G4TV: Sony Shows Off Super Stardust HD In 3D

G4TV writes: "Sometime next year, PlayStation 3 will receive a firmware update to display 3D movies and video games. Avatar: The Game is one of the first 3D-enabled games to arrive at retail, but it won't be the last and it's possible that publishers could release patches to add 3D to already released games.

Like, for example, Super Stardust HD.

Sony briefly showed a clip of Super Stardust HD, the popular PlayStation Network downloadable twin-stick shooter, in 3D during their CES 2010 press conference. It appeared to be on the CES show floor, too, which means we should have a chance to check it out this week, too."

Comet Crash is underrated. It's one of my favorite games. I just wish there was random map making so it doesnt become repetitive that i've mastered what to do to beat a level.

but my oh my does 3d gaming sound like a pretty concept. if Sony market this properly and make a few decent games to show off how it could work in 3D then i see them selling consoles like hot cakes.

sshd and wipeout hd in 3d. why have they picked the most insane games to show in hd. i need them to do a calmer game in 3d cos this has got been sick when i play them written all over it.

Sony's 3D TV's launch this summer... so the 3D update for the PS3 will likely be this summer as well.

This is the fourth game they have shown in 3D. I hope we get to play some of these soon. If GT5 came out in 3D that would be epic.

I have the single-player add-on and the endless mode is the most enjoyable mode in the game. I recommend it.

Ya endless is definitly a new experience all together. I'd say the single player expansion is worth it, though I never did get the multiplayer one.

if you play the game without someone else all the time then getting the multiplayer expansion is good because I believe it adds separate ship customization and split screen. The split screen is very important cause now you won't get confused on who you are and you have to stay together all the time

I like the game, but very little lasting appeal.

It's like Geometry Wars...

...for people who get bored of Geometry Wars.

Not a huge fan of this genre, really. However, SSHD is my favorite in the genre.

This is one of my favorite games on PS3..Now is the PS3 3D ready?? Or will we have to wait for an update. @Obama yes it worth getting, but that's if you like the game. Also to be completely honest I'm not a big fan of this 3D BS.

Have to wait on the firmware update for the PS3 first... and then the game itself would have to be patched as well. Although, there has been some talk of tv's that will 'upscale' 2D images into 3d as well... But just like scaling of SD images to HD... I would not expect it to look as nice as material that is made for 3D.

My fellow Sony gamers, while the 360 console has its own exclusive "3 something something" that made sure UPS employees have a job, the PS3 will finally get its own "3 something something"...which stands for true "3 dimensional experience.

MS's got Natal, which with its 30fps transition limitation will probably make it worthless for old and new main-line 360 titles. Meanwhile not only does Sony have its own more precise motion controller but they're able to introduce 3D gaming though a update.

How hard is it to imagine a 3D motion controlled game?
