While 2D platformers are from dead, the average PC gamer isn't exposed to them all that often. Sure, if you have a portable system or a Wii you see them all the time, but on the PC? Shooters, strategy games and MMOs make up the majority of today's offerings. If you want a good, recently released platformer, your going to have to start digging through the Indie scene. Dig far enough and you'll find some games that are just as much fun as anything a big studio can push out. Is Timetrap's Emberwind one of the games? Well, sort of.
Anthony Bate says: "Emberwind was breathed into creation by Swedish indie developer Timetrap, although not originally for the iOS. This title first saw light on the PC back in January 2010. The title received a modicum of success, lauded for its fantastic art style with a good old fashioned retro feel to the game mechanics."
Chris Buffa (Modojo): Emberwind is a 2D side scrolling adventure starring gnome watchman Kindle Elderwood. Armed with his cane of justice, the hero sets off on a dangerous quest to save the city of Grendale from the diabolical CandleFinger and his gremlin army.
Chillingo has announced the arrival of three new games for iOS formats this week: defeat a gremlin threat in the epic adventure game Emberwind, serve up some spicy Mexican cuisine in the time management game Taco Master, and outrun a tumbling snowball in the comical endless running game, Snowball Run. All three titles are available to download from Apple’s App Store now.
