Boomtown Review: Elven Legacy: Ranger, Elven Legacy: Siege

Boomtown writes: "Ranger and Siege add 35 missions, five heroes, new artefacts, spells and armies. While this sounds like a lot the vast majority of the expansions remain completely unchanged. Both games feel like the developer has done a copy and paste job. This means that if you only flirted with the original you will find very little to sink your teeth into. Also, if you were looking for a continuation of the original story then you might be disappointed to learn that Ranger and Siege depart from this. Ranger focuses on a human ranger named Cornelius while Siege, set several months after Ranger, follows the invasion of the human lands by Saggitel and his elves. Both stories don't really draw you in as it is very clichéd and plays out like a very low budget Lord of the Rings."

GDN: Elven Legacy: Siege Review

GDN writes: "I recently reviewed the first of the three Elven Legacy expansions, Ranger, and this month and I have been playing the second to be released in the series, Siege. One of the first things to capture my eye about this game, even since the very first Elven Legacy was the level of difficulty and getting through the different stages of the game. In each scenario you are confronted with what can seem unachievable goals. but if you are of a tactical mind, or you just like doing things for a second, third or fourth time until you get it right, then this leaves nothing short of what you expect from the masterminds at 1c company & Paradox Interactive."

Hooked Gamers: Elven Legacy: Siege Review

Hooked Gamers writes: "Elven Legacy: Siege is the second expansion to, you guessed, Elven Legacy. The Turn-Based Strategy title by Paradox Interactive may not have won everyone over but did provide ample play time to fans of the genre. As I am one such fan, I was eager to sink my teeth into this expansion and see how the gameplay had evolved since the original game that was released back in April. Chewing away at Siege, however, I found surprisingly little that one could add the label 'evolved' to."

Gamepex: Elven Legacy: Ranger Review

There are essentially two ways of approaching the difficulty level presented in a strategy game. Either one alters the difficulty, or one alters the strategy used in approaching the difficulty of the game. In Elven Legacy, a player needed not necessarily alter his approach to the game, but rather simply set the difficulty to "easy" at the beginning of each mission. In the game's first expansion pack Elven Legacy: Ranger the same does not hold true.
