Rainbow Six: Vegas was a big hit on the Xbox 360 last year. How has the new PS3 version turned out?

good work ubi. its time for the ps3! better version than the xbox360. things change, and in some time all games will look better on the ps3, only a matter of time. oh and dont come with this "but, they had extra time", because noone knows how long this game was programmed on the ps3.

On the PS3, Vegas exhibits few graphical improvements over the 360 version. Nothing wrong with that, of course -- it still stands out as one of the best-looking shooters around.

To be honest with you, when it comes to comparing the game graphics of two systems, any graphical enhancements is a "trade-off" to whatever that system is lacking.

Like what? They don't mention what makes it look better. Is it the lighting? Sharper textures? From what I've seen it looks worse.

@macauley - This game isn't trying to better Americas image as "War heroes", like Americas Army. Neither is it a tool to make people enlist in the army. At what point did I say that I like terrorists? You assume that because I think the war in Iraq was totally uncalled for and is a waste of human lives?

So you accused me of assuming and yet you also assume that because the exclusive xbox 360 title shares the same title as the PC "Army reruitment" game means it's a pro-war game...oh please look at the mirror first. Using your ambiguous reasoning that a game is pro-war when it is "trying to better America's image" means that other games would also fall into the same category. The Ubi Soft Tom Clancy series (Ghost Recon, Splinter Cell), End War, SOCOM series...and a whole bunch of others...all make the American warriors as "the heroes". And yet for some odd reason, I don't imagine you raving against those games! As far as "hooking" people into the military, are you freakin' naive that they don't at least think about joining the military after playing those games (assuming that AA had never existed at all)? Even Halo falls into that (though a bit more subliminal) "recruitment" category (the Halo series, though sci-fi, espouses some of the proud traits of the United States Marine Corps).
Rainbow Six may be a game about national counter-terrorism, but it is nonetheless no different from international conflicts. WAR IS WAR, regardless whether it is here or abroad. And yes, anybody who played this game and thought about how cool is it to hold automatic weapons may also ponder about joining a para-militaristic organization. And yes, it makes the American warrior as "the heroes".

All wars are the same...there is no "good" or "bad" war. Wars are inevitable, and it has only two options: Either you get your rear end kicked or you kick theirs first. So yes, you commenting (and possibly even enjoying) about the Rainbox Six game is, IMHO, a bit strange.

Oh, BTW, I just recently found out that you're located in Europe. THAT alone explains a whole stinkin' lot.

Only with time they will get better due to how unique the ps3 is yet, I want to judge this game myself.

I agree dude. According to Criterion, they're developing Burnout 5 for the PS3 first because there's no end in sight. The PS2 spanned a huge generation because the graphics got SO MUCH BETTER over time. The same is true for the PS3. There's no telling how good the graphics could get by the end. I never imagined God of War II was possible on the PS2 at launch, or even 3 or 4 years into it...

It's not as if the GoW cover system is original or anything. In my opinion, when I played GoW, the cover system was very very clunky.

I haven't played gears but i have heard people complain about sticking to the walls or something when trying to take cover... so it doesn't sound all impossible for RV6 to have that problem improved upon

its actually true, the cover system in Vegas is a LOT more dinamic and in some parts even more effective than the one found in Gears

and remember this comes from a gamer who bought both games together

I've played both gears and Vegas quite solidly.
I still find I get stuck in Gears jumping from one piece of cover to another and back again over and over.
Both games are great, but vegas definately has a better cover system.

and i've heard from many people with xboxs that over time, they prefer r6v to gears. dunno if its true though

Yes, it's true. That's why it's useless to argue before a game comes out. Oblivion, FNR3, and R6:V are all really good ports... COD3, F.E.A.R., and The Godfather (on all platforms) were TERRIBLE ports...

Play them for yourself...

BTW...a few of the guys on here still think FNR3 looks better on the 360...haha!!!

Face the facts guys, EA actually TRIED when they ported it!!!

According to Sessler, the PS3 will have some games THIS YEAR that probably couldn't happen on the 360. Take The Darkness for example. The PS3 version will be streaming full movies and TV shows on the tv's in the game...because of blu-ray. that and 2K games freakin' ROCKS!!!

the cover system IS better than gears. When they loaded the new update for gears they ruined the cover system. It's frustrating when you're being chased and you run by a wall, car or concrete block and get stuck.
I won't buy this game for ps3 cuz i already have it for 360, but if this does end up being better, i'll be a little upset i picked it up for the 360.

It's good news that the 5 additional maps are included for free. Had to pay for them on the 360 and most people are too tight to buy them! I've had to remove them from the map rotation as on a number of occasions a 14 player lobby has been suddenly reduced to 4 or 5 when one of the new maps is selected.

My only concern about the PS3 version is headset support, it doesn't mention it in the review. Hopefully, it's fully supported and people who play the game will make sure they have a headset.

Anyone seen any mention of face capture? It works well on 360 and I see no reason why it shouldn't be in the PS3 version.
