Game On! Podcast reports that the sequel to 3 Cards to Midnight, 3 Cards to Dead Time, is now available for purchase.
The game is from the developers of the Tex Murphy series - a point-and-click adventure game series featuring full-motion-video.
3 Cards to Dead Time features eight new chapters and a brand new graphic engine. It can be purchased at www.bigfinishgames.com.
Paul Frew of Game On Podcast speaks with Big Finish Games founders Chris Jones and Aaron Connors on their latest projects 3 Cards to Midnight and 3 Cards to Dead Time as well as their future plans for the Tex Murphy series.
Paul Frew of Game On writes "Some time ago we did a review for the PC title 3 Cards to Midnight – it was the game that reunited Chris Jones and Aaron Connors of the Tex Murphy series and was the debut of their new studio Big Finish Games. It was solid – for $20 you got a great story with solid gameplay that featured word association puzzles. 3 Cards to Dead Time is the sequel and not a lot has changed – for $20 you get a great story and some more word association puzzles."
All in all, while 3 Cards to Dead Time is another good entry in this new series, it lacks the polish of the first title when it comes to both art direction and gameplay integration. It goes without saying that if you didn't like the casual feel of 3 Cards to Midnight, you won't find anything here to appease your tastes, but even fans of the first game may be slightly put off by the sometimes menial nature of the puzzles and the poor integration of story and game mechanics.
Nevertheless, fans of casual games will find an intriguing little title that will test their grey cells more than their keen eyes, all the while entertaining them with a captivating horror romp where every choice matters, and this is a thing that almost no other adventure of today – traditional, casual, or anything in between – can say.
