Batman: Arkham Asylum PS3 Sales Pass Xbox 360

IGN says: It took four months, but a major, multi-platform title release has sold more on PlayStation 3 than Xbox 360.

Since its release in August, Batman: Arkham Asylum is now leading on the PlayStation 3 console by over 10,000 units when compared to Xbox 360, according to NPD.

Typically, most multi-platform titles sell considerably more on Xbox 360 due to the console's higher install base, but it seems the exclusive Joker content on the PS3 version, at no additional cost, has swayed consumers this time around.

I think that was proven false. I tried looking for a copy that did but never saw any place that offered it "officially". If it did then it would be a great deal.

I got my copy from toys r us along with lego batman for free and free shipping. I chose the 360 version because of the lego batman. I have two 360's and 1 ps3 and my son really likes the lego games (plays star wars, indy, and now batman) and it was easier to get that and let him play on one 360 while i played AA on another.

A great game none the less. The joker dlc just didnt interest me as it really played no part in the overall story. If anything, I expected there to be levels in the game you play as the joker when it was first announced. After finding out it was just bonus challenges, no interested anymore.

I feel Batman AA is "my" personal nod for game of the year as far as a multiplat game goes.

The title is very popular and it's been selling consistently every month since it's release on the PS3 so i'd say it's doing a good job. In addition all the 360 fans saw MW2 and went out to get it. sooooo.

I imagine that publishers sell the game at a set rate to a game store.

For example lets say Eidos sell Batman AA to EB Games for $30 per game.
EB Games sell it for $60 initially and then make a profit of $30 per game at the start and then later on in the months when they sell the game for $40 they get $10.

I would think it goes something along those lines.

Long answer: Batman:AA is still selling $50+ on Amazon, so I guess Square Enix is making a killing off that game. It's clear that any publisher would like to sell MW2 numbers day one, but they know thats not the way it works, there are very few franchises capable to pull those numbers so long legs is something every publisher wants for their games.

If you want to go in to actual profit remember the USA (360's dominant territory) has the weakest currency of the big 3. Video games in europe and japan are making companies the equivalent of $80-90 per game once converted from euros and yen and as the PS3 dominates those 2 territories they are nullifying the sales lost in the USA.

PS3 has the oldest owners of the next-gen consoles.
Usually, the games that have spanned a few generations or have characters that are decades old, inspires the older gamers to spend their hard earned money.

Examples:
Street Fighter IV
Resident Evil 5
Tekken
Batman - Arkham Asylum
And soon... Final Fantasy XIII (even without Japan).

This is why I've said that this gen AND next gen are wrapped up.
XBOX360 Gamers will convert over to XBOX720.
The same way Playstation 1 owners went to Playstation 2.
Nintendo got too old too and were dead in the water, but motion control with Wii revived them.

Also, games that don't possess wide multiplayer levels with multiple players won't sell as well on XBOX360.
The install base has a lot to do with it too.
If it doesn't take full advantage of XBOX Live, they won't buy it.
XBOX360 is a shooter console first.
And the hardcore gamers GAME on XBOX Live. Sorry.

as good as the PS3 is the truth of the matter is that 90% of the time multiplats are better on 360, in the case of this game I hear the PS3 version is better, I must admit that the multiplats are a big deal to me, I love that the PS3 has great exclusives for when I finally get one but I could never have put up with the original high price with subpar exclusives, but if the trend changes which in fairness it already has to some degree then people will start to buy more, the 360 is very consistent so even though the PS3 has a few exclusives that really shine, it's inconsistency has put some off, but clearly when they do get it right the games sell much better.

(Resistance 2nd strongest title this year, MGS4 1st
Resistance is no doubt going to be huge, but MGS4 is going to be the biggest this year, for exclusive titles anyways. GTA 4 is no doubt the strongest game overall. Gears 2 mite be 3rd, or LBP. I personally think LBP is going to sell much more than Gears 2. Gears 1 didn't even sell that much)

Gears of war 2 5.4 million
LPB 2.7 million sales

If some random analyst wants to use this 'extra content' argument as an argument as to why it sold 10-30K more than how about using Grand Theft Auto 4 which sold 1.3 million more on the 360 (but is also the top selling game on the PS3)

It's a strtch to think that the bonus stuff thrown in with Dante will be the measure that ensure it sells more on the PS3.

Just look at how Dragon:Origins is selling twice as much on the 360 than the PS3.

But the obvious factor is the PS3 controller helps out fighters and the 360 controller and Xbox live helps out shooters and most multi-plats for the 360.
