Cool i guess, As long as they don't suck and as long as i still have the option to use Japanese voices with English text.

Noctis Aftermath5250d ago

Waste of time, there's some parts in the game where people are speaking in english and your character is like "WTF are they saying", now it will be so stupid because they will all be speaking the same language...

zeeshan5250d ago

Can't wait. This game seems great! It's huge in Japan and it's a PS3 exclusive.

gaffyh5250d ago

I'm glad, but also hope that they still keep the Japanese audio as an option. Just sounds better when it's in the original voice.

gintoki7775250d ago

i definitely want the option to have subs and original language

Rhythmattic5250d ago

I too want the option to have subs and original language..

I personally dont care for the english voiceovers, Also , isnt this just going to delay the release of the game?

PlainOldGamer5250d ago

I don't really mind if it has English just as long as it still has the Japanese dub. especially since when the game was first announced for America they said it would be Japanese with English subtitles. oh well even if it is in English it's still a day-1 purchase for me :D

bakasora5250d ago

The first thing i say when i see the title: "FCUK!"

Yi-Long5250d ago

... then Sega just made yet ANOTHER big marketing mistake.

I won't buy a game (or movie) that doesn't at least give me the option to play the game with the original voices. I'm not interested AT ALL in a game that ONLY has an english dub, when the original soundtrack is removed.

So I really hope Sega won't be that foolish, and will just offer us the choice.

mfwahwah5249d ago

@1.9

Just curious:

You call it a "big marketing mistake."

Can you back that up with some info? Like, how many people won't buy the game in this situation, but otherwise would. I'd really love to know.

ThanatosDMC5249d ago (Edited 5249d ago )

Too many things will be lost in translation especially in dubs. I hope whoever subs the game will be anal with the meaning and the jokes. Funimation for example are lazy #$%^&$#.

Viper75249d ago

Hopefully the game will still have the original voice acting as well. Otherwise its less likely that i will buy the game. Its just idiotic to remove the original voice acting.

I have no problems with subtitles as I have watching movies and playing games with them for my whole life. But I don't want the japs in my games/movies to talk English it just doesn't feel right.

Many fans might not buy the game if they don't get the option to play the game with the original voice acting just to punish publisher for stupid decisions. They might also persuade other fans to do this as well.

Hopefully this is not the result of SCEA which has been rumored to force these retarded unneeded dubs to retail games.

Wow, really surprised. Yakuza 1 did have some talent though, with Madsen and Dushku."

Godmars2905250d ago

First all the crap with Agarest War that makes it worthless as a download title, now after all the online begging pleading and general "WTF!" Sega's going to do what said they wouldn't. Will probably make it English only.

This console generation is f*cked up.

gauntletpython5250d ago

How is this related to Argarest War 0_o

Besides, I don't think Sega ever categorically denied English voice acting, they just said the game would feature Japanese VA/English subs.

Kamikaze1355250d ago

It was confirmed on the PSblog that it will contain Japanese voice overs as well as English subtitles. Here's a link: http://blog.us.playstation....

Godmars2905250d ago

Its a case of a company bringing a title to the Western market, then sabotaging themselves.

Just like Western Yakuza fans have been asking for three since they thought it was the one set in Edo-period Japan - another game we didn't get - when we finally get it its with Sega's main complaint of added expense w/VA work. Which will given more of an excuse not to repeat this "mistake" with Yakuza 4.

Meanwhile you've got another company with Argarest War which was JP and PS3 only physical media which at one time was going to be download only for Western PSN only to be delayed as its turned into physical media for the 360 while remaining digital, over-sized, for the US PS3. There is a PS3 disc version in the EU.

In short Argarest War is an import mess that self-defeats the original reason it was being offered as download only, namely to make and offer it cheaply for the very small market of JRPG fans who will buy it. Much like the Yakuza fans who aren't going to be enough to justify the English VA work. Who might not even buy it if English is the only option.

Kamikaze1355250d ago

Agarest War did get a physical release in Japan for the 360 with extra content. The version the US is getting on the PS3 and 360, is the Japanese 360 version with the added content. The reason for the delay was to include the extra content on the PS3 version.

Godmars2905250d ago

It was ported to the JP 360 about a year after it was on the PS3. The US PS3 DL release was held back to coincide with the 360 disc release, which means that both will be the same price.

Neither version is likely to sell well, but the 360 version, being physical media, is going to be harder to find vs just going to PSN for it.

And waiting the day or two its going to take to DL...

mastiffchild5249d ago

@godmars-?"tiring and frustrating" sums me up accurately as a western fan of the series as a whole to be fair! They didn't advertise or stock the first Yakuza (not where I live anyway)or the second and both took an age to get to the UK as well! It's almost as if Sega have some secret reason to want the west to give up on wanting the game and after every botched release they moan about the 40,000 of us that mamnaged to find a copy!

Seriously, I couldn't believe that we waited this long for Y3. Why didn't they just do another run of the Japanese discs, sell them as imports and give each country a download for the subtitles-even if we had to pay a little fee for it? It would negate all localisation costs, get the game to us all while we're interested , save stocking issues and allow them spare cash to actually plug the title wouldn't it? not to take advantage of region free for the game seems a silly move to me and this would've been a cheap way to see if the franchise had a decent chance of growing beyond it's forced cult status out here would it not?

But, here they are procrastinating, giving it a release on Kratos shoulders and spending cash on something noone cared about which prolly means there won't, again, be any ads for it or much stock when it does arrive./ Well done Sega! You shot Yakuza in ythe chest again-just don't blame us when it sells nothing this time. Onviously us long sufferinhg fans will be getting it but outside of us will anyone even know it exists ion the US/EU/UK/Aus regions? It's seriously messed up.

Good news, I'm dying for a next gen beat'em up, replaying The Bouncer right now...

JustCallMeMarcus5250d ago

This kinda stuff drives me nuts. All Sega has to do is slap in some subtitles, spend some marketing dollars, and let it go - It'll make it's money back.

Now they are talking spending up to $700K just for voice actors, which could put them in the red for this, and then we won't see Yakuza 4 :\

GF365: "For a story to be compelling and engaging, a great villain is mandatory in most cases – be it a novel, movie, or video game. Of course, there’s a multitude of wonderful, brilliantly written villains in video games. Do keep in mind that this is our opinion. So, here’s our list of the best villains in video games, ranked in no particular order. We’re limiting our list to games since 2005."

I already own all these digital+physical. So good to see more people will get to enjoy them.

Wonder why Fist of North Star isnt being added

italiangamer661d ago

Because it's not a Yakuza game, simple as that.

CrimsonWing69661d ago

Yep, licensing fees and whatnot.

RpgSama661d ago

So excited about the next Yakuza Like a Dragon I enjoyed that game much more than I thought K would have, went and got the platinum and everything.

IMissJimRyan661d ago

Yeah. I played them on GamePass, but it's good to others play those games.

Mobis-New-Nest661d ago

I'm still wondering why Horizon Forbidden West Delux Edition hasn't been added yet. Still hopeful it might get added in September 2022. Come Sony, do the smart business move and add all your first party games Day 1 on PlayStation Plus Premium.

mkis007661d ago (Edited 661d ago )

How is that smart? you just admitted to want to spend $18 for one month whenever a game comes out rather than $70 per game? Their sales are perfectly fine so low sales isn't a valid reason. Relying on subscription numbers is a losing game. You can't guarantee enough people will sub. 20 million subs doesn't beat 10 million copies sold at $30. (my average of the cost of a game over 3 years) For one game you make 300 million vs for the sub plan at 20 million paying 10 dollars a month (200 million) you have to pay out to all those developers before you can even count your money.

No chance it comes to plus plus this year. It will come when sales die down.

SeTTriP661d ago

This is a dumb idea for a franchise thats almost certain to hit 10mil lifetime.they would lose 10's if not a hundred million dollars.

Two years from now when the horizons, ghost and gow's do come to the service xbox might be in trouble.they have nothing to compete with this line even years down the line.

Its called strategy.

SeTTriP661d ago

I just brought judgement the game is great don't know how I missed it so now I'm planning on buying all the yakuza games so this is great for me.

It's early days but this new service is looking better and better. The full Yakuza series! And with the monthly games this month too. Fantastic month

Muigi661d ago

Never played any of them, good excuse now to try these out.

SegaSaturn669661d ago

That was the only Yakuza game I was missing. Might be the best month of all time for me.

I just could not get into like a dragon I love Yakuza series but when they went with turn based combat it just was not for me. I hope future entries go back to its original roots or at least every now and then have a game where is real Time brawler combat

We do have judgement so at least there are other similar games being made by same developers

Yi-Long1012d ago

I liked most of the Yakuza games I’ve played, and I (mostly) did enjoy the new direction they took with ‘Like a Dragon’ and its new fighting system. It was a welcome change of pace. Its JRPG turn-based fighting system wasn’t perfect, but it was a good first attempt on which they can expand and build. Didn’t like the damage-sponge boss-fights though, which felt more like a chore instead of tactically taking out your opponent.

Deathdeliverer1013d ago

I’m sorry but no way is like a dragon better than Yakuza 0, 4,5, or 6. It’s different with a lighter hearted tone a lot of times. Plenty of slapstick and jokes. It literally feels like a DLC compared to the main Yakuza games. Unless you simply don’t like action games maybe… but going through the underground arenas, fighting the mini bosses randomly on the streets on different games for money or exp (like the guy in the gold suit for example). Not to mention the mini games, which Like a dragon has some too, but not as good as most other Yakuzas. Maybe it’s because I’ve been playing Yakuza from the beginning. It’s like the metal gear rpg/card collector that was on PSP or Vita. It was a cool game and a lot of fun, but it wasn’t a METAL GEAR. It was fun for what it was. I don’t believe this person actually played through all the Yakuzas. Probably gamepassed like a dragon and dabbled in the others to get an idea.

neutralgamer19921013d ago

Yakuza 4 is such an underrated game and zero is what made the series have legit string foot outside of Japan

Like a dragon in my opinion isn't on the same category quality wise. It's story and characters aren't as interesting

isarai1012d ago

Same, been there since the first on PS2, but you're gonna get a lot of disagrees. Many people defending Yakuza 7 weren't fans of the previous games, or only dabbled, and they seem to outweigh diehard fans like you and me. So it's pretty much like trying to shout over a crowd. This is what the Yakuza series is from now on, Judgement is our compromise, but it seems even that is in the air lately given some behind the scenes conflict apparently.

Darkwatchman1012d ago

I literally started with 0 in and Kiwami in 2017, then played Kiwami 2 when it dropped. And had 6 sitting and waiting on my shelf until after the collection of 3-5 dropped. Then I ran through 3-6 in one massive continuous marathon. I’m sorry that i think Like a Dragon is one of the best ones and that having the same combat for 8000 games got repetitive and it was a breath of fresh air to get an actual change?

I welcome franchises taking risks and like a dragon was a massive risk that paid off. Like the article states, it fits the Yakuza brand of humor extremely well with regard to enemy types and their attacks/skills. Also, it’s incredibly reductive to call this a “DLC”. How can it just be a DLC when it’s an entirely different genre as opposed to more of the same. If you want to make the “it’s just a DLC” argument, that would apply more to Judgment, which is just more of the traditional Yakuza gameplay.

You maybe just don’t like turn-based gameplay, which is fine. I like all kinds of games. I’m sorry that my view of game genres isn’t so narrow?

Sayai jin1013d ago

There are a few I haven't played so I am replaying and playing through them now on GP.

MadLad1013d ago

Same.
Gamepass really let me get into the series.

Sayai jin1012d ago

Same here. I started some of the games in the series when we lived in Japan, but was super busy so I never finished. When I saw the series land on GP., I started from thr first and working my way through them.

CDbiggen1012d ago

I did like Like a Dragon, it kept the feel of the games, but I got bored of the combat about halfway in. It was the easiest RPG I've ever played.
If I remember correctly - Eri, lower defence move for all. Ichiban - Mega bat. Every fight over in seconds.

andy851012d ago

True Final Millennium Tower for the Platinun was certainly tricky

Imalwaysright1012d ago

I'm currently playing Yakuza 0 and so far it's the best game I played this year.

Urrakia341012d ago

I started it about a month ago and was immediately impressed by the cutscenes, characters, and the story got me hooked quite literally from the beginning. Been playing it on and off lately but definitely one of the best games I've played in a while. It's one of those that make me feel dumb for not jumping into the series sooner, pleasantly surprised.
