Modern Warfare 2 is approaching Halo 3 sales numbers on Xbox360

VGArabia: There is a couple of multiplatform games such as GTA 4 and the first Modern Warfare that if you combine each game sales separately on all platforms, you can have games that outperforms Halo 3 (10.70 million) numbers. But there is one fact people may not know about: There isn't a single HD game on just one platform that has had managed to sell more copies than Halo 3, though that could change in the near future.

I hope I don't get murdered for saying this but i genuinely don't think that it deserves those sales...

I for one am fed up with fps' and Modern Warfare 2 is just another one, with a lot of hype behind it and a massive fanbase.
I hate it when I see each Call of Duty game every year selling millions when I can think of plenty more games that deserve more sales.

Call of Duty and Halo sell so well because everyone knows about them and they have a massive fanbase. It takes either a long time to gain your fanbase or a huge marketing campaign; or both.

A lot of casual gamers wouldn't even know what Killzone 2 or Uncharted 2 are but they will all know what Halo and Call of Duty are. This is how these games sell so well. Everyone knows they exist.

That's why I'm saying that they don't deserve these sales, as there are better games that a lot of people simply don't know about.

Everybody knows that the XBOX360 has the most informed gamers gamers all around. Thats why the excellent FIFA10 destroyed in sales the crappy PES2010.

Decent games that appeal to the masses will always sell better than quality niche games. It's a shame that so many good games end up like this, but that's the way the world turns. Works the same way with movies or any form of entertainment for that matter.

It's just product recognition guys, Halo IS Xbox so of course it's sales will always be high just like Mario for Nintendo or Sonic (was) for sega.

Modern Warfare has the same type of following so people recognize the name and get excited about its release with no need for reviews to sway their decision (not that it received low/bad reviews). The same is true for Final Fantasy, Gran Turismo, Metal Gear Solid and a few more I can't remember. Titles you'd want to receive these sales first need to impress the crowds and create a large following before they'll ever achieve such high sales numbers. The Gears of war series did it because of it having acquaintances with the Unreal tournament series and the "Sad World" commercial had a huge impact as well (Great advertising).

Whatever game/s you think deserves such high numbers need to impress the masses first.

Halo 3..8.1 million in 4 months when the 360 had 11 million total.

MW2..8 million+..with 360 having an install base of 39 Million total.

HALO REACH..drops in September w/ the Xbox have it's largest installation in the history of the Xbox.

Halo 3 has a rabid fan base that still has over a million playing it online everyday.

HALO REACH is guaranteed to have the largest launch of 2010 w/ 1000s of fans purchasing the game during midight openings.

Moden warfare 2 is a Beast..but HALO REACH is the Xbox 360s Blockbuster!

That's just sad. There are so many great games even on the 360 that deserve far better sales then the overhyped MW2.

I mean, it's a decent game, but it was way overhyped and over rated. I really wish gamers weren't so blind, but the causal market does have the most control. sad, but true. In fact, I prefer Halo 3 far more than MW2.

The only reason Halo does so well is because Microsoft spends so much money on its marketing, and because it now has a massive fanbase.
Any game could kill Halo if it had a huge fanbase and a massive marketing campaign.

Nothing needs to be "killed" That's just for hype purposes and holds no truth. Games can coexist without having to "kill" each other in sales. Even if MW2 outsells Halo 3, Halo 3 will STILL be better (imo). Doesn't change anything.

Yes, I think GTAIV and MW also sold more than PS3 exclusives. Still, that doesn't change the fact that PS3 exclusives are much higher rated. That is the ultimate example of why Sales =/= quality.

I admit that PS3's 2009 software lineup was pure quality and give props to Sony's standards as well as Developers. The reason I ask about exclusives is because strangely people are not buying near as many for PS3. I'm pretty sure it has to do with hype and marketing which doesn't matter because games like UC2 and MGS4 have sold plenty.

Just like Halo, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has it's fans. (And haters) I myself do not own MW2, but did love COD4.

Halo: Combat Evolved and Halo 2 (Pretty much the MP...NOT THE ARBITER angle) were both great games, but we have all seen sequels make big bucks off of past success. Gears 2, Resistance 2, Ratchet & Clank CIT, and the GTA experiences don't really deliver the same fun as their predecessors. (In My Opinion) Sure MW2 will sale, just Halo: ODST sold over 4 million copies...but let's throw the fanboy stuff out the window. ODST wasn't great, but fans love the previous Halo's and Bungie/MS knew that people would once again..eat this stuff up. (And...people did!) MW2 wanted Halo money, so a lot of that game plays and feel like Halo, with the intentions on making mega bucks. All Killzone needed to do is "Sell Out", with extreme jumping, "Quick Twitch" aiming and firing, and controls/physics like Halo/COD. Instead, G. Games delivered something that was FPS with some new gameplay aspects...which would appeal to Hard Core gamers. (Something that I loved about the game, is the semi-realilizm, graphics, teamwork, and A.I.) You have to be a good FPS gamer to play games like these and PC games. Not hating on MW or Halo, but those games don't require a player to have real talent...just camp, throw grenades, hide for kill streaks, and unlock upgrade that give you an advantage.
