Microsoft: 'Pac-Man: CE is Worth 800 Points'

Aaron Greenberg, group product manager for Xbox 360 and Xbox Live has spoken out amid complaints from some users, explaining why Pac-Man: Championship Edition costs 800 Microsoft Points, unlike most 'retro' titles which are half the price.

Speaking on Gamescore blog's Lunchtime Conversation, Greenberg said that, although some Xbox 360 owners are unhappy with the price point, he felt the game was worth the cash: "Namco came to us with what they thought the content price should be and I do not disagree with it costing 800 points. There's actually a lot of work from a lot of people to bring it all together."

I purchased this fine puppy last week and my goodness if it isn't killer. No way is this anything like the retro original. This is a sweet title! Unfortunatly I only have 3 of the acheviments unlocked but that's saying something too.
You have the map and they only give you some pelets and the big ones to eat. Once you clear a side of them a fruit comes up on the other side which once you eat give you more pelets. Simple consept but works great. The more points you get the more ghosts you eat the faster it goes!
The background 'breaths' as it were with a rainbow of colors that pulsates (if you have epilepsy expect an episode) and the are multiple setting all of which have a count-down for your goal.

It's a great game and I believe it's worth the going rate.

When are they going to stop with this painful retro sh!t? Games like Pac-Man are too retro - not funny anymore. To me it's just a sign of lazyness and corporate greed. Why not make a petition where people can vote which retro games they would like to see on live instead?

Why not release some classic PC games instead? Some point n click games would be awesome(and yes, I know the mapping could be a problem but I'm sure they could sort it out). A selection of famous Amiga games would be just as nice.

@calderra - So the gameplay has changed? More than cosmetic changes? If so it sounds cool =) I totally dig the idea of remakes, like Prince of Persia. *edit* - Forget me asking, I might as well try out the trial demo and see for myself ;)

The point is this is NOT retro Pac-Man- it's much more like Geometry Wars Evolved. With a bit of extra padding, either of these titles could almost warrant their own $20 bargain-bin diac.

If you don't like it, don't buy it. And it's not just new levels, it's a whole new look, feel, and play. For example- the dot patterns change every time you eat a fruit now, pretty much solving the issue where you could use "patterns" to beat the old Pac-Man.

It's definately worth 800 points- it's Pac-Man, but lots better. If Pac-Man is 400 points, this title is 800. Seems fair enough.

You know, there's already the lure of potentially greener pastures (although I hear the food supply is real limited over there, with like only 1 or 2 staples). It is not a forgone conclusion that I won't jump that fence.

it is a rip off, prince of persia costs the same and that is of a far higher quality than this game.

how can you charge 800 mp for pacman and expect people to buy it. i own a 360 and i think that ps3 & wii have the best classic arcade games. most of the 360 arcade games are crap.

then don't buy. The Wii does have a lot of classics; but PS3 does not. Most of the game in the XBL arcade are not retro and most are not crap. Pac Man CE is nor original stuff; MS and Namco can charge whatever they like. And if people want it or like it then they can buy at that price or wait for the price to come down.
