Was 2009 Really the Year Dominated by the Playstation 3?

The PS3 dominated 2009 for several reasons. For one, it had a large number of AAA games throughout the ENTIRE year, not just at the end. For two, it had AAA games in SEVERAL genres, not just a few. For three, the other two consoles really didn't deliver much.

At the beginning of the year, everyone was talking about Killzone 2 (and sports fans were talking about The Show). In the middle of the year, everyone was talking about inFamous. At the end of the year, everyone is talking about Uncharted 2 and Demon's Souls (while other great games like R&C: Crack in Time are quietly being enjoyed in the background).

Yes, just like PS3 dominated in the games department last year they dominated in both games AND sales (compared to 360) this year and will do so again next year.

That's a strong word. For something to dominate they need to take over software, sales, better multiplatforms, etc.

The PS3 still flexed it muscles and ran over the 360 in terms of first party games, but the 360 still dominated software sales. The PS3 had better hardware sales (if I'm not mistaken) but the 360 is still leading. Don't forget 2009 isn't over. The PS3 still has one trick up its sleeve and that trick is known as Final Fantasy 13... in Japan.

And in terms of multiplatforms, they were pretty even with exclusive Joker content in games like AA.

2009 definitely belonged to the PS3 but it didn't "Dominate" everything, just first party games. And I wouldn't say they "Dominated" hardware sales, but they sure as hell outsold the 360 in most cases.

2010 is going to be a much tighter race with the PS3 going full momentum.

I find that Sony did a hell of a lot better than Microsoft this year. Technically, Nintendo "dominated", but in terms of overall software quality, I'd give it to the Playstation 3, even though I'm surprisingly playing the Wii a lot more lately due to NSMBW.

Also considering the fact that I purchased my MGS4 80GB model in January this year and already have 18 exclusives for it, yes... my vote easily goes to the PS3.

My GotY is probably Demon's Souls, if that says anything.

Killzone 2 was the closest thing to a must have title for me but after playing it...I was sorely disappointed. It was not the graphics/gameplay powerhouse the n4g fanboys would have you believe.

but for what it is - a "gaming machine", the PS3 has done an incredible job in 2009 with the slew of great games throughout 2009! I think it's safe to say that the PS3 has done better than the 360 this year. here's hoping for a greater year next year for all gamers and it's looking very very good too already!

both platforms had 12 games sell 1mil+.

Both consoles had 3 exclusives, ODST sold the most followed by KZ2 & UC2.

Averaged over the 12 games, 360 was an average of 2.5 and the PS3 was 2.1 (put in another post yesterday)

the reason why the 360 average higher was because of the high selling MW2 & ODST.

EDIT: Infernal was another great 360 exclusive

The amount of TOTAL EXCLUSIVES on the ps3 ver 360 this year was just overwhelmingly in favor of the Ps3. The amount of Content Lost (Games or DLC) Was once again overwhelmingly on the PS3s side. God of war collection is not even a proper game it is 40$ for people who havent played the previous games.

They were hyping their games from the moment they were announced.
I asked them recently to show me a post where ANYONE said that Forza 3 would be a blockbuster seller and outsell Gran Turismo 5 and they failed. They make stuff up as they go along.

Unlike PS3, we understand that racing games are niche titles and don't hang our hats on them.
