I have already said that Halo Reach will be a great game. Now I will parse that by saying it is the only true 360 exclusive that the 360 has on the horizon as many of the other titles certain people are waving around (Splinter Cell, Mass Effect 2) also appear on the PC. That doesn't mean they will not be good also, it simply means they are not 360 exclusives. I am also not convinced we will make it to the end of 2010 without seeing some sign of those titles on the PS3.

But Heavy Rain will have the most ridiculous arrows and slings flung at it. No Co-op, No Multiplayer, whatever. Just pick something that other games get a pass for and prepare to see those items employed as indictments against Heavy Rain. After all no Co-op was used to attack Killzone 2, which was another title which saw negativity based in fear and jealousy.

EDIT: @sikbeta, get ready and keep your powder dry because it will come as surely as death and taxes.

How could an FPS fail or heavily criticized? especially a shooter with the Halo name? Halo games even if their utter crap will never fail or negatively criticized due to the amount of blind followers and hype they have (and yes blind followers can also be 'professional reviewers').

Putting two out of this world different games (one tried and tested and one new and unknown)in the same context is something I cannot help you with since I doubt you wanted to make a valid point other than unintentionally placing yourself in the aforementioned group of people who would like to see H.R. fail.

Why would anyone want to see a game fail is beyond me. But the truth is that there are a lot of people out there that do.

When Farenheit was released, I got it for PC and PS2, and recently bought another copy for PS2. Wanted to play it again before Heavy Rain released, truly a great game.

When Ninja Blade was released it got SMASHED by the haters and reviewers alike because it used QTE. If this game was a multi-plat you wouldn't hear a peep about it.

In fact, if this were a 360 exclusive I know for a fact the hate on this site for this title would be overwhelming.

The truth about this game is that one year ago every PS3 fan on the net had it at the top of their lists. This was until it was unveiled before E3 and the underwhelming showing tapered off the anticipation.

Since then it's been all nudity scenes that are shown to up the controversy level and promote the game. At the end of the day 'Indigo Prophecy' was a blast and Heavy Rain may easily top that expectation. But if the hype overshadows the final results this title may be in for a uphill battle.

I never said that Halo Reach would offer a new experience like Heavy Rain. Who's to say that this "new experience from Heavy Rain will be any good. Not every new experience is great or great for everybody.

If Halo fans love Halo and want more Halo because the gameplay has always been top notch, how does that make them blind? Surely the millions that have bought and enjoyed the Halo games can't be wrong about what they like. Surely the hundreds of thousands that play online daily can't be wrong about the gameplay. The blind followers are those that hate on a game because it's not on their console of choice. Most will hate on a game without having played it. I am curious though, which Halo game was utter crap?

Don't need your help. It's crystal clear to me. I know the games are entirely different. I for one would like to see Heavy Rain succeed. I'll be supporting it myself. My point is the hate each will receive comes from the same place mentioned and portrayed by morganfail, fear and jealousy. Who's talking about the E3 trailer? I said BEFORE E3 the game was revealed. They world premiered footage and an interview with the developer. They set up and played the garage scene. The level of anticipation completely shifted for the game.

Is Heavy Rain anticipated? Yes

But it you 'dude' who needs to 'speak for yourself' when you say that Heavy Rain is the second most anticipated title behing Mass Effect 2.
In fact you would have to be on Heavy Drugs to believe that Heavy Rain is even close to the anticipation level of God of War 3 or Gran Turismo 5 for the PS3.

Actually, Ninja Blade was a pretty good action game. I liked it more than Ninja Gaiden to tell you the truth. Ninja Gaiden has good mechanics but it lacks in almost everything else. Ninja Blade had character and atmosphere and the gameplay was more diverse. Even the plot made more sense than the plot in Ninja Gaiden 1 and 2.

I don't know, I just feel that it got hated on unfairly. It wasn't great, but it was good. Made by the same studio that made Demon's Souls by the way.

I feel like im the N4G historian. Ninja Blade was and let me repeat that... WAS COMPLETELY F`ing Hyped by 360's. "Zomg epic scale" and all this other nonsense.

LMAO..you must be the historian of an alternate universe. 'Ninja Blade' had an overall hype level of - 1.0. There were barely any articles on the game. Hell, I even thought the initial trailers looked great. But, then came a 'hate' article before the reviews even dropped about the game's heavy use of QTE and that's when the bashing and bandwagon hate began to gain steam.

Then reviewers ripped it to shreds for being a terrible game...

Actually XPlay gave it 4 out of 5 and GamePro gave it a perfect score saying

'Ninja Blade is a game full of awesome moments. It's not incredibly deep and it won't redefine the genre but it's a kick-ass title that will please action junkies looking for an adrenaline kick'

But, with certain harsh reviews from 'certain' reviewers for it's use of QTE it'll be interesting to see if Heavy Rain gets a complete pass.

In fact 1up's review was interstingly harsh giving the game a C- (but it translated to a 42(?) on metacritic.

My favorite quote in the review is:

Over 25 years ago, back in the days of Dragon's Lair, the original QTE game, it was a worthwhile innovation, but it was still a shallow mechanic that shared more in common with simple reflex games like "Simon," than actual "proper" video game controls. To be featured so prominently in Ninja Blade smacks of lazy game design. Have developers faltered to the point where simply pressing a pre-set sequence of buttons during a boss battle is considered better than a more elegant, strategic showdown?

It'll definately be interesting to see how it all shakes out this year. But, judging from past recent history..the game will get overwhelming praise and underwhelming sales from PS3 owners. So in my opinion I hope the controversy for the game widens..because maybe it will give the title the exposure 'Indigo Prophecy' wholeheartedly deserved.

Fan boys have selective memories. Evil remembers all the hate that Xbox got and Grey remembers all the hate the PS3 got. My memory is selective too though, and only having a PS3, I'm in Grey Wulf's camp, so I'm not going to pretend that I can speak definitively on this matter, but it does appear to me that over the course of it's life time, PS3 and its exclusives have been the subject of much more negative scrutiny by the media than the Xbox 360.

That statement has nothing to do with the comments left here on N4G. I only recently began commenting and reading comments on this site so I can't give you a history like my friends above me claim to be able to do. Really, I don't think the comments section here matters much, as most of the people who post on it already have their minds made. All I can say is that every article on IGN, 1UP, Gamepro, Gamespot, Destructoid, Gametrailers, G4, Eurogamer... basically you name it, that I've ever read about the Xbox itself or a major Xbox exclusive speaks of it glowingly (Even RROD articles would talk about how great MS customer service is and how easy it is to get it fixed), whereas the PS3 and it's games just don't get hyped up by any of the major sites. You can't say any of it's games are over hyped, because they're just not hyped, at least not by anyone other than hardcore PS3 fans and Sony itself (FYI, HHG is not a real journalist and should be filed under PS3 fan, not as member of the press). All the rest of the gaming media talks about Sony games as if they're suspicious and think they're probably not going to be what was promised (and they are not entirely to blame for that, but it's not like MS should be viewed with any less suspicion, and I'm not just talking about Xbox here). Even now with GOW3, GT5 and this game, there's a contingent of fans who rave about it, but take this article for example, it's technically a positive evaluation of the game, but it's title, though meant to be a pun, can be construed as very negative. I mean, have you seen the images of GOW3, have you played the demo!?!?!?! They're amazing!! But one multplat game comes out that performs a little better on Xbox (Bayonetta, which is indeed great) and the next day headline on all the major sites is "GOW is Dead." The demo comes out for another multiplat game, which doesn't even come close to GOW, but suddenly Dante's Inferno, a completely new and untested IP, is giving GOW a run for its money as far as the media is concerned. Seriously? And then, god for bid, if either one of those games sells more units (which wouldn't be hard given that they're on two different consoles as opposed to one), they'll be declared the indisputable victors.

Ninja Blade was not considered a major exclusive, and so reviewers spoke brutally honestly about how they regarded the game, but before it came out, I only ever remember it receiving positive press. People hardly even remember that game, and I find it hard to believe that very many PS3 fans really did talk crap, because I find it hard to believe that they cared. Somebody mentioned a 1UP review, uh... 1UP loves the Xbox, and seriously hates on PS3 all the time. The game wasn't hyped much at all, and no one ever talks about it except for one person trying really hard to come up with an example of the one time an Xbox exclusive got a bad review. If Ninja blade is the best you can do to demonstrate how the Xbox has been the subject of constant hate and persecution, then you're really desperate. Truth is though, I don't see a lot of Xbox hate even on this site, period. Most PS3 fans like Halo, Gears and Mass Effect and I think we can all agree that Alan Wake looks like it will be awesome.

The only time anyone really talks crap about Halo is when they are just frustrated that this whole generation has been over saturated with FPS and TPS games. In that case, I think they are a bit justified, because there really are too many FPS and TPS games, it's a bad trend that the industry has gotten into, and it's a trend that only started because of the unprecedented success of the Halo series. But in my recent recollection, there are really only two Xbox games that got talked down about upon, ODST and L4D2. What everyone say, and what I have said too, is not that they were bad, but that they were overpriced for content that could have just been added in a few DLC packages or been included in the game in the first place. This represents another bad trend that the industry may be gradually slipping into. Anyone who is an OG (Original Gamer) knows what I'm talking about here. Some of the trends set by Valve, IW and Bungie seem to be leading to developers trimming content and development time in order to capitalize on fan bases whom they know will purchase whatever they put out, how ever marginal the difference between the "new" content and what they've already purchased. This is a real concern for all gamers on both consoles, but every time I try to say that on this site, everyone accuses me of hating the games and the system they're on, which isn't true.

On topic: as far as I'm concerned, I've been wanting heavy rain since I saw that first tech demo before the PS3 was even out yet. My interest has never wained, and I couldn't be happier with the way it has progressed.

To like a game is fine but to think of it as the be all end all of gaming is wrong (saying its game play its top notch is a bit of a stretch and strictly opinion based, ask Killzone and Modern warfare supporters ;p), its called blind fanboyism (if theres such a word :p). This goes for any game or console for that matter. Now how many Halo guys would you allocate in the aforementioned group? You dont have to answer just something for you to think about but keep in mind hype and hype alone does wonders on a persons ability to un-biasly criticize!

I never said a halo game was crap (even though Halo 3 was a backtrack on an otherwise great series) I was talking in the case of 'if and when' a halo game WILL be crap(if this makes sense :p), people will still hale it as the second coming as in any halo release.

BTW I am on my 2 360 now... I have 2 ps3's one in my room and one in the living room. Never owned a Wii, probably never will. Had to watch the halo 3 ending on you tube due to the delight-full disk scratching habit of my first 360..

Glad you dont need my help as I said I cant help you :). No I am not blind I do see the hate but not only on the Halo series but in all fronts. This is something that will be here well after you and me are long gone. In a way this hate has merged withing the structure of this site and it is what makes people come back for more. I dont like it you might not like it I dont know, but its not going to change any time soon.

The truth is and a don't give a rats ass if anybody believes me I've stopped being a fanboy a long time ago. I've learned that neither MS nor Sony would come an pat me on the back for supporting them! If I want to play a game I can I have both consoles and a gaming pc thats surely contributing in global warming :P

PS: Do you remember when the ps3 had no games and the 360 had them in shi+loads? (2007) Remember the hate on ps3 owners? Now (2008 until today)why do you think ps3 supporters are more lets say... 'vocal'? Dont you thing its their turn now?

Ugh, yes, of course. Let's pretend Halo Reach, Fable III, Alan Wake, Crackdown 2 and no doubt more are on the way for the 360. I had enough of the Wii and Nintendo by the middle of 2008 and traded it in towards a PS3, haven't looked back since. I wonder if there will be an option to censor. I would kind of like to play this game but there is NO way on earth I would play a game with full frontal nudity. I have so many little nieces, nephews, family, etc. over so much I would be totally ashamed if something like that popped up while I was playing. Second of all if you actually READ the article in never mentions the 360 or it's fans. Its sad that folks here have always got to try and turn it that way.

That said there is absolutely no reason to rate any video game "AO" unless it's based on porn or explicit torture/rape or the like, which I doubt we will see (or that I'd even wanna see) for a very long time.

The mature rating is sufficient as it is in "R" rated movies, parents just need to quit turning a blind eye to the video game and stop letting it be a baby sitter to their kids.
Bottom line, video games are evolving and mature rated video games are here now, people need to wake up and realize gaming isn't just for the kiddies anymore.

Here's hoping Heavy Rain turns out to be great game, which I think it will.

This article should be about the ridiculous amount of hate 360 internet fanboys will be producing for this game up to and for a while after release(even though Indigo Prophecy was awesome). On the other hand the PS3 fanboys are already and will be calling this the equivalent of the second coming of Christ.

I feel like PS3 fanboys are as insane as they are because of the complex the 360 fanboys gave them with their price point crap slinging and other nonesense. My opinion is that you're seriously missing out if you only play on one system, but you can totally skip out on the 360, most of those games are on the PC.

that every major PS3 game's previews are always about why the game will annoy or irritate you in some way.

seriously, look at the pre-release coverage of games like Uncharted, LBP, Killzone 2 (especially that one), Resistance 2, inFAMOUS, etc, etc, and so many of them are about how the game will either "disappoint," "not live up to the hype," "not justify the cost of the PS3," "not be fresh or innovative, therefore not worth the time - by the way, buy Modern Warfare 2, it's AMAZING!!!", etc, etc.

this isn't directed towards this article (although the title could be considered very flamebaity), but it's just a general observation i've seen over the past 3 years concerning pre-release PS3 coverage.

comparing it to the pre-release covering of first party Wii and 360 games, it's quite a contrast.

oh, it's not ALWAYS negative, but a large amount of it is. it's like trying to cool the embers of hype before release of the game.

that's why it always amuses me when the PS3 exclusive meets the hype, and often decimates it (ie, Killzone 2, inFAMOUS, Uncharted 2, etc).

on topic, i can't wait for Heavy Rain, and i'm thinking of replaying through Indigo Prophecy again as a warm up. i already have it pre-ordered (as much as i hate to pre-order, my roommate gave me a gift card for the game store across the street, so i figured i'd just use it on HR and WKC since there was nothing out at the time i wanted to spend it on), and with WKC on February 2nd, and HR on February 16th, it's going to be a great month for me (followed by GoW3 and FFXIII in March).

It's a HUGE risk to put out this title with such small userbase on the PS3. And it's also very risky to entrust a franchise with Playstation 3, the console that has shown time and time again that exclusives don't move units. They fall short regularly. And a niche title on a console with an esoteric audience is a disaster waiting to happen.

And as great as I think that this title is going to be, it's going to sell less than 500,000 copies. And that SUCKS. I'm hoping that with word of mouth and perhaps a "Game of the Year" Nomination or two, it'll move more.

That's true, however if it doesn't sell well, you can kiss a sequel good-bye, or watch as the company closes it's doors due to not enough sales to recoup what was put into developing the game, or expect any kind of DLC to prolong the experience. Sales matter, and if not enough are sold then that would be quite a waste of talent and hard work for this niche title.

The Truth is right. Niche titles have a hard time selling on any console, but are very tough on the PS3 since it`s total user base is divided. Gamers and Movie watchers. Not to mention this game is a rated M for mature game....that right there is going to limit who can purchase this game and who can`t.

I was about to respect your entire comment until I read that last paragraph. You sir, are a f*cking moron. NO SH!T that I played it. How else would I have had come to that conclusion? So when reviewers play a certain game and give it an awful score then are they full of sh!t? No, didn't think so. It's not fair to judge games if you haven't even played through it. The single player campaign was boring and repetitive with a few cool explosions here and there. I didn't suffer too much since it's a laughably short campaign. I was hoping the game would make sense and be worth a $60 purchase but nope, the game just ended out of nowhere. The multiplayer is okay but honestly, I enjoyed WaW much more. MW2 gets boring about 30 min of playing online. Kill streaks are lame, death streaks are lame and the over powered weapons are lame. I've played it, but I don't own it, and don't ever plan on spending a single penny on that game. I had a better time playing the Bad Company 2 BETA over Infinity Ward's so-called complete game.

I've been trying to explain to everyone that the best determining factor on whether or not a game is "quality" is SUSTAINED SALES.
The "Wii Sports Excuse" is always used to try to downplay the importance of a title selling mllions of copies.
Posters try to proclaim that it's not a quality title even though it's the best selling title of this generation.
But the term "Quality" is subjective. And the people that went out and bought a Wii will tell you that it's a "quality title" according to what their expectation is.

Bottom line is that a "Quality Title" has a few attributes:
A high Metacritic Average Score.
A strong opening week in sales.
LONG sales legs due to its acceptance amongst gamers.

And PS3 Supporters have to downplay this fact.
Their console doesn't sell big numbers in the software department.
Hence the chant of "Sales Dont Matter" daily.
Except when PS3 has a good month.
Then, the sales do. It's an old tactic.
Just like "exclusives". Console exclusives don't count.
That is, until we're talking about Final Fantasy XIV and DC Universe.

They are right anyway...sales..especially sustained sales..tell you what real life gamers think about a game. Sure some reviews are fine, so you get a geberal idea ect. But if I bought games only by good reviews, I wouldn't have bought games like Kill Zone, Sniper Elite, Bomberman, 007 Night Fire ect. These games would definatly be flops by your standards but they were some of my favs on the PS2.

This is where I must disagree entirely (respectfully). I'm sure you hear this alot but this means Wii Sport/Wii Fit are the best games ever made, they just destroy games like Halo 3, Uncharted 2, Mass Effect and LittleBigPlanet. And why? I'm a PS360 owner and I actually love Halo..the first Halo I mean. I played the absolute crap out of it. I skipped 2 and 3 but I'll be buying Reach after the big dissappointment of MW2 (need my shooter fix). you see ulti, its all about the story. not shooting and running around. theres got to be a reason you see? and HR has that. the game's objective is to captivate you the gamer to it wholly. play the game, give it a try then maybe your point of view would change.

i dont know if you have seen it, but theres this convenient store situation and your scott shelby, there is a crime going on and its up to you what you wanna do, until theres this point that you hold L1/L2 or L2/L2 to put your arms up. just that scene alone puts you in his shoes to hold that button to keep your hands up. try letting it go and see if he, the robber wont shoot you. then youd care!

Most developers believe that if they just toss in conflict, nudity and profanity into a game that makes the game mature.But with out depth or proper story telling it is pointless. Games are going away from being games and are now becoming flippin movies. Games just aren't what they use to be back in the PS2 days or during the 90's, I mean just look at how short Uncharted 2 was, the games graphics were mind blowing, the physics were mind blowing but the hours of play for me was like 4 days and I hardly ever play on my PS3.

So far the only game I've enjoyed this gen is Burnout Paradise and although I completely hated the open world aspect of the game I kept on coming back to play more because it had that fun factor in the game. A lot of games this gen just don't have that lasting appeal and adding dam trophy support doesn't add replay value to a game.

Oh by the way people I'm not a hard core gamer I'm a casual every now and then gamer which basically makes up most of the fanbase on all three console especially the Wii.

As long as parents don't know anything about anything and continue to be lazy about these things, we will never get the "all games are geared and peddled to children" mentality gone from our heads. It's sad, really.

To them, the ESRB and the ratings just don't exist. To them, the ratings are an excuse to MAKE such things (in TV and games). It's like they want them, then expect everything to be made to be G or E rated.

Get past the reason why we MADE these ratings systems (so parents KNOW and leave the rest of us alone), and then we can go from there.

This article is exactly on the topic that I did for my paper explaining the failure of the ERSB system as not very many parents know about it, and then the attempts of congress to legislate mature video games and put the onus on the retailer if they sell them the game instead of the parent who should be aware of what media the child is consuming. I think in my research I found that just 4 cases in 2008 over $1 million dollars were wasted in legal fees, to cases that were dismissed and went nowhere. The money that is wasted in these stupid attempts to legislate this medium could be used to inform parents on a national level how to properly use the ERSB system, duh.

Plain and simple step for the parent to check on what their kid is playing, watch them playing the game to what is in it, or when you are at the video game store with them and they want you to buy (insert name) game ask the clerk what is in the game and is it suitable for your child.

The system works fine. The games before their release are played by adults who view the content then give the game a rating.

Big letters on the box followed by the contents of the game just like the movies. Parents just need to read and pay attention to what their kids do. Stores need to I.D. when selling M rated games to kids. End of Story.

It's so simple or I guess we need to have a color coded system like the old Terrorist Threat level and Armed guards at every video game display case.

You picked up the game and read the title, you turned it over and looked at the pictures. I'm positive you saw the M on the front and the M on the back because the way they are made you can't miss them.

Judging by the other comments a lot of other mature gamers are too. which will really help this game...maybe it doesn't get the sales because of the style it is portrayed in...but there will be a good following to help it thrive.

Game developers should no longer have to worry about the social content of their games because there is a content rating system in place so parents know what their kids are playing and that stores don't sale MATURE games to little 13 year old johnny.

It's not the industry's fault that some PARENTS are STUPID and should not have reproduced in the first place. Big ole M on the bottom left of the box that reads:

17+ RATED M FOR MATURE FOR VIOLENCE, SEX, DRUG ABUSE, LANGUAGE, AND CRUELTY TO ANIMALS.

It's not the Industry's fault because STORES sale to kids without proper I.D. or parents don't bother to pay attention to what their offspring are doing.

The system works fine people just need to stop and read.

^ THIS times 75 billion. I absolutely loved CoD4, so I still love a shooter every now and then but MW2 was a let down compared to the original, the game's a total noob fest now.

That's why I've actually gone back to playing games like LBP/VC and DS, much funner then running around shooting people for hours >_> Games like Heavy Rain, ModNation Racers and Alan Wake will be much welcomed games to my collection.
