and gameplay elements to the familiar formula. As such, even when the genre's popularity dwindled, many studios were still creating excellent and groundbreaking titles almost every year, just for a smaller audience than in years past."

those were fun years red alert star craft command and conquer well when westwood studio made good games before EA brought them like bioware...

Vegamyster1813d ago

Aside from C&C 4, the other C&C's from EA were all good/great. The genre nose dived once Moba's rose in popularity, even Petroglyph Games (ex-Westwood employees) haven't had a hit since Star Wars: Empire at War (2006), all there games got abandoned after launch.

Are the free Xbox Games With Gold titles for March 2016 any good?

Neil writes "The Xbox Games With Gold scheme for March 2016 is nearly in play, bringing four new free games for Xbox One and Xbox 360 owners. But is the program actually worth getting excited about? Are the Games With Gold titles for March 2016 actually any good, or is it just another waste of your precious download limits?

Well, March is most definitely going to be a bit of a slow burner, but it'll finish on a note that is higher than anything we've seen before."

Can't wait to get stuck into Sherlock again, it got lost in my backlog but having it on digital will encourage me to venture back in.

Dewitt2979d ago

Super excited for both as I have never played them. SH especially intrigues me.

UltraNova2978d ago

LOtF is a Dark Souls rip-off, in the good kind of way, albeit far easier ...that said its a pretty decent, yet short power fantasy light RPG with good visuals.

Now that's free its even better! Give it a try!

creeping judas2979d ago

Never felt like playing full price for Lords Of The Fallen, but I will definitely DL that game and play it. And since there seems to be a lot interest in Sherlock Holmes, I guess I will try that as well.

PS3Freak2979d ago

I'm playing it right now, it's actually a very fun game. Very rewarding when you figure out how to kill an enemy for the first time.
