GB writes: "Zombie gorefest Dead Rising was the sole reason I bought an Xbox 360 all those years ago but I'm sad to say I'm feeling completely underwhelmed about the sequel. I was a big fan of George Romero's classic 1978 Dawn of the Dead movie so the idea of adopting the role of a survivor holed up in a shopping mall and fending off the zombie horde appealed somewhat. Now, a few years on, I can't help but feel that where the undead are concerned, the whole concept is suffering from overkill right now."

Nothing. It's up to the gamers to stop consuming content from companies that they don't agree with.

I am not sure, Dead Rising was an OK game, so I see no reason why this one should be a big one.
When I got my Xbox Dead Rising was probably the title I was most hyped about playing, but it ended up REALLY letting me down. What was up with that save system? And why is Frank always half hunched over? He looks like he needs to take a huge dump. The whole thing just reeked of suck, imo.
If they can fix the numerous glaring flaws with the original then I see no reason not to be excited for the new one. After all, zombies are just about the coolest thing ever, but I just don't know if they can pull it off.
"and instead players take the role of the intriguingly named Chuck Greene, a biker type, who thankfully won’t be needing to stop every few minutes to take pictures to achieve experience points."
I believe most people enjoyed the camera.
I did. But it was mostly an optional thing too so it didn't get in the way of the game for people who wanted old fashioned zombie killing.
Other than that the author of this article has some good ideas at the end. It's about time we get a zombie game where we can barricade ourselves from the undead. Other games that feature that aren't as good as they should be.
As a huge classic Romero and general old zombie flick fan Dead rising was the game that made me buy a 360 too (along with the stage demo of Assassin's creed but we'll forget about that for now, if not forever).
I enjoyed Dead rising but I really don't think Capcom are the right people to be making these kinds of games. Capcom make good fun flashy colourful games like Street fighter and whatnot. I was excited when I learned that they had handed the sequel over to Western developers but from videos I've seen the squel looks just as cartoony as Capcom esque as the first.
I'm still desperate for a good zombie game that perfectly captures the feel of the classic Romero movies. It really annoys me that zombies are already becoming overused but we still haven't seen a single game that got the classic zombie formula just right. Left 4 dead captured the feel okay but as we know wasn't really a zombie game in the classic sense.
An open world GTA meets Fallout style zombie game in a huge city overrun with the shambling dead would be the perfect thing for me. No monsters or wacky special powers or anything though. Just a game about making your way through a city infested with zombies, trying to find small groups of survivors and attempting to survive would be perfect. If they captured that classic Romero feel that is.
