Americas Preorders Chart, 16th Jan 2010

The latest pre-order charts are in and Mass Effect 2 is putting up some stunning numbers. With nearly 400,000 pre-orders and still 10 days to go before launch, week one sales should end up around the 750,000 mark - a huge improvement over the original game and the first blockbuster of 2010. MAG: Massive Action Game is also out the same week as Mass Effect 2 and despite setting the pre-order pace early on (mainly due to the MAG beta), I expect week one sales to come in at 300,000 - an impressive amount for a new IP on PS3! God of War III continues to look good for a week one of over 700,000 and Battlefield: Bad Company 2 should comfortable outsell its predecessor.

it may just be me but i think the mag beta was a smart move.

it made want it.

RememberThe3575227d ago

Unfortunately I'll probably be getting Mass Effect 2 instead. There are just too many games this year...

captain-obvious5227d ago

yah me too but it made some PPL actually hate it
any way
im gald to see that the PS3 is still doing good

Hellsvacancy5227d ago (Edited 5227d ago )

Im 1 of the mofos that hated it

Ive been in the beta pretty much since the beginning, after all the grueling updates and stat resets i got rather pissed off wid it

Ill probably still buy it but it wont b 4 afew months when it cums down in price

raztad5227d ago

I went into the fourth beta expecting nothing from it and came out gladly surprised by a deep and fun game. Getting it day one. I can't wait for playing my role in the Shadow War.

BTW, Those guys at VGCHARTZ really love to play with guesses. The "predictions" for first week sales seem pulled out of their arses.

bmw695227d ago

Why pulled out of their asses?

sikbeta5227d ago (Edited 5227d ago )

Great for MAG, this Game will be BIG... for obvious reasons

GOW3 is Just BEAST

raztad5227d ago

@bmw9

I dont see any methodology (statistics for that matter) behind their 750K, 700K and 300K, just a bare "I expect". I'm just wondering how they came up with those numbers.

bpac1234567895227d ago (Edited 5227d ago )

I'm only getting a few games over the next 3 months.

God of war 3
heavy rain
final fatasy 13
(gt5 would be on this list too if that a** hole kaz would ever stop running his mouth, changing release dates, saying it's almost done, and .... never mind just release the game. anyone remember this statement "we can release it at any time we want." yeah sounds like BS to me.)

-everything else I'll be either borrowing from my friends, or buying much later in the year.

edit: never realized how much of a Gran turismo fan i was until the release date got pushed back 2-3 years.

Cyorg5227d ago (Edited 5226d ago )

A multiplat shooter with more preorders on the PS3 than 360? Weird.

TotalPS3Fanboy5226d ago

Maybe because BF:BC2 is a much better game than MW2.

Noctis Aftermath5226d ago

BFBC2 will be the shooter of the year, yes i am saying it will be better then reach, also i am unable to decide if i like MAG or not, i liked the customization, i liked the maps, i wasn't really a fan of the controls or graphics and i also think it was to easy (Example: i got 31 kills and 6 deaths in my 3rd game in the public beta, i've never gotten results that good before)

Hisiru5226d ago (Edited 5226d ago )

They "expect" because they are already familiar with this market and how the things works . I never saw they making a mistake with predictions.

About the numbers, vgchartz is tracking sales from gamestop, amazon etc.

Dev8 ing5226d ago

It got me wanting it. I might just wait for ME2 to go on sale. There wont be enough time to finish it before heavy rain comes out, or before GOW3. I'll pick it up in April of whenever it goes on sale on steam. MAG will probably be the game I play off and on throughout the year until GT5 comes out.

LEGENDARY PELON5226d ago (Edited 5226d ago )

Halo Reach is slowly creeping to become the number one spot on this list, and its still a while untill its released!

A week before release, over 4m pre-orders for sure!

By then ps3 fangirls better be praying and attending church both sat and sun!! This means no unfarted or chicken lil oh i mean lil big planet for nights to come!!!

Seriously any game on xbox360 is gonna rape ps3 game when it comes down to SALES even ps3 fan boy's and girls know that.

Cyrax_875227d ago (Edited 5227d ago )

GT5 will outsell everything except maybe Halo Reach.

Braineater24485227d ago

That's not true anymore. PS3 is catching up!!

JasonPC360PS3Wii5227d ago

Braineater2448 no it isn't your biggest selling game is MGS4 with 4.3 million sold, and Halo ODST outsold that in a month.

Foliage5227d ago

You see Jason 360, you as the biggest 360 fanboy on the website believe that's a good thing for your "cause", but it just displays the lack of quality exclusives on your favourite system. Everyone flocked to Halo: ODLC because there weren't any good games months before it or after it. The PS3 on the other hand has 15 quality exclusives for every single 360 exclusive. Of course the sales will be spread out.

And did you read the source at all? God of War 3 was near ME2 is pre-orders, and GOW3 is not close to coming out yet, while ME2 is about to be released. GOW3 still has 2 months of pre-orders ahead of it, pathetic little bot. PS3 has 3 of the top 4 pre-ordered games.. Not to mention how ME2 isn't even an exclusive title... once again, the 360 has no games.

Go cry yourself to sleep little Jason, sleep on your side near the edge of your bed, so you don't drown in your tears.

Justin_bristoe5227d ago (Edited 5227d ago )

gow3=march 700,000 10 DAYS BEFORE THIS HITS,IT WILL BE ALMOST 2 MILL PRE ORDERED.

ME2=10 DAYS 750,000 IF U LOOK CLOSE GOW ALREADY OUTSOLD ME2 LOL

SUPER SILLY RABBIT FAIL.

Karooo5227d ago

pathetic bots ignore install base in america, PS3 owners buy more games with a less install base.

Dev8 ing5226d ago

Jason it hasn't even sold that many copies to date.

Mass Effect 2 is going to be huuuuuge!

bioshock12215227d ago

Yeah it is considering its January I wasn't expecting much from this game. But wow it looks like it will hold its own. Also wow at Halo reach it already has over 20,000 pre orders and its not even coming out until the end of the year.

bmw695227d ago

I think it goes without saying that Halo Reach will be doing two million units in week one or something crazy like that!

Foxgod5227d ago

Halo 3 sold almost 2 million copy's in one day, i am sure that halo reach will sell more then 2 million copy's in its first week.

KingME5227d ago (Edited 5227d ago )

Did they add any type of multiplayer element to ME2? Or does it fall along the same lines as ME1?

I know back in April they weren't ruling it out, but I haven't heard anything since.

Noctis Aftermath5226d ago (Edited 5226d ago )

I don't know how he got the number 750,000, it's currently at 390,000 so it would have to almost DOUBLE to get those numbers, i'm a huge fan of mass effect even though i have not played it (watched a full playthrough though) but i think he exaggerated the numbers and it will realistically do 600k-650k first week and it will have strong legs, also i would like to see the PC numbers as i'm sure alot of PC gamers are interested in the game.

Its kind of sad how MAG will have a better opening week than the original Uncharted, Ratchet, Demon Souls...only because its an FPS! A generic one at that.

God of War 3 is looking like it will be a big game, Sony needs to start hyping up the game though. Its my most anticipated game.

Mass Effect 2 is looking to do much better than the first, and it deserves it! It will be a great game. Of course, the absurd amount of marketing EA is putting behind the game helps (seriously I cant watch any video on the internet with-out seeing ME2!).

White Knight and Heavy Rain arent looking that well, but I think its something we expected.

GT5 and Modnation are impressive being on this list despite having no date set though.

Edit: Wow, just saw Red Dead Redemption...really disappointing guys! That game looks phenomenal! The PS3 version is even listed, and the 360 version is doing pretty bad, too.

bmw695227d ago

Heavy Rain still has time to pick up more pre-orders, I'd say if it did 150k in week one it would be a success!

MisterPickles25227d ago

Man, I hope Heavy Rain does well. It looks jaw-dropping.

ikkeweer5227d ago

Except for White Knight I want all of them, including MAG.
And I don't even own R&C:ACIT nor Demon Souls (not out in Europe yet).
Thats about 8 games, plus an xbox (which I don't have yet) for the first three months. Add Darksiders and Bayonetta to that, ehm yeah, I go speachless and my wallet brakes up with me.

iceman065226d ago

was NEVER going to impress in terms of pre-orders. People are fairly skeptical about exactly what kind of game they are getting. I expect it to pick up sales traction once the reviews start to pour in. I am not surprised that MAG has higher pre-order numbers than Uncharted for two reasons. One, Uncharted was a new IP coming out at a time when the install base of PS3 was lower. Two, there was a protracted beta for MAG. So, basically people were able to get a FULL understanding of whether they liked it or not (as opposed to the Uncharted demo, which was just a taste).

Microsoft once tried to nab LittleBigPlanet from Sony after a few drinks

Microsoft had a good idea but fumbled it again.

Cacabunga22h ago(Edited 22h ago)

Project Spark idea was decent but they quickly gave up ..
LBP was wonderful

ApocalypseShadow1d 17h ago

Microsoft in a nutshell. Always tried to poach Sony employees, games, 3rd party games and devices like the depth camera that was turned into Kinect but was running on PS2 before Xbox 360. Wouldn't be surprised they wanted LBP. Just like they worked behind the scenes pushing the MLB to bring Sony's baseball game to Xbox instead of making their own.
https://www.playstationlife...

They didn't spend years trying to develop their own baseball game. They wanted Sony's game.

They're scum.

Zachmo18221h ago

Microsoft didn't force MLB on Xbox. MLB gave Sony 2 options either go multiplat or risk losing the license.

Rynxie11h ago

And why do you think MLB said that? I believe Ms approached MLB.

ApocalypseShadow10h ago(Edited 10h ago)

Totally ridiculous comment.

The only exclusivity Sony had was to their own creation of The Show. Microsoft could have paid the MLB for the license just like Sony did and made their own baseball game.

Microsoft instead, groomed MLB for years in trying to poach Sony's game and bring it to Xbox. They're worth 3 TRILLION dollars. You think that's not enough money to make their own baseball game? Don't be delusional.

Microsoft spun it like they always do and told the media that they had to trust Sony with their hardware. After they put Sony in that position of not having a choice. Either go multiplatform or stop making one of their successful games. That's a no win scenario.

And what did Microsoft do? They didn't try to sell the game to the Xbox community. They put it on game pass to hurt Sony. Pushing the idea of why buy games that are $70 when you can play them in their cheap service for $10. It was a dirty tactic.

You fell for the Kool aid drink Microsoft served you instead of spitting it out. Hope it tasted good because you were fooled by Phil and the gang.

Xbox executive Sara Bond has told Axios that Microsoft spent a number of years trying to get MLB The Show onto Xbox consoles. And when it finally succeeded in breaking off PlayStation’s long-held exclusivity, the company had to “trust” Sony with pre-release Xbox Series X/S consoles.

Bond revealed that MLB The Show “always came up” in conversations between Microsoft and the Major League Baseball organization. “We always said, ‘We love this game. It would be a huge opportunity to bring it to Xbox.'” she recalled. However, when Microsoft’s efforts materialized, it put the company in an awkward situation where it had to send in pre-release consoles to a rival company.

They were too cheap/inept/lazy to develop their own mlb game, so they port begged for years and bribed the mlb to make the show multiplatform. Like i said many times, xbox brought nothing to the table their 24 years, ZERO.

"However, Healey said Media Molecule wouldn't have felt right doing that, adding it would have been "morally corrupt"."

Major kudos to Media Molecule for being an upright studio with principles.

RNTody1d ago (Edited 1d ago )

Great, more stories like this please. Show the last of the zombies holding the line what we've been saying for years: Microsoft is anti competition, anti industry and has no interest in making games at all.

But hey, at least there's an Xbox Games Showcase to look forward to, right?

Inverno23h ago

Well considering SONY just killed the series, LBP would've been dead by now either way. Though MM probably wouldn't exist by now either, so I'm glad they stayed with SONY, hopefully they don't get shut down any time soon or ever honestly.

Inverno21h ago

They shut down the servers, that's millions of user created levels gone. That and dead are pretty much the same, it's also been years since 3 and they cancelled HUB soooo.

6h ago
fsfsxii7h ago

They shutdown the servers because no one was playing, no one in the community cared about the user created levels so why keep them up? Wtf you guys would never succeed in running a business.

Inverno6h ago

Yea dood no one was playing so they shut off the servers. Cause people with enough common sense can't just Google why they were actually shut of, right?
