Gamespot: Rainbow Six Vegas Single-Player Hands-On

Ubisoft's excellent tactical shooter is heading to the PS3 later this month, and Gamespot got a first look at the single-player campaign.

In their review, Gamespot stated:

"From what we saw of the opening levels, the PS3 version of Vegas is pretty much identical to the Xbox 360 version, not just in gameplay but in visuals as well. Then again, Ubisoft wisely has decided not to fix what was clearly not broken. The modified Unreal Engine 3 graphics engine that powers the game looks unchanged, though the frame rate does seem to struggle a bit more during some of the more intensive scenes. On the plus side, the PS3 version seems to have a bit more physics interactions built into it, as we saw more objects react to explosions and gunfire."

As another reason to pick up this title, Gamespot also states:

"While the single-player campaign looks as solid as it did in the Xbox 360 version, the PS3 version will have exclusive multiplayer maps and game modes not seen in the 360 or PC versions of the game--but we'll cover those in our upcoming multiplayer preview. Rainbow Six Vegas will ship for the PS3 later this month."

I think i found my reason to by this game again for my ps3. I loved it on my 360 but for more maps, game modes, and better physics, i'm willing to buy this again. Gamespot says graphics are pretty much the same so that doesn't bother me.

Most Devs still have not got used to using Cell-Rsx.

There should be no slowdown.

Heck with a athlon64, 6800gt i ran this game at 30fps.

With cell-rsx, It should crush this game.

But atleast it seems ubisoft are getting better.

IF that game was built for ps3 from ground up.

You'd be seeing 1080p no problem.

The devs are having trouble working with the cell, and while that is an explanation, that's not an excuse.
The PS3 hardware has been final since a year ago...
Oblivion came out for the 360 a year ago, and the final Xbox 360 hardware had only been available to developers for about 9 months... So, it's a bit unsettling to find out that people are not easily able to get games optimized for the PS3 yet

no one has used cell rsx yet, all graphics have been rendered by rsx alone, with no edge tools, probably the newest games may have used edge tools, but they arent out yet

just look at the Madden vs Allpro .. I see many comments said MADDEN is CLEAR WINNER.. and when see the screens , I said WTH ? are u blind!!or am I ? .. after my comment all ppl said allpro is definitely better.. (Im not saying they saw my comment and then said the same!! ok? )

it shouldnt look the same or nearly as good it should look better.

if ps3 = same game but later i own a ps3 for exclusive games only and ..........there aint much there.

if things aint picking up by the holidays i might sell my ps3 as pc/360 and wii have alot of good games coming out and i could use the money.
(i would buy a second hand one later !)

i hope sony turn it around as ps3 is a great system.

They will need to restructure the textures, and the physics to make this game look better. In all honesty they won't spend millions of dollars hanging the textures on a port.

People seem to have forgotten about all of the crap SOny said about thier system before. Remember the developers that were all saying..the 360 is .5 the power of the ps3. It takes 7 months to get a port out looking the same. It's funny how the market changes. 2 years ago we were being told 360 will be obsolete in 2 years time. 1 year ago we were told wait until the ps3 comes out...the 360 is going to be crushed....Now people are just happy to get an exact port. LOWER THE PRICE OF THIS SYSTEM NOW................

So i guess if the dev doesnt know how to use the cell, or cant make good ports because like other devs have said its easier to port from the PS3 to xbox360 rather than the other way around, so I guess since the ports arent as powerful its Sony's fault and what they said about the system being 5x or whatever how so more powerful, its all a lie now? Why not wait till there arent no ported games to make that judgement, people are so quick to judge. Some people sound like broken records on here. "If the PS3 is as powerful as sony says how come it didnt blow away the competition with its launch games!!!". Well smarty pants its new technology and unless your some type of rocket scientist you wont get it right away, just like a baby wont learn to walk right away as soon as its delivered. Use logic people.

I've been playing R6V on my 360 for a few months now so i won't buy it for the ps3. Just like i won't buy virtua fighter 5 for 360 when it comes out since i've been enjoying in on ps3 for quite some time now.
Speaking of VF5, what if it doesn't look as good or any better on 360?
it will be interesting how 360 fanboys will turn that around.
back on topic, R6V doesn't really have the best graphics anyway, it's all about the gameplay which is extremely solid but the graphics are nothing especial.

Boy, those guys who bought PS3s with the 20GB HDD got suckered into it by SONy. I suggest that buyers beware of those 20 GB PS3s, i saw a large shipment of those consoles at game crazy last weekend...

perhaps you don't know how easy it is to change the hard drive on the ps3? and no, it doesn't void the warranty and it doesn't cost an arm and a leg.

Most games for the PS3 do not install on the hard drive. Only a few of the launch games did as a work aournd. Developers have found other ways to address that issue now then having to install the game on the HDD. Games now just use the HDD for caching purposes and game saves.

I hate this! There should be no reasons for bad frame rate. I wish these developers would learn to use CELL correctly. Look at Insomniac and what they did with Resistence. There's like a billion things moving on the screen at once and nowhere in the game is there ever slow down.
