RUMOR: Friend Codes being ditched on Wii

Gonintendo writes:
"In the latest Nintendo Voice Chat Podcast from IGN, there's a bit of discussion about friend codes. We hear a bit of a rumor that friend codes on the Wii might actually disappear sometime in the future, with Nintendo opting for just the system code as a means of online protection."

monster hunter is already doing it and its all i need really but if they vanish for good then A OK with me

-Alpha5232d ago

they defended friend codes in the past because they said they were protecting their consumers (kids) from the evil world of online.

Now they seem not to care for the children.

Nintendo is a big pile of laziness.

Actually, not laziness--- but they are severely unmotivated to compete because they are so above and beyond the competition in terms of where it matters most: money.

MS was and still is screwed with RRoD. Sony has trouble profiting from their console. Nintendo not only outsells both Sony and MS but they do so with no real hiccups... except for stock shortages.

With that said, online play is something Nintendo needs to sharpen up. Ditching the friend codes is an excellent start.

I hope they keep it up with adding more improvements... even though Nintendo's console doesn't seem to support games that support online too much with the exception of Super Smash.

Rumor5232d ago

yes!!

even tho i dnt play it anymore....

"I hope they keep it up with adding more improvements... even though Nintendo's console doesn't seem to support games that support online too much with the exception of Super Smash."

COD Reflex, just about every other FPS, boom blox can dl new levels, Mario Kart, TvC...

Feral Gamer5232d ago

Quit flip-flopping. First you say "Now they seem not to care for the children" then follow it with "Ditching the friend codes is an excellent start." Make up your mind. Are you upset with Nintendo? You call them lazy and unmotivated but then you basically say keep up the good work.

Venatus-Deus5232d ago

What Alpha is saying is that Nintendo defended them and they flip flopped, a move which is in total contradiction to their original defense.

He is quite right in questioning their motives, while agreeing in their new direction.

execution175232d ago

then i'll actually start doing some online gaming on the wii

asdr3wsfas5232d ago

"He is quite right in questioning their motives, while agreeing in their new direction."

The japanese are stubborn as all get out. My uncle worked there for years. Their motives are opaque to you unless you actually understand their culture.

He once forgot a form to get a bank account. He said he'd mail it the next day. After 3 people refused (but thought about it for 10 minutes) he decided to see how far he could go, I think he ended up talking to 7 people. He's pure italian, the ultimate cultural conflict.

hatchimatchi5232d ago

yea cause the japanese/italian rivalry goes so far back...

What you said makes no sense whatsoever. I live in asia. You have no idea what you're talking about.

Alpha has a good point, there's no need to jump on him for it.

asdr3wsfas5232d ago (Edited 5232d ago )

"yea cause the japanese/italian rivalry goes so far back..."

Italians argue for fun.

Feynmann talks about the japanese being stubborn in his book as well.

My uncle lived there and managed a plant for years. He could easily be mistaken but that anecdote was how he explained it to us. Do you live in japan or another part of asia?

NateNater5231d ago

Agreed! Friend codes are Ninteno's worst idea EVER! I've had my Wii for over a year now and I still don't bother to see what my friend code is.

Finally. Friend codes was the biggest joke ever.

Godmars2905232d ago

You'd think they'd have one with a Wiimote.

asdr3wsfas5232d ago

Every thread needs pedobear.

hatchimatchi5232d ago

seriously you guys?

4chan, bleh.

Drei455232d ago

Well it's about time dunno how it's going to work but hopefully it's true though.Really though how is it going to work one big friend code for all,a Nintendo online account I really don't but let's hope TvC support this new thing regardless if it's a rumor.

Plus how the hell was friendcodes safer Nintendo cause you know the kiddies would just go on their computerz and look for friends on wii friend code websites and I'm sure the Internet has more pedos than the Wii.

lagoonalight5232d ago

Nintendo, friend codes. MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Zelda Replay: Majora's Mask

VGChartz's Evan Norris: "Is Ocarina of Time as legendary as I remembered it? For the most part, yes. In spite of a handful of missteps — a few obtuse puzzles, some tedious backtracking, and a clunky stealth sequence — I don't believe the last 23 years have been unkind to it. Ocarina remains a brilliant example of the medium, a landmark game that shaped the future of its own franchise and 3D gaming in general. After more than two decades it retains its inventive dungeon design, challenging puzzles, dynamic combat, wistful storyline, unforgettable music, and empowering open-air freedom. I feel confident calling it one of the greatest games of the fifth generation, even if I'm no longer prepared to list it among the five best games ever made."

Pure unadulterated fun. They don't make them like this anymore...especially not the triple A industry.

FinalFantasyFanatic11d ago

Back when video rental was a thing, I rented out Majoria's Mask, I never finished it though. I did buy the 3DS version before the eshop shutdown, so maybe one day I'll finally play through the whole thing, it's amazing how well these games hold up though. I briefly played Ocarina of Time for a while and it was really fun.

6 Fun Games Where You Actually Play As The Bad Guy

While the mainstream media always sees things turning in favor of the hero, here are 6 games that own being a bad guy.

Profchaos15d ago

Pretty much all of these games listed are based around a morality system you don't have to be bad and you don't have to be good.

It seems to have left out some real amazing games like red dead redemption 1/2,ass effect and true crime la/ny

Tacoboto15d ago

Armored Core VI?

Ok, I'm really missing something here. Just beat chapter 3 earlier this evening, unlocked A-rank Arena fights. I'm not seeing or sensing any branching paths or morality system and I've done every side mission and arena fight available to me up to that fight.

Is something big coming soon to branch the story?

banger8815d ago

No mention of Grand Theft Auto? Saints Row (original trilogy), Manhunt? Also The Suffering (depending on the ending you get).

ChasterMies15d ago

Trevor in GTA 6 is a sadist and psychopath who dabbles in cannibalism. Should be top of the list. These game “news” sites should hire people that know games.

Strange headline, as I thought the star of the show was Super RType. I almost bought RType Dimensions EX this last month and was just thinking, man I wish we had the SNES one somewhere on Switch. That's where I got my start w the series and I was beyond excited to see it drop this week!
