Game Master UK: Bayonetta is the first truly next generation action game

VGArabia: Bayonetta the highly anticipated action game from Platinum games has been getting some great review scores from the critics. Game Master UK has published another great review for Bayonetta in their Christmas issue by giving the game an impressive score.

If we where to replace that witch with Dante you won't know a difference. It is true. They are exactly the same. Yeah maybe the witch has different moves but come on!! sword and gun fight in the air....same crazy enemies. It's exactly the same thing. This is the next DMC.

What?? Who wouldn't want to play a game where the choreography is top notch!? You won't find dancing like this in GoW or DI.

But I did hear a rumor about GoW3 ending with Kratos, the gods and the titans just doing a dance number to "Holla Back Girl".... we will see

Why are so many people hating on this game? It's almost like they WANT it to fail. The game is awesome! Its LEAGUES beyond Devil May Cry. This is ridiculous, PS3 fanboys have to downplay ANYTHING that poses a threat to GOW3. They mention God of War 3 in EVERY Bayonetta article they comment on LOL.

Anywho, I think Bayonetta is going to be a really good game. I think the gameplay is the factor that landing it all these high scores (that or their sending prostitutes to the reviewers).

I still can't believe that this game is going to have a good story, which is just as important as the gameplay to me. So I'm giving Bayonetta a "B+" unless it proves me wrong.

It has to be because of all the articles saying Bayonetta is going to dethrone GOW. I like Bayonetta's gameplay (button mapping not so much), but GOW is probably the greatest experience in the genre.

I went out and got it and I think it's an awesome game. And it's pretty easy to spot those detractors who haven't played it now.

I dunno about the "first truly next generation action game"... Maybe a bit much, but I can certainly see why the game got it's scores.

I wouldn't say its the first truly next gen action game, but it does seem like they put alot of effort into the game compared to other multiplatform hack n' slash games in terms of how much you can do in it. The game is like Castlevania by the time you get all of her moves, she's just loaded with ways to kill enemies.

I platinumed it :)) It's at least a 30 hour platinum since you have to playthrough it 3 times, and can't unlock the harder difficulty until you beat it on Normal, Hard, and Infinite Climax.

i laugh at the people who say bayonetta is just a DMC clone. Bayonetta is definitely it's own game, of course there are similarities but they are few and far between imo. The game is so incredibly over the top when it comes to action, it really does stand apart from the other hack 'n slash games that are out.

I'm not gonna bother to go into great detail because some people already have their mind made up but if your on the fence, let me say this. The game though is extremely solid and if you like action games you should definitely rent it. I have the import and I love the game. It's an excellent blend of story telling, intense action, humor and jazz influenced music. The characters are extremely likable and i cannot stress enough the humor in this game, it's usually subtle but it's done really well.

@2.5 I played the demo 3x. It was fun on a level of DMC fun but to call it the "first true action game" well just no. Uncharted falls under action as well and it wipes the floor with Bayonetta when it comes to action games.

But that's only on the PS3 and everyone applies different standards to it. For example best graphics at the VGA one contestant was MW2 yet no killzone 2... now I don't want to seem fanboy but Killzone 2 is 10x better looking than mw2.

Ninja Gaiden 2 - FAIL
Devil May Cry 4 - Not bad, but nowhere close to the leap forward DMC3 was. WOW!
Heavenly Sword - Great story, mediocre combat...good game.

After playing the demo, you wouldn't guess this is the next great action game. The Viewtiful Joe demo was the same way. BORING!

However, if you played the Bayonetta demo more than once, you'd know how intricate and freakin' AWESOME the combo system is!

This is THE best action game in the GENRE IMO. You don't need a review score to tell you that. You can't make ur decision on ONE playthrough.
Play it over and over again to get a feel for the game and learn the moves.

The only people who don't like Bayonetta are:

2.People who don't like fast-paced action games
3.People who played the demo and sucked at it.

People may not like Bayonetta on some basis - and indeed i too was of the same belief that the game sucked balls - but the first appearance of just a slasher is comepletly wrong here with this one

This is a DMC clone remove the female and replace with Dante and there you go. The only reason guys are sweating is because the main character is a female. They are hoping they can get a sneak peak. These guys live in their parents basements and could not get a date if they paid for it. The demo was boring. It was out classed by the Inferno Demo. Folks are praying that it is going to be better than the king "GOW". It won't. Smell the coffee. GOW III is going to sell a million copies alone on launch day.

I completely disagree with this title. What about Heavenly Sword or Ninja Gaiden II? They were both clearly next generation action games. Even Devil May Cry IV, though I'm not a Devil May Cry fan so I didn't particularly get into that game (also not particularly interested in Bayonetta because it plays a lot like Devil May Cry, and as I said I never liked Devil May Cry that much, but Bayonetta definitely looks better than DMC so I will try it out some day).

Talk about overhyping a game. Bayonetta will be a good enough game I can tell that from the demo. But there are too many stylistic hold-overs from Devil May Cry to really push this game over the top. People need to stop trying to make this game out to be the second coming. The thing that bothers me the most is that it is hard to actually see Bayonetta because of the camera angle. There is no reason for Bayonetta to be one of the smallest things on the screen relative to everyone else. I have to wonder what Kamiya was thinking with that taunt of hers, it is so goofy looking and does nothing but solidify my opinion that taunt buttons are wastes of time that could be put to better use.

You can tell a game sucks when they have to add Sexy for it to sell. This game has the most shallow combat system ever in a fighting game and retarded story, WORST then Ninja Gaiden's story.

Just check the video to see how this game is just a button mashing casual gamer glory.

PS. I wanted this game to be great. I was support this game due to being directed by Hideki Kamiya, but he crushes all my hope when I played the Demo. Even 2D Games on Snes had better combat system, and the music makes my ears bleed.

I remember reading a long time ago an interview where Kamiya had said that if he was able to do it over again Dante would have been female. Personally I look at Bayonetta as the game he always wanted to make. Also people who think Bayonetta looks ugly, I am not going to say you all are wrong because I think she looks weird too, but keep in mind that Kamiya wanted to give her a witch's hat so it could have been far worse.

i tried the demo for both bayonetta and dante's inferno and i thought inferno was more fun than bayonetta... bayonetta moved more fluid but, dante's inferno offered more visuals, a better story and a kickass weapon...

but, they were both demos... however, i thought dante's inferno offered up more action for my tastes... and it was just presented in a much better way... very engaging...

bayonetta may be a game many will love but, i just don't think it's worth all the hype to be honest... it didn't feel special...

I cant really put my finger on whats wrong with this game, maybe it is that the character is amongst the lamest character ever created or it is that the gameplay is nothing more than chaotic button mashing. In my oppinion Bayonetta has nothing on games as ninja gaiden, devil may cry, castlevania, or god of war. It looks good, but all you have to do is pump the buttons and see the black smudge turn into diffrent stuff. This game is a big dissapointment because of it´s hype, if people would call it for what it is it might have been a deacent game instead of a purely dissapointment.

I don't see too much difference between the demo and DMC. The gameplay was fun, but the cameras were offputting. The dancing was nauseating. Other than that I don't think I would say this is truly 'next gen' over DMC4.
