GameSpot: Aion Review

It's a shame that Aion's early engaging gameplay so quickly devolves into a mind-numbing grind. This is a great-looking game with an interesting premise, and its combat system--while flawed--could certainly teach other MMOGs a thing or two about accessibility. If the zones you spend your time in from levels 10 to 50 were half as well put together as the starter zones, then this would be an easy game to recommend, but that's currently not the case.

Hmmmm. Took them long enough. I have to admit, that score seems a tad bit low...

I think GameSpot stuck it out longer than myself and 3 of my buddies did. I got into the 30's and simply just got BORED. I was so amped for this game it's unreal how disappointed I was to find myself just not wanting to log in. This game is absolutely directed towards a specific crowd of MMO players, which is also not the majority. You'll find yourself without solo quests to do real fast which leads to endless LFG channel spam, grinding territory covered by bots, Abyss being farmed by those who this game was made for and killing lower levels who simply can't compete. You'll very easily take notice how dependent this game is on group work, which quite honestly will not appeal to a lot of folks. I understand the occasional instance/dungeon or a group quest here and there but this game takes it to new heights. I could go on- a 6.5 is generous, I guess I set myself up for disappointment a lot.. Just desperate for that new experience since WoW and so far I'm just continuously let down. Did I mention that the Aion story simply isn't compelling? Warcraft Universe was huge and immersive, all I figured out from Aion was the planet separated and we can all fly.

Oh- and yeah, I use WoW as an example, haven't touched the game in almost 2 years btw. I find other games to hold my attention until another MMO comes along that sweeps me off my feet like WoW did. Direct the fanboy remarks elsewhere because you'd seriously be fooling yourself.

I was going to pick this up but I am glad I didn't waste my time.

the game looked decent, now my only hope for a good MMO is star wars and DC universe
